How do you think Coronavirus will pan out?

It seems to be getting worse. The country is in pandemonium. Everybody in shops fighting over items and leaving nothing for people who actually need stuff.

What way do you all see this panning our? They say it won’t peak until the summer time? Do you see lots of deaths in the UK? ( I know there have been some already)

Do you see the UK going into lockdown etc?

It will just blow over like everything else. People will feel like idiots when they open their cupboards and see 30 rolls of loo paper and 10 bags of pasta.

Pomegranatemolasses · 14/03/2020 14:30

It won’t just ‘blow over’. Cannot believe the cavalier attitude of the British government. So glad I’m in Ireland where we’re taking this a lot more seriously.

HarrySnotter · 14/03/2020 14:32

It'll get worse before it gets better, then it will get better and we'll all go back to normal.

I have seen lots of empty shelves but no 'fighting' in the aisles. I think schools will close in the next week or so and people will be encouraged to stay home. Best thing to do IMO is to take sensible precautions and not panic. That's of no help to anyone.

HarrySnotter · 14/03/2020 14:33

In addition, I think complacency is also idiotic in the circumstances.

Thescrewinthetuna · 14/03/2020 14:35

It’s going to get really bad before it gets better. And nobody should feel like an idiot for panicking a bit. I’m still shocked by the British government’s frankly negligent attitude to this. What’s happening in Europe will happen here and it’s not even at the worst yet, make no mistake.

tiredanddangerous · 14/03/2020 14:36

It’ll get worse in the next few weeks. Schools will close, people will be told to work from home where possible, large gatherings will be banned. More people will die and we’ll all be using the daily mail as loo paper by Wednesday.

backaftera2yearbreak · 14/03/2020 14:39

April/May: shit times for everyone
June: Things start to calm
July/August: Back to reality

noblegiraffe · 14/03/2020 14:39

It will get worse. There will be more deaths. When the Prime Minister is on national TV saying that we should expect more people to die, that’s not to be dismissed as something that will ‘blow over’.

Movement will become increasingly restricted. Elderly people will be told to stay indoors. Entire families will be expected to isolate if one of them has a cough. We have been told this is coming.

BentNeckLady · 14/03/2020 14:39

We’ve been lulled in to a false sense of the security of life during the last 100 years or so. Human beings are fragile creatures. I guess we just have to realise that we can’t overcome all health issues and It’ll be shit for a while but it’ll pass. Some people will be seriously ill and some people will die. The same as flu, cancer, liver disease etc

Cheekyfuckerslastnerve · 14/03/2020 14:41

It's bloody inconvenient but I think we need to shut down schools etc now. The quicker we do that, the quicker we'll get back to normal. I don't want people dying before their time. I think the economic impact is going to be the biggest issue in the long run however. Not to mention the strain on the NHS.

KahlanRahl · 14/03/2020 14:44

I don't think that people will take the precautions serious enough till some young people die. Although the virus mostly affects the old and vulnerable (who apparantly are not important for too many people, young and strong people aren't totally safe.

Only then people will really try to minimise spread. I hope it won't be too late.

Babyroobs · 14/03/2020 14:46

I personally think schools should close now.

Whenisithometime · 14/03/2020 14:46

I’m in Northern Ireland and the government here isn’t planning on closing schools atm. I think it’s a disgrace. It needs To happen sooner rather than later

By the end?

If the UK government continues on it's current path of undertesting and inaction then I would be shocked to see the final (unecessary) death tally at less than 3 million.

Globally? Some of China's provinces are now completely cv free, they are now providing aid to Italy...we may end up looking to their guidance on any future pandemics.

Europe is in for a rough time. Not as bad as the UK.

backaftera2yearbreak · 14/03/2020 14:49

My sons meant to be going to camp Monday. Just an hour up the road. Praying to every god possible it’s not cancelled 🙈.

Whenisithometime · 14/03/2020 14:51

Ds is meant to be going to Tenerife in April for a week on a college trip. They haven’t cancelled it yet but if it isn’t, I’m not sure he should go

OP posts:
woodencoffeetable · 14/03/2020 14:53

it will not blow over quickly, that's for sure.
until we have a vaccine we will be very vulnerable.

but we will adjust, we have to.

backaftera2yearbreak · 14/03/2020 14:53

Hmmm. If it was abroad I’d have a different view I think. It’s tough though. From a selfish perspective I can’t bare to see my son upset but if a decision is made to cancel he will need to get over it and count it as one of life’s tough lessons!

noblegiraffe · 14/03/2020 14:54

Flights to Tenerife have been cancelled by Jet2 airline. You may not be able to get there!

Whenisithometime · 14/03/2020 14:55

@backaftera2yearbreak too true. Hopefully your son’s trip won’t be cancelled. I know this is so selfish, but I just hope my holiday in July isn’t cancelled!

MacronsPensWiper · 14/03/2020 14:57

Seeing as 111 is already ineffective and we are left with an on line service, a and e will already be full, I think it's going to be ten fold worse than Italy.. It will go down as the biggest negligent cock up our country has ever known.

The measure they have taken are not balanced enough and are too extreme.

backaftera2yearbreak · 14/03/2020 14:58

We have another trip in April which i fully expect to be cancelled as it’s a football tournament. I honestly think April and May will be the worst come June things will start to calm down. It’s going to be bad, we will have to make some medium term changes. But I think come July order will begin to be restored. My holiday is also in July so will see!

MacronsPensWiper · 14/03/2020 14:59

Harry

Our government doesn't want us to stay in. They want us to get it.
To achieve immunity.

I'm not going to be the human fodder for them.

Pluckedpencil · 14/03/2020 14:59

A lot of you are still very much in the denial phase which is understandable because your government are telling porkies. Your holidays in April are gone. Spain is already in lockdown like Italy. It won't blow over. It will get bigger and bigger and bigger until we take it seriously and stop it. Don't listen to the UK govt. Listen to the world health organisation. They are impartial and care about health. Boris isn't and doesn't.

SallyWD · 14/03/2020 15:00

I looked at the online news this morning showing empty supermarket shelves, empty streets, empty cafes etc. The message was everyone's afraid, everyone's staying in, the supermarkets have run out of supplies. Then I went out and took my son to a party at a trampoline park. It was heaving. Hundreds of kids. Then we went for lunch at a pizza place, again it was packed, had to queue to get a seat. Then went to Aldi - yes it was busy but the shelves were fully stocked. Plenty of toilet paper for everyone. No panic. Everyone we saw was getting on with their lives, enjoying themselves. I'm not saying people aren't scared. Of course they are. I realise this is just the very beginning and a lot worse is to come. But I couldn't help notice the contrast between what's being reported in the news and the reality I see when I go out.
