so when will the Queen address the nation?

During WW2, the King addressed the nation to reassure the people.

I have no idea what she would say - but is there a role for her, as Head of State, to say something?

Are you suggesting Coronavirus is similar to WW2?

Wauden · 14/03/2020 11:46

I see that as being the PM's role.

chomalungma · 14/03/2020 11:47

I am suggesting that during a time of national emergency, the Monarch is supposed to act as a reassuring, uniting figure head to the nation.

To be above politics.

Yes let's get the TV crew and drag more people to the queen, who is elderly, so she cab give a speech about what the government will do?

Unless all the stuff are in lock down and not allowed to leave, and they have a tv crew in there, she is at risk herself as is her husband

AnneJeanne · 14/03/2020 11:50

The Queen shouldn’t say anything. She’s got nothing to add to the situation.

Wauden · 14/03/2020 11:50

Leave her be, she's had a tough few months.

ViciousJackdaw · 14/03/2020 11:50

The queen can stay exactly where she is thank you very much. I'm already bored shitless with this social distancing and essential journeys only, imagine how bad it would be if she snuffed it - no decent telly or radio for a week.

Stevienickssleeves · 14/03/2020 11:51

Give over

DettolsYourFriend · 14/03/2020 11:52

The queen should not be having any excess, unnecessary visitors, just like any other 93 year old.

Sittinonthefloor · 14/03/2020 11:53

No. She’s in her 90s. She shouldn’t be seeing people, including film crews.

GinnyWeasleysQuiff · 14/03/2020 11:53

She shouldn't?

1point21gigawatts · 14/03/2020 11:54

Wtf has the queen got to do with it?!

Of all the things to worry about! Confused

ClarencesMum · 14/03/2020 11:55

It's hardly WW2 is it?

Butterwhy · 14/03/2020 11:55

What would you like here to say?

C8H10N4O2 · 14/03/2020 11:56

Perhaps we should have a new topic for coronavirus/royals overlap threads and open a third wing in the madhouse.

chomalungma · 14/03/2020 12:00

What would you like here to say

I don't know. I don't know if the older population would like a 'reassuring' face that they have known over the generations to talk to them about this.

No - it's not WW2. But there are going to be older people who are worried and who have grown up with the Queen. Who remember the reassurance and the words from the Palace during the war years.

It's just a thought.

She and Charles are both in the high risk age group and shouldn't be trotted out to make you feel better.

It is a virus not a political war where people are giving up their lives to fight on the front line, children being evacuated and buildings being bombed for years.

MrsGrindah · 14/03/2020 12:03

It's just a thought

But a daft one! Won’t make one iota of difference!

PristineCondition · 14/03/2020 12:04

Not sure how the words of a protected rich woman who will not be dealing with food\supply issues or limited medi help for her or her entire huge family will help the nation

bemoreeverything · 14/03/2020 12:05

I am suggesting that during a time of national emergency, the Monarch is supposed to act as a reassuring, uniting figure head to the nation.

WW2 survival advice I'm sure was a bit more ehh 'wash your hands'

Calm down.

bemoreeverything · 14/03/2020 12:06

How could she realise the nation when the Government are doing jack shit to protect us anyway?

bemoreeverything · 14/03/2020 12:06

*reassure

Notnowokay · 14/03/2020 12:12

I think it would nice, if only a select number of people came to record a statement she makes. Or get one of the other royals to do it. Or better yet just get one official person to record her making a nice speech.

Butterwhy · 14/03/2020 12:13

@chomalungma the trouble is that there's so many unknowns at the moment, it would be unfair of her to reassure people really.

MrsGrindah · 14/03/2020 12:14

A speech that says what? “ one must wash ones hands”?!
