Sore throat and high temp. I think I've got it

My ds had the virus with fever, headache, neck and shoulder ache and sore throat 2 weeks ago. Not sure if it was coronavirus but he was over it a week ago today but this morning dd has the same symptoms. Seems more flu like although ds does have a cough now the fever part has passed.

adaline · 16/03/2020 08:49

Self-isolating here 🙋🏻‍♀️

Woke up with a cough, sore throat and blocked nose. Doesn't feel any different to a cold at the moment but best to be safe.

ellanwood · 16/03/2020 08:49

Sore throat home remedy which works better than shop bought ime:
heaped tablespoon of tumeric
cube of ginger, sliced
tablespoon of lemon juice
6 cloves
heaped teaspoon of honey.
Add boiling water and steep for 6 minutes. Stir a lot to mix up the settled turmeric and drink before it settles again. Bit gritty but really calms sore throat.

I might try that sage one too. And feverfew leaf is good for lowering temperatures and headaches.

adaline · 16/03/2020 08:50

Sore throat is not a symptom - it’s prob just a usual cold/flu

Yes, it is. It's not just not a symptom on its own. Combined with a cough or fever then it could certainly be CV.

ChoporNot · 16/03/2020 08:50

Thought it was supposed to be a dry cough? Not a chesty cough?

adaline · 16/03/2020 08:51

The government are saying to isolate with a continuous cough. They haven't specified which type.

OhLook · 16/03/2020 08:56

You have to self isolate with a cough or fever.

WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish · 16/03/2020 08:57

It’s much more likely to be CV than anything else surely?

CV is a new virus doing the rounds with a high infectivity rate and zero immunity in the population. If you have a fever and or continuous cough you almost certainly have it and it will almost certainly be a mild illness for you but in the meantime I wish you better.

We are coming to the end of flu season and colds don’t involve a fever.

There’s a weird undertone of “ooh look at all the attention seekers pretending they have Coronavirus”..... no, they probably do have Coronavirus!

OhLook · 16/03/2020 08:57

Regardless of what you think it might be.

Another123 · 16/03/2020 09:14

Me and DP are self isolating as both have a fever and shortness of breath. It's frustrating not being able to know if it's Covid or not. If immune afterwards we could help others in isolation, but we'll never know.

111999A · 16/03/2020 09:16

You have to self isolate if you have a fever of over 37.8 and/or a persistent, dry cough. I think an awful lot of people have it and the vast majority can self manage at home and many of them are already recovering.

KenDodd · 16/03/2020 09:22

I wish someone would invent cheap home testing kits.

According to the numbers, chances are you don't have it. But how would you know? You might have it? What if you self isolate then get another cough in a few weeks?

The lack of testing is a scandal.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 16/03/2020 09:22

Another - yes, if only there was test to see who had had corona. I'm another who reckons they've had it. I could be quite useful to society if i only knew!

RuffleCrow · 16/03/2020 09:26

I think salt water will help a bit - helps for sore throats generally. Don't think vinegar will do much good though.

KarenTookTheKids · 16/03/2020 09:30

straycats, I am sorry you are so miserable. You are going ti hate me, but I really don't think you should invite an electrician into your home in the middle of this, sorry! Please at least make them aware before they enter. They may be in a high risk group, or a member of their family may be. Your child has started with it just today so still would be infectious, even if you are not anymore.

Have you a working kettle or microwave? You just mention upstairs sockets not working, is your kitchen upstairs? There are local FB groups springing up covid - 19 community support for lots of areas, have you a local one? I am keeping a close eye on my local one and will help anyone I can by dropping stuff at their door. If you have no working kitchen appliances then maybe someone could drop you off a camping stove or something? Or have you spare cash to order one off amazon prime, you could probably sell it after?

adaline · 16/03/2020 09:30

I'm another who reckons they've had it. I could be quite useful to society if i only knew!

There's evidence that you can catch it multiple times, though.

YakkityYakYakYak · 16/03/2020 09:35

There is no way to know really unless you get tested (which is unlikely unless they start offering testing to NHS workers), I think you just have to assume you have it and act accordingly. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm an NHS worker so I might have to self isolate.?

I have to say it concerns me that you have to ask Mumsnet the answer to this! Are the NHS not being very clear with their staff about when to isolate? Are you working around vulnerable people?

Popuppippa · 16/03/2020 09:37

There's evidence that you can catch it multiple times, though.

No, there isn't. This has been said multiple times by actual qualified Doctors.

BizarreBizarre · 16/03/2020 09:40

Yak the NHS are being wooley over it in general but manager says I have to isolate for a week.

OP posts:
Nousernameforme · 16/03/2020 09:42

I woke up with a horrible throat and a temperature spoke to dr they diagnosed tonsillitis over the phone and gave me antibiotics 3 days of them and I'm so much better.

Corona isnt effected by antibiotics so I guess it was an infection. There are so many bugs going round this time of year anyway. Coronoa isnt always the likeliest cause.

If you have a temp or new cough isolate if not dont

TheWalkingTalkingRed · 16/03/2020 09:42

I've got a sore throat, high temperature all day yesterday and accompanying aches and pains. 111 said to self isolate, work were fine to be fair. I think in normal circumstances I would just be cracking on, but we definitely aren't in normal circumstances so I'm being cautious just in case.
Can see me getting through a lot of box sets this week

Didiusfalco · 16/03/2020 09:46

@Popuppippa but wasn’t there a woman in China who tested positive for it, then negative, then positive at a later point suggesting you can get it more than once?

WoollyFoolly · 16/03/2020 09:46

I am self-isolating with a very dry cough and tight feeling chest. It feels like the start of a chest infection, but the cough is totally non-productive. No fever so far.
My DD had a terrible sore throat a week or so ago but no temp and no cough so likely it was just a sore throat. There are going to be a number of things circulating but anyone with a cough or sore throat should be isolating themselves for 7 days, no question.

Popuppippa · 16/03/2020 09:48

@didiusfalco

Virus load can decrease then increase. It doesn't mean someone has caught the same thing twice.

Popuppippa · 16/03/2020 09:49

It could also mean that for that one person the test was faulty.
