I am a secondary school teacher and also the prime carer for my very sick mum. I am not concerned about he virus for myself but what if I pass it on to mum. I am in close proximity to 150 kids a day. I am not a prone to melodrama but it a risk i dont think I should have to take. I would really appreciate views (even if you disagree!) thank in advance.

itispersonal

thanks for your reply makes me feel that my worries are more reasonable.
I have not had a day off sick in 27 years, but this is a dilemma. i think comments like those from Doggybiccys are going to be why self isolation wont work. People will be made to feel bad, so go to work when they shouldnt. As a society we need to be kinder and more understanding.

I understand how you feel as am a carer for my fil with COPD, as well as a child with chronic lung disease. However, I am front line police. DH is front line NHS. We are both exposed to many people a day, many of whom are presenting with symptoms. We are going into people's houses on a daily basis, often with no idea what we're walking in to. Most people on my team have caring responsibilities for someone else. The country would descend into anarchy if we just decided not to go to work.

Jen wren on reporting this thread because of the hideous replies you've received.

Nasty.

Op, do what's best for you your family.

It's awful that educational staff have been utterly abandoned..
I believe half way house measures should be in place to keep schools open as holding pens, but nothing more to get through this... Secondary school children don't need baby sitting anyway, most dc from 12 years are OK by themselves for a few hours...

Op our gov stragety is going against world advice, you do what's best for you and don't feel guilty. Flowers

10 storey both you and your dh need access to ppe if your exposed to people everyday but even as police its not quite the same A being in stuffy crowded schools
