Have been very thankful for the news that there’s not been a single positive result for Coronavirus in our whole large county.
Until today, when not only has someone got a positive result, they’ve also died.
It’s a town 10 minutes away from me.
How can someone have died when a county of hundreds of thousands doesn’t have a single positive result?
Clearly there’s thousands of people walking around who would test positive if they were tested.
So scary.

OP - yeah it's getting very, very real now. I have to confess, I've been trying to keep calm, but I'm very very worried. I'm panicking, basically. Not that panicking will help.

We have many cases, and 2 deaths in our area. And we have no idea how many have been infected. We are nestled between London & the SE - highest number of cases.

I'm not interested in anyone saying I'm scaremongering. This is real.

FlamedToACrisp · 14/03/2020 23:18

But surely, even if they test someone, an hour later they could be exposed to the virus on the bus home?

FrenchBoule · 14/03/2020 23:49

My neighbours came back from Spain a week ago. She works as a nurse at the hospital. Both of them have visited the elderly neighbour who have serious underlying health conditions.
She was told to report at work if she her temperature is normal. He’s strolling around the village socialising.
I really hope they are not infected because if they are lots of people are going to get it.
Common sense ffs.

No! Nowhere near. Over the border in Wales.

In the coming days and weeks these threads are going to become more common. At the moment it's a "distant" threat, but it's coming. This is why we need to take hand washing, self-isolation and avoiding mass meetings seriously now. It scares the shit out of me but in a couple of weeks or at the most a couple of months this is going to be common place.

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 15/03/2020 00:40

I woke up with a migrane today and didn't have any meds so went to my local chemist. There was a small queue, the assistant was wearing latex gloves and it was all fine. Then a man walked in and both the assistants stood up straight and shouted "we're closed". He came into the store and one of the assistants asked him how his breathing was and told him to go home. I can only assume they had spoken to him before and he was showing symptoms. It's freaked me out.

Stuck Sad

I don't know what it'll take for the UK to do more to isolate everybody, but I'm scared.

Rowgtfc72 · 15/03/2020 05:19

I'm north east lincs. We have no reported cases.
Except people have seen the guys in the hazmat suits.
They must think were daft. I know of people that have it.
Wash your hands, dont panic buy, just be sensible.

Forgone90 · 15/03/2020 05:22

All we can do is take heed that the iceberg theory [many many more cases around than being reported] is true and therefore the death rate is actually much much lower than is showing currently!

blackandwhitespottydog · 15/03/2020 06:17

Sorry had an early night.
Yes I’m North Somerset.

The bath half is going ahead, sadly this is likely to make the numbers rise in that area- I can't believe it hadn't been cancelled. Especially as the hospital charity have pulled out and they have publically stated that they are concerned about the extra pressure on the hospital.

SeaEagleFeather · 15/03/2020 08:18

foregone I'm certain there are huge numbers infected and most recover just fine. I'm in a hotspot with several tested and confirmed cases, one a teacher who was in front of her class for several days before getting sick.

Funnily enough an awful lot of people are off school / work with a dry cough, sore throat and mild or higher temperature now.

Where we are, we're working on the principle that basically everyone has it, or has had it, or will get it in the next 3 weeks.

If I'm right then actually the worst might be over in 6 weeks or so.

The problem is that without testing kits, we simply won't know if it's coming, here or been and gone!

SeaEagleFeather · 15/03/2020 08:23

Also, do we have any sort of accurate death rate? Without an accurate transmission count, how can we have an accurate idea of the percentage for whom it's lethal?

I cant help thinking that maybe flu is as bad.

Babytigerrr · 15/03/2020 08:44

Its actually kinda reassuring to me that loads of people have it / have had it.

A colleague of mine was very ill earlier in the year. All the symptoms of corona though obv we didnt know that at the time.
In hindsight im certain its been around here much longer than a couple of weeks.

If 10s of thousands in the uk have it, that brings the death rate right down. That, to me is reassuring - most people dont need medical help and very very few die.

However, i would like to see further measures. Wfh encouraged wherever possible. All flights grounded in or out (unless its people being repatriated i guess!)

I am not certain about schools closing because the majority of childcare is grandparents. I personally feel thats far riskier.

I do think you should be free to take your kids out of school if you want to. And teachers in the risk catergory (or those who have close contact with someone who is) sent home until safe to protect themselves.
