To send my kids to school tomorrow?

Anyone think I'm unreasonable to send my kids to school tomorrow?

Curious if anyone is keeping their kids off?

Part of me wants to just keep them home but I also don't like breaking the rules.

And sorry if this has been done to death already!

I’m sending mine in until we are advised not to

belay · 15/03/2020 20:22

Schools open, I'm sending mine. Also carrying on with sport activities unless it's cancelled

Hoik · 15/03/2020 20:22

Mine will be going. There are no confirmed cases in our region and they're better off there than under my feet at home, I'll save that for if/when the schools actually close.

MrsMonkeyBear · 15/03/2020 20:23

I'm sending my 5 year old in tomorrow. I want to keep everything as normal as possible for her. A lot of parents of others in her class are keeping the children off.

The things is we live in a sleepy wee village in the middle of nowhere. Yes, there have been cases in our "region" of scotland but so far no cases in close proximity.

RickOShay · 15/03/2020 20:23

I am. But not sure what to do if there are more cases locally. Tomorrow yes, the rest of the week? Not so sure.

Caplin · 15/03/2020 20:23

Mine are going, and to all after school classes until told otherwise.

ItsAllTheDramaMickIJustLoveIt · 15/03/2020 20:24

While their schools are open and they don’t have any symptoms my kids are going in.

Sexnotgender · 15/03/2020 20:25

I’m not sending my 16 year old. She has serious underlying health conditions.
I’ll be phoning the guidance team tomorrow.

Pollyhops · 15/03/2020 20:26

Mine are going in too.

Zisforstripyoss · 15/03/2020 20:26

Mine are not showing symptoms and until I hear from the school to say not to send them / they develop symptoms, they will be going in.

Andcake · 15/03/2020 20:26

Mine are going. I think we need a bit of normality especially if things are going to get worse.

Ozziewozzie · 15/03/2020 20:27

I think a fair few will be keeping children off as the time goes on. I think you need to make a decision based on your own circumstances, ie the age of your children, your work commitments etc.
I’m keeping my 4 yr old out of nursery because he’s very prone to respiratory things, croop 3 times, pneumonia twice and regularly has a wet cough. He’s had 12 months of it all so I’m trying to protect him. My 17 yr old wants to go to college so will be. None of us have any symptoms luckily......yet

Jowak1 · 15/03/2020 20:28

Mine won't be going - one is showing lots of symptoms and the other just coughing. 7 day isolation for us to be on the safe side.

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 15/03/2020 20:28

Yes. Schools are open so they’ll be going in. They already know about the virus and I want to keep everything as normal as possible for them. How long do you keep them off for? A week? A month? If they end up closing the schools they’ll have been out of education for weeks.

Fatted · 15/03/2020 20:29

Mine are going in until they're sick or school closes.

PixiePowered · 15/03/2020 20:29

I'd think carefully about not sending children in if they are otherwise well and have no underlying issues.
At present it would be an unauthorised absence and, in my authority and others in Scotland, no work would be sent home. They wouldn't be taught period.

If children are advised to self isolate due to health conditions or possible infection it would, in most cases, be an authorised absence and they could receive work.

If schools close work will be set. It will be chaotic enough trying to teach remotely but we definitely won't be preparing stuff for those who are unauthorised.

DrummerGal · 15/03/2020 20:32

Mine are going in.

Bagelsandbrie · 15/03/2020 20:32

Mine are going in. We could have months and months of this.

gingganggooleywotsit · 15/03/2020 20:33

Of course mine are going in. I would only keep them off if they had severe symptoms!

gingganggooleywotsit · 15/03/2020 20:35

As others said this could go on for months so I am putting off panicking for as long as I can!

PinotAndPlaydough · 15/03/2020 20:35

Mine are going in until we are told not to. One of them REALLY doesn’t cope well with change in routine. They are all ready getting very stressed with what is going on and I’m getting endless questions about what we are doing on certain days etc. Slightly dreading what it’s going to be like without a strict daily routine.

MistyMinge2 · 15/03/2020 20:38

As others have said, this could last a while yet. I want to try and keep things normal for them for as long as I'm able to. If they had underlying health conditions then I'd feel differently. Also, my work aren't going to just let me be off if the government haven't shut the schools.

tiredofbeingalone123 · 15/03/2020 20:39

Seems like most people are sending kids into school. I'm lucky my kids don't have any underlying health issues. If they did I wouldn't question keeping them at home

Mine are still going in as fit and well. We have told my mil not to do pick up until it gets under control though.
