UK holiday booked, should I still go?

Have booked a 5 day break in a coastal part of the UK for my family and I (2adults 1 child) due to start on Wednesday. It's a 4 hour drive from home, staying in an Airbnb.

None of us are Immunocompromised, we haven't had any colds or sickness recently either.

Would you go?

I wouldn't go

funmummy48 · 16/03/2020 08:14

Yes I would. I'm away at the moment. Visited a National Trust property yesterday, which was full of visitors. It's good for our mental health to get away from it all.

MajesticWhine · 16/03/2020 08:17

I would go. You are no more at risk there than your normal life at home.

Harakeke · 16/03/2020 08:22

Go!

jogonlll · 16/03/2020 08:48

Yes I am driving, so could easily drive back home again. My husband can't drive so I think I worry about if I get ill and can't drive us all home.

Yep, absolutely go while you can especially if you have your own car.
Be mindful and prepared in case some places are closed.

Hoppinggreen · 16/03/2020 09:15

We have cancelled our Europe holiday at Easter and are thinking about having a break here instead. It would be SC and apart from chilling out and walking the dog on the beach we wouldn’t be doing much else

MrTumblePulledAKnifeOnMe · 16/03/2020 09:56

Watching with interest.

I honestly thought most replies would be a no. We are due to go to a Haven park next week, and I don't know what to do. Reading the replies has given me some hope. I think I will wait until later in the week to make a decision and see how things pan out.

flowery · 16/03/2020 10:06

”We are due to go to a Haven park next week, and I don't know what to do.”

I wouldn’t go there I don’t think. We’re still planning on going on our holiday because it’s to a remote cottage with no interaction needed with anyone else.

funmummy48 · 16/03/2020 10:06

I’d go to Haven but wash my hands lots.

Hoppinggreen · 16/03/2020 10:11

I wouldn’t go to a hotel or holiday park but I will probably go to a cottage

Nquartz · 16/03/2020 10:24

We're probably not going to our Easter caravan holiday even if the park is still open because id want to really deep clean everything & not sure how easy it would be, and wouldn't want to mingle with people too much, easier to keep away if we're at home.

Also would much rather be in isolation in my own home, particularly if it's me who's ill

Emcont · 16/03/2020 10:28

Yes! We are booked to go to a Haven for 3 nights and still plan to go. Just won't go to any of the gatherings and unsure about swimming yet.

Alsohuman · 16/03/2020 10:30

Go, the sea air will do you the world of good. It’s safer than staying at home.

Balkinfly · 16/03/2020 10:31

Nope I would not travel anywhere atm. We are in the grip of a Pandemic, people need to stop moving around.

Blueroses99 · 16/03/2020 10:38

The spread of the virus in Spain and Italy was reportedly due to people in infected areas travelling to second homes.

I wouldn’t personally travel at this time because the situation is ever changing, and very quickly. Looking back at updates to threads started a couple of weeks ago, shall I travel to France etc, advice was generally to go and some of the things that people said wouldn’t happen, has happened.

backaftera2yearbreak · 16/03/2020 10:41

My son left with school for PGL today. Get some fresh air in before any potential action limiting his movements! I’d go while I still could. As long as it was in the uk

Self catering apartment yes I’d go
A holiday park with large gatheringsOr compromised facilities no I wouldn’t go

WitchQueenofDarkness · 16/03/2020 15:03

Yes - just got back last night from a lovely self catering cottage in North Wales.

We just took sensible precautions like handwashing after visiting the supermarkets and use of sanitiser when appropriate. We're not ones for the mass attractions so we saw very few people all week. I feel much more at risk now I'm home

Kjc39 · 17/03/2020 00:14

The PM has said everyone in the UK should avoid "non-essential" travel and contact with others to curb coronavirus - as the country's death toll hit 55. Yet forest holidays response is to bully guests into going or cancelling with no refunds. They see travel to a forest holiday site as essential travel, even though the government is now advising against non essential travel. Is this responsible? So sad

Thymeout · 17/03/2020 00:47

I'm waiting with interest to see if Boris gives up his weekends at Chevening.

Unless you're using public transport to travel, I can't see how it will make any difference to spreading the virus since it's already all over the country. Even earlier on, there were hotspots in unexpected places like Devon and Norfolk, more than in my London suburb.

Feistyfeline77 · 06/06/2020 19:04

I have a holiday opportunity in a self catering apartment for last week in june, do I go?

Ponoka7 · 06/06/2020 19:09

It depends on what you plan to do and will it be worth it with so much being closed.

granadagirl · 06/06/2020 19:16

Are the owners still letting you rent?

Re the if you get ill and not being able to drive home
Have you got AA or RAC ?
They will bring you back home car on a transporter
