Have people stopped going anywhere?

There seems to be a definite split in those taking the corona virus extremely seriously (with good reason for a minority) and those carrying on as normal.
We are supposed to be visiting friends next week, providing no one gets ill.
I wondered if people had noticed quieter motorway service stations/ roads etc?

I went into my local city today which is normally packed on a Friday, and it was distinctly quieter than usual.

I also saw several people walking around wearing face masks which was quite unsettling to see.

I don't think I'll be venturing into the city again anytime soon, but then I'm pregnant and feeling slightly paranoid about catching it.

LoadsaBlusher · 13/03/2020 17:13

Stopped going to playgroups a few weeks ago

No eating out

No cinema

Going to cancel the kids play dates for next week too

Catapillarsruletheworld · 13/03/2020 17:15

We have very few cases where we are, so currently carrying on more or less as normal. Just seeing how things pan out at the moment, but limiting contact with vulnerable relatives.

AnyFucker · 13/03/2020 17:16

I went shopping in a usually very busy market town today.

Friday is one the busiest days usually...the car park was deserted and the shopping area wasxeerily quiet

It should have been packed on the 1st sunny day for weeks

DoubleAction · 13/03/2020 17:17

Yes, DS has no shifts for next week (catering) as customer numbers are down so much. The coffee stand on our station is thinking of closing as it's barely worth opening. The lady who just tinted my eyelashes was in tears over how she's going to keep a roof over her DC with all the cancellations... and nothing has actually happened yet.

Wanderer1 · 13/03/2020 17:18

I'm carrying on as usual within reason. Still going to work, meetings, shops etc. I'm washing my hands more and avoiding people who display illness symptoms (one of my staff has a cold and I've suggested she work from home all week despite the symptoms not matching Corona)
Still hoping to go to Spain on holiday next week but that is rapidly becoming unlikely.

However I don't have any underlying health conditions (except pregnancy).

I am definitely aware and 'taking it seriously' I'm just not panicking or overly worried at the moment.

Iusedtobeapartygirl · 13/03/2020 17:18

I'm trying to carry on with normal life for the moment, while I still can. I'm taking sensible precautions though.

I went to the gym and to have my nails done this morning and everywhere seemed as busy as usual.

Puppywithattitude · 13/03/2020 17:20

I can't decide whether we are being blasé, but I don't want to be caught up in media hype either.

It is quiet in this small usually busy and touristy city even though no cases mentioned here as yet.

Yes to going out, to the sports centre, Waitrose and the park. noticed more cleaning of all the tills etc in the supermarket and more hand gel dispensers and signs at the gym, though.

Far less groups of tourists which makes things a lot less hectic

Egghead68 · 13/03/2020 17:21

I’m staying at home but I have a lung condition and it would likely kill me or leave me with permanent lung damage.

If I wasn’t in a high risk group I’d be going about business as usual, figuring I was going to get it sooner or later anyhow.

Scruffyoak · 13/03/2020 17:21

Seemed standard here. No change to norm.
Shop stocked. Full park after school. Parents in cafe and out on benches. School clubs still on. Didnt see anything out the norm.

Puppywithattitude · 13/03/2020 17:24

We are aware and doing more handwashing etc, but definitely not panicking.

It was my first day off for a week today so I went to the supermarket, half of the shelves were empty so I was a bit wtf, has the world gone mad or am I a numpty.

We're sat in a major international airport waiting for a domestic US flight and it's much, much quieter than it would be usually on a Friday afternoon.

NellMangel · 13/03/2020 17:28

Have cancelled plans for friend to visit and get takeaway. Plus have cancelled meal out 2moro. I will stay in all weekend, possibly go for walks if me and DC get stir crazy.

Will see what's happening on Monday and take it from there re work and school.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/03/2020 17:29

It was quite odd in Waitrose. It is usually really busy at lunchtimes (city centre) In the self checkout area it was just me and couple of others for about 12 tills. Checkout supervisor spraying and cleaning between each person.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/03/2020 17:30

Egghead Flowers hope you can do some self care things

hanahsaunt · 13/03/2020 17:31

Married to front line NHS with a very vulnerable patient cohort so as a house hold we are doing core life i.e. work, school, supermarket once a week. Everything else is suspended so no cinema, eating out, sports, extra curricular etc.

LettuceP · 13/03/2020 17:34

Carrying on as normal here. No one in my immediate family is in a high risk group so I'm not scared of catching the virus, will follow guidelines to protect others though.

TheWooisStrong · 13/03/2020 17:34

Work commute has been amazing this week -20min door to door when it’s usually a 45min crawl.
We’ve cut right back on socialising, just doing work/school and outside play dates with classmates at the park (with the hope that running around shrieking and playing football is low risk!)
No cafe visits, no mooching round the charity shops, no playgroup or softplay.

Gertie75 · 13/03/2020 17:34

I cancelled a non urgent hospital appointment but other than that have been doing the same things.

It's only at home when I watch the news or read threads on here that it seems anything is happening, in our local area nothing has changed, the local market was busy today, supermarkets stocked with loo roll, people making plans to meet up over the weekend etc

walkingtheway · 13/03/2020 17:36

I'm in my local pub and it's as busy as normal on a Friday night.

Furcoatgirl · 13/03/2020 17:43

I went to a shopping centre today, I didn't really want to but I'd promised ds (teacher training). It was actually busier than usual for a weekday.

I'm calling it the last outing for a while, think I'm going to avoid crowded places as much as possible.

Having said that, I've no choice but to go to work and for the dc go to school, so not sure how I can avoid it.

madcatladyforever · 13/03/2020 17:44

I had to do a 300 mile run for some medical treatment on Wednesday and the motorways and other A roads were packed solid, business as usual. I was hoping it would be quiet as I had to go as a day case but the usual 3 hour journey there and back was 5 hours and I was dead when I got home finally.
I don't think anyone is taking this seriously. I only went or its another 6 months on the waiting list.

madcatladyforever · 13/03/2020 17:45

Not 300, 150 = I did not do 100 mph there and back lol.
