Just that really. Govt guidance does not make clear.

Yes!!! If you have a cough OR fever then you must isolate for 7 days after onset. It really is simple and clear

slipperywhensparticus · 15/03/2020 19:51

Yes x

KMoKMo · 15/03/2020 19:53

Yes it does make it clear. If you have a fever or a cough you self isolate for 7 days.
It really is very very simple.

Ffsnosexallowed · 15/03/2020 19:54

It is clear. Yes

bemoreeverything · 15/03/2020 19:59

Govt guidance does not make clear.

It could not be clearer. What part of 'self isolate for 7 days' do you find difficult?

LeeMiller · 15/03/2020 20:00

Yes.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 15/03/2020 20:00

Yes! The guidelines are as clear as day.

Fever or new cough isolate for 7 days.
If you struggle with symptoms call 111! There really isn't any other way to make it more clear!

BeardedMum · 15/03/2020 20:02

Yes and the guidelines are clear!

Lumene · 15/03/2020 20:04

Wow quite surprised by the tone of some of the responses but thanks to those who responded anyway.

I don’t have a temp but want to make sure I have the correct advice and thought it would be good to clarify.

Would be useful for the NHS site I checked to have an FAQ section and cover this I am sure I won’t be the only person in the world to wonder.

I was wondering this. My 3 yo had a high temp on Friday afternoon and sat morning. He's been absolutely fine since and back to his usual self- does he need to be kept off school until next week?

bemoreeverything · 15/03/2020 20:16

Sorry. It's becoming tiresome having to tell people what is written in black and white for them. I don't mean to hold a tone with you personally. There are threads and threads of people who are not able to follow the guidelines, be it because they simply don't care or because they are trying to interpret them there own way. In fact earlier today there was a discussion about what the word 'new' meant. Apologies OP.

Yes. Yes he does.

EastCoastDamsel · 15/03/2020 20:17

Yes

Lumene · 15/03/2020 20:21

Thanks @bemoreeverything

I understand what you are saying.

I do think The written guidance on the point I raised is a bit unclear and could do with updating though.

@Monst3ra glad it’s not just me! Hope he feels better soon.

OP posts:
Monst3ra · 15/03/2020 21:17

Thanks @lumene

He's absolutely fine now but I'll keep him off anyway.

Ortega · 15/03/2020 21:19

Its really clear. Its 7 days. Not 7 days unless they are better before.

Mashedpotatobutty · 15/03/2020 21:19

Yes. Agree the advice is very clear. Any temperature above 37.8 or continuous/persistent cough then self isolate for the full 7 days

Mammyloveswine · 15/03/2020 21:21

Fucks sake yes

nonicknameseemsavailable · 15/03/2020 21:34

I have to say I am not sure how it isn't clear. a temp or a cough stay in your home for 7 days regardless of how you are feeling.

meredithgrey1 · 15/03/2020 21:44

There are threads and threads of people who are not able to follow the guidelines, be it because they simply don't care or because they are trying to interpret them there own way.

To be fair, I think some people are just so used to a culture of going to work/school regardless of illness that it's hard to switch mentality. From the sounds of the OP she now feels fine so some of the "confusion" may be a sort of disbelief that they are supposed to call work and say they can't come in when they feel ok.
I had a fever last night and a cough today, it's pretty mild and something that generally wouldn't keep me off work as I feel fine. Even though I know that self isolating is the right thing to do, and I've already emailed my boss saying so, there was a small part of me that felt like I was bunking off school.

(Obviously also some people aren't capable of following simple instructions.)

Lumene · 15/03/2020 22:00

I have no fever or symptoms and have not had any.

I wanted to make sure I was aware of the correct advice in the seemingly likely event i or someone else equally unclear needed to know.

I have followed this stuff closely and am keen to follow the guidelines and the advice still wasn’t clear to me or at least one other person on the thread so clearly worth clarifying, and would be useful for the govt to spell it out, helping more people to do the right thing.

Posters being rude, swearing etc will not help and if anything will have the opposite effect.

Just an update on my 3yo. Called school this morning to report his absence and was advised he can go back in tomorrow as his temp is normal and he's not showing any symptoms.

I don't feel the guidance is clear cut at all.

bemoreeverything · 16/03/2020 10:41

@Monst3ra

I don't think the guidance is unclear so much as the school have chosen to interpret it to suit.

Flimflamfloogety · 16/03/2020 10:56

The guidelines are pretty clear

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance

Taken from the above link:

*The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

new continuous cough and/or
high temperature*

If you have symptoms of coronavirus infection (COVID-19), however mild, do not leave your home for 7 days from when your symptoms started

Monst3ra · 16/03/2020 11:03

I know the official guidance is clear but if schools and workplaces are each interpreting it in their own way then it's going to lead to confusion. When I called the school to let them know the reason he's off the receptionist asked if he'd back in tomorrow as he's better. I said no as per the offices guidance and the letter we'd received from school on Friday but she called me back having spoken to the headmaster and said he's perfectly fine to go back.
