If 80% of us could get it, who are the 20%?

If 60-80% of us are likely to get the virus (worst case scenario), who are the rest?

Are they people who can literally self-isolate indefinitely? What would you have to do to avoid it forever? Is that possible?

@bigbadoldbag- the second page is from a different book. One by a woman who claims to predict the future. Been doing the rounds all week.

bigbadoldbag · 14/03/2020 11:01

ThanksForAllTheFish-really? I don't normally involve myself in that sort of thing and I'll quietly ignore it from now on! 😉

Everydaylife · 14/03/2020 15:03

In light of the increased deaths (21 patients now) I am still wondering if it is possible to avoid the virus completely. I don’t live alone (single parent with dc in school) and live in a suburban area.

I think there will be a significant number of deaths from other illnesses due to lack of NHS staff and hospital beds, so although not directly due to the virus, the other deaths will be a consequence. I don’t know how the government will account for these or whether other countries are seeing this happen now.

walkingtheway · 14/03/2020 15:10

Not everyone gets every virus or illness. My DH has never had chicken pox yet has been in contact with people who have.

juneybean · 14/03/2020 15:12

I suspect I'm in the 20% my wife had norovirus last christmas and I got out unscathed. I thank my years of working in childcare 😂

Jamieson90 · 14/03/2020 15:13

The government's plan for herd immunity is madness. We don't know whether this virus will mutate. We also dont know what the long term health issues of surviving Covid19 are going to be. We don't know a lot....

"So our plan worked perfectly... 80% are now infected so no one else will be infected... Oh wait we just discovered everyone who contracted the disease is going to have life long complications and lung problems."

Thanks Boris....

Delatron · 14/03/2020 15:15

Some people are immune to norovirus. My DH has never vomited or had a sickness bug in all the 16 years I’ve known him. I’ve had lots and norovirus. He’s cleaned my sick bowl, shared a bed and bathroom and never picked it up. Maybe it’s the same with this virus but we just don’t know yet.

LentilWeavingExpert · 14/03/2020 15:19

Im thinking that our household had it at the beginning of last month. Youngest DS and teens were completely wiped out for 24 hours then perked up immediately.

DH and I had torturous shivers and sweats of the like I’ve never had before, very high temp, could hardly stand, then after 5 days developed a cough which felt like it was going to blow my head off. I’m quite fit but it took me a week to start functioning normally.

Our household is honestly very rarely ill.

The DC and I now have a second wave of runny noses and mild temps with mild coughs which shows our immunity hasn’t gone back to normal after that virus.

DD works in London and commutes on the tube and she had a very mild version first.

I dearly hope we have all had it already!

tabulahrasa · 14/03/2020 15:25

@AnotherMurkyDay

That’s what I make it too...

StillDisappointed · 14/03/2020 15:30

I think I may have had it too actually.

At the beginning of January I had a horrible chest infection. I was put on steroids, inhalers, antibiotics - my chest felt tight constantly. I had a v. high temperature and runny nose (which turned into a sinus infection.)
Took me a month to feel 'normal again' and I still have periods of my chest feeling tight and breathlessness now.
My DR has kept me on the inhalers.

DD (4) had something just before Christmas which wiped her out so much that she had to be woken up on Christmas Day. She opened her presents (v. slowly) then went back to sleep, had some dinner and went back to sleep again.
Again, v. high temp, cough, runny nose..

I hope we have had it.

KittenVsBox · 14/03/2020 15:31

@AnotherMurkyDay unfortunately I think your maths is correct.
0.02x0.8x66million is just over one million.

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/03/2020 15:33

It’s not a matter of NHS trusts choosing to treat young coronavirus patients over the old. It’s going to be a matter of NHS trusts choosing to treat young coronavirus patients over young Cancer / heart patients because the former have a better survival rate. We will get to a point where a 40 yo coronavirus victim without other conditions will be treated in ICU over younger cystic fribosis / cancer / heart etc patients even if the latter don’t get coronavirus.

AnotherMurkyDay · 14/03/2020 16:37

@KittenVsBox

Let's hope Boris is wrong then

Casino218 · 14/03/2020 17:13

People saying they had it in Dec I don't think it was corona virus. It was certainly very bad and myself and daughter were floored for a week. I had an horrendous chest but that was flu.
