I had a routine GP appt this morning.

There were a massive spike in horrible coughs and shortness of breath at the beginning of the year. Coughs that went on for weeks and they said we are seeing a lot of this and it going on for ages.

I needed asthma inhalers again.

With hindsight she said I've probably had coronavirus already. There isn't always a temperature with it and I didn't have one.

It was fine if I did have it. I'm fully recovered though it took weeks.

I had bronchitis with high fever at the beginning of the year. 3 lots of antibiotics and inhaler didn't touch it.

It's entirely possible and it had crossed my mind, but there's no way to know.

Unshriven · 13/03/2020 10:21

I'm sure loads of people have had it with few/no symptoms.

That will be the case for the majority of people who do actually catch it.

Most people will never know.

PickleSarnie · 13/03/2020 10:23

I was sick as a dog for three weeks at the beginning of the year with the worst cough and wheeziness I’ve ever had. A cough that kept me awake for 2 weeks in a row. Also had to get asthma inhalers again for the first time in years.

No temperature but had chills and night sweats.

Guess we’ll never know but I’ll be glad if it was so hopefully have some immunity now!

TulipsInAVase · 13/03/2020 10:27

If you have had it, would you have antibodies, so if you were tested, there would be a way to know? I'm not suggesting anybody does get tested, or that anybody will get tested, just that it is possible I think, although I am in no way a medical person so I may be quite wrong. I just remember reading something about someone doing research into swine flu and testing for antibodies, and people being surprised they had had it.

Giggorata · 13/03/2020 10:38

I went to a multinational conference at the beginning of November for a few days, in shared accommodation and with communal eating. I got something nasty after that, beginning with a short lived fever, and then coughing and difficulty breathing. I was off work for around 2 months.
I wonder if it could have been Covid-19?
Seems a bit early, but it could have been circulating prior to the headlines in early December........

ritatherockfairy · 13/03/2020 10:42

There was a piece in the paper today saying they think they can trace the first case in Wuhan back to 17th November.

BlindAssassin1 · 13/03/2020 10:50

Me too OP, I had an appalling cough in January that I just couldn't shake off, went on for over three weeks. Couldn't quite get enough air into me to take full breaths - I swim, practice yoga and this does not happen to me. Eventually went to the GP who said no need for AB, there's a lot of it around.

I'm wondering if I've had it, if you're immune afterwards (to this strain at least?) and if they can even check after the fact even.

Annabellesdad · 13/03/2020 10:52

I work in the cycling industry and a lot of our stock comes from the far east (and my boss was in china around end of november 2019) I had a terrible christmas with illness, like nothing that has ever got me before (and i am not one for being taken out by anything)raging fever, dry hacking cough for weeks and absolutely no energy. I was almost going to hospital unable to breathe on boxing day (in hindsight i should have gone, it was terrifying) - I also think i may have already had it, but surely my wife and family would also have had it??

mummumumumumumumumumum · 13/03/2020 10:53

i am convinced i had it over christmas. Flu like symptoms with a horrendous chest infection. I was nearly hospitalised with breathlessness, it took weeks to recover.

fretnot · 13/03/2020 10:54

I am self-isolating now for an awful headache and cough. No fever but chills and sweats, like you said. Feel a bit short of breath and utterly wiped out but could be pregnancy contributing to that!

walkingtheway · 13/03/2020 10:56

I'm pretty sure my friend who went skiing in Italy in early January had it. She was very unwell with all the symptoms for a couple of weeks. Now fully recovered. CV wasn't really been talked about then so she just thought it was a nasty bug.

Cosmos45 · 13/03/2020 10:59

i am completely convinced a relative of mine had this at the beginning of January. She was in a European country at the time fairly near Italy and was hospitalised with severe breathing difficulties and a really bad persistent cough...

MaomiMak · 13/03/2020 11:02

I hope I have had it. Because it means some immunity

soloula · 13/03/2020 11:03

DH was the same. Had a terrible virus at the start of December. Completely floored him. Dry, hacking cough, fevers (had a fever at the start for a couple days, eased off for a week then flared up again) ended up signed off with bronchitis but I'm now wondering if it was CV as the symptoms match up. It was about 5 weeks before he was fully recovered.

Zenithbear · 13/03/2020 11:04

I and several friends have already had it we think. Worst dry cough, chest pains, sweating and breathlessness lasting almost two months. I am fit and active and couldn't walk upstairs without being out of breath.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 13/03/2020 11:06

I’ve just posted a thread, asking exactly the same question. The cough was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before and I now have residual breathlessness and still using the inhalers my GP gave me. I do not have any previous known lung condition but six weeks after “the bug” I eventually saw my gp who gave me steroids, antibiotics and inhalers.

And three months later, I still couldn’t run for a bus (or up a flight of stairs for that matter) without breathlessness.

damnthatanxiety · 13/03/2020 11:07

Every winter people get very bad colds, respiratory illnesses and the flu but of course this year everyone is convinced they had Covid-19 Hmm

Annabellesdad · 13/03/2020 11:08

@soloula that is exactly what my GP said I had, but I've had bronchitis before and this was definitely different and the antibiotics prescribed didn't do much
I don't know if i am imagining it, but i feel more lethargic since Christmas, almost as if i am still getting over it. (I'm sure that is only in my head though)

TobyeBella · 13/03/2020 11:08

Me, dh and 3 year old DS all had what we assumed was a nasty virus in January, dh developed a chest infection. We were all coughing for weeks.

I'm not convinced it was Coronavirus at all but it was one of worst bugs we've had in years and it makes me wonder how many people may have it and just get in with it assuming it's just a normal virus.

DontCallMeShitley · 13/03/2020 11:10

I know someone that had flu late last year and ended up in hospital unable to breathe. Went home and had to be re-admitted as it returned. No one really knew what it was and assumed pneumonia. All the symptoms were there.

MaomiMak · 13/03/2020 11:12

Every winter people get very bad colds, respiratory illnesses and the flu but of course this year everyone is convinced they had Covid-19

Only when I went to my GP she said god we are seeing these coughs go on for weeks....that wasnt normal she said.

You have a medical degree bright spark?!

I rarely get coughs and colds haven't had flu for over 15 years

willdoitinaminute · 13/03/2020 11:16

Also had horrendous cough virus before half term. I’m a dentist and will be pretty much guaranteed to get it early but maybe I have had it. The cough was awful and for 24hrs I was struggling to breath. I spent nearly a week sleeping upright on the settee. The cough wasn’t productive but as it cleared I was coughing up clear very fluid sputum rather than the gunk you get with bacterial chest infection. If I had it now I would definitely assume it was Covid-19.
There was a flu like bug going round the schools locally with a few days of high fever but fairly rapid recovery. It’s strange that we are one of the counties with no positive cases so far and self isolation for the elderly has happened due to severe flooding. Lots of events have been cancelled and people just haven’t been able to get out and about to socialise. The local city & town centres have been like ghost towns as most straddle the river Severn.
DH had it at the same time and was in bed for a few days. It has taken nearly a month for us both to recover and still have days when I feel fluy with a slight fever.
Luckily I have had two weeks off over the month and I only work 2 days a week. We also use all the recommended PPE etc. We are still waiting for a directive from local area team on how the primary dental service is going to operate over the next few months. We may be closed to everyone apart from emergencies. I suspect this will just be the tip of the iceberg. I remember the isolation plans for Swineflu. Anyone pushing for lockdown has no idea how life is going to change.

INeedToGetHealthy · 13/03/2020 11:22

By reading through this thread, I suspect that my household has already had it too. As all of my DCs have had rotten coughs a few weeks ago that lasted for a long time and general mild flu type symptoms. I have had body aches sweats/chills recently but I have come off some heavy duty medication cold turkey recently too, so I don't know what caused my feeling ill. My DH Aldo had the same symptoms as the DCs.

quirrels · 13/03/2020 11:25

It would be good to have a test for immunity, so those who have had it can relax and hug their elderly parents.
