Anyone not got much of a cough but feels really tight and painful when breathing in?

Just asking out of interest more than anything else.
I'm self isolating anyway because two of the DC are so unwell.

I have had this since Thursday. I have got a cough but not one I'd consider persistent (2-3 coughing episodes a day).

But the chest pain and tightness is not very pleasant.

No fever.

Anyone the same?

(DC 13 had the classic symptoms, so either had flu or corona - they wouldn't test).

I've had the tight chest for a couple of days, seems to be easing slight,y today, so don't worry op

TheSpottedZebra · 16/03/2020 12:06

If any of you have hay fever, itcould be that? The tightish chest with no fever.
Tree pollen is out now, and my hay fever is here with a vengeance.

screamer1 · 16/03/2020 12:07

I have this but think it could be stress

BertiesLanding · 16/03/2020 12:09

Yes, me too. I've been isolating for 7 days, and had symptoms for about 10 days. Also headache, fatigue, fever at the beginning, sore ears.

Jerseygaly · 16/03/2020 12:10

@TwelveIslands how long did it last.
I started difficulty breathing last Tues like a cat sat on you and it has come and gone since. Still don't feel right.
Kids have had
1 sore throat
2 fever runny nose now cough

UpToonGirl · 16/03/2020 12:13

Yes, I have a tightness/heaviness in my chest with a bit of breathlessness but not really bad. No temp. I am coughing a bit but not often, it tends to be more when I take a deep breath or laugh rather than spontaneously. My kids all had proper coughs and temps last week, although I've kept them off again today as they say they still have headaches.

If you could pay for a private test I probably would just so I knew one way or another.

AutumnCrow · 16/03/2020 12:13

NHS 111 don't want to know about shortness of breath unless you've also got a fever or a 'new continuous cough'.

I woke up feeling crap today - tight, heavy chest; headache; sore throat; malaise & aches & fatigue & nausea.

I've had the flu jab this isn't the flu and it isn't a cold.

But no-one wants to know - except to tell me I've to stay away from my GP surgery and cancel long-awaited hospital appointments this week.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 16/03/2020 12:15

No there's no point. They can't do anything to help you. It's viral.

Sorry you're feeling rough.

@Bertieslandings sore ears?

JimmyPanda · 16/03/2020 12:19

I have this too! I wasn't sure if I was just being paranoid. Agree with pp who said it's like when you have a drink and it goes down the wrong hole. No cough at all but woke up with a slightly sore throat the past 2 days, which goes away after a hot drink. More like when you've slept with your mouth open and your throat has gone dry. Very weird!

Littlebookwormiam · 16/03/2020 12:26

I've had this on and off since Friday, no persistent cough and no temperature. I have anxiety so maybe that's what it is?

JimmyPanda · 16/03/2020 12:27

I'm pretty anxious at the minute too so maybe. I usually get really dizzy when I'm anxious though so this is new to me!

Butwhhhyyyyyyy · 16/03/2020 12:30

Me and 1 DC have this since Friday, headache and stuffy/runny nose and tight chest, have both self isolated but are both asthmatics so that doesn't help us.

Homkaismycat · 16/03/2020 12:31

I must say I feel funny too.
Since end of February . I had chills for about 3 days/ no fever.
Sore throat, which would come and go.
Husband had a bad sore throat which moved into chest, he said it felt like he was drowning at night.
Now - 3 weeks later I got chills coming and going..

stayathomegardener · 16/03/2020 12:36

I've had a weird throat that felt like I had to keep swallowing for about 6 weeks.

Last Friday it moved to my chest, heavy and tight.
No coughing or temperature and I don't seem to be passing it on so far. 🤷‍♀️

Genevieva · 16/03/2020 12:36

On the radio today there was an interview with a man who talked about testing for active virus and testing for antibodies the suggest a person has had prior contact with the virus. They are working on the latter and hoping to roll it out soon. They won't be able to test 65 million people, but it will be interesting to see if people who have had these symptoms show signs of having had covid-19. It is hard to know what is an old winter virus, what is seasonal hay fever causing a post-nasal drip and what is covid-19. Now every cough feel suspicious, but a significant proportion of people in China didn't get a cough - they went from a fever straight to pneumonia.

tabulahrasa · 16/03/2020 12:40

I’ve got a sore throat, tight chest, stuffy nose... and I’m having to cough to clear my throat fairly regularly... but it’s not what I’d usually describe as a cough...

I can stay inside today and tomorrow, but I need to decide whether I have a cough or not before work on Wednesday and I genuinely can’t work out whether it’s something I should be properly self isolating for or not...

WrongKindOfFace · 16/03/2020 13:22

I had this on and off since the beginning of the year, before CV was really mentioned, so it could just be a bog standard winter virus.

itsgettingweird · 16/03/2020 13:38

Thespotted I've had the right chest for a few days and have put it down to my hay fever starting. No other symptoms but croaky voice on waking and early evening.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 16/03/2020 15:06

I'm starting to feel a bit shit now.

OP posts:
chasingmytail4 · 16/03/2020 15:52

Yes DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou, I'm feeling like this too. I put it down to anxiety until my husband said he felt the same last night. We both also have sore eyes... it's all a bit odd and I'm staying away from everyone just in case.

chillychicken · 16/03/2020 16:02

Im coughing but not regularly but it’s definitely new. Temp at 37.5. Chest feels heavy and compressed, it feels like my windpipe is burning too. Lungs feel “crackily” and every so often I get like a contraction/stabby type feeling in my mid back region.
I’ve got a slight persistent headache too.

I don’t feel terrible, I can get out of bed, etc but I don’t feel well at all.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 16/03/2020 16:35

Yup that's exactly like me.
Temp creeps up to 37.9 but soon goes down again so no fever for me.

I don't like this evil thing hanging over my head.

Especially as I've witnessed exactly what's to come when I watched DC endure it.

macaronigonzalez · 16/03/2020 16:52

I definitely have this. I started to feel tightness in the top of my chest and a feeling of reduced lung capacity last week but put it down to anxiety (though that is not where I typically feel anxiety). Then on Saturday morning I developed a slight cough and have been self isolating since. The cough is very minor though. It's the tightness/heaviness in the chest/across the back that's the major thing. No fever, I can go hours without coughing and then I'll feel a kind of chest squeezing which will set off a little coughing fit, but the cough is very very minor.

Chest tightness and chest pain is listed as a COVID-19 symptom here.
