I had a routine GP appt this morning.

There were a massive spike in horrible coughs and shortness of breath at the beginning of the year. Coughs that went on for weeks and they said we are seeing a lot of this and it going on for ages.

I needed asthma inhalers again.

With hindsight she said I've probably had coronavirus already. There isn't always a temperature with it and I didn't have one.

It was fine if I did have it. I'm fully recovered though it took weeks.

I had a virus from around the middle of December last year until it finally faded out near the end of January this year. The symptoms were very much like those that we are now told to look out for and self-isolate with.

Coughing, usually dry, though occasionally not. Shortness of breath as it settled on my chest. Aches and pains, occasional fevers and headaches. On and on it went, sometimes seeming to get better and then coming back. It was nasty and I visited the GP in early January but was of course just told that it was a virus, lots of it about and to just ride it out with plenty of fluids.

My DH and my DDs did not seem to get it, but of course, it is possible to be asymptomatic and still carry it. So inadvertently spreading?

I will probably never know, but it has crossed my mind to wonder whether or not it was Covid 19. I think it is perfectly possible that it has been circulating in this country for much longer than we are being led to believe. For me (and it sounds like for others too) the timing could fit, especially if the first cases in China are thought to have been in November.

If that should prove to be the case then it is probably becoming endemic by now.

It intrigues me. If there were a test which could reveal whether or not it was Covid 19 then I would enquire about it. Not sure they have one yet though.

My husband still has A cough he developed before Christmas. He too was diagnosed with bronchitis and had to have antibiotics which unfortunately didn’t work being a viral infection. He went for salt room therapy and bought a salt pipe that eventually shifted the majority of it but still has A bit of it now. He sounded awful when he was sleeping, like he was choking and couldn’t finish a sentence without a coughing fit.

notangelinajolie · 13/03/2020 15:22

@Porcupineinwaiting

People die from complications caused by viral infection all the time. It could have been Covid-19 - we don't know because Covid -19 has only been a known virus since December 19 and they can't test for something they don't know about yet.

BiBiBirdie · 13/03/2020 15:33

@Porcupineinwaiting it's simple: previously, anyone with symptoms we know assume to be CV, were treated as annual flu/cold/bronchitis/pneumonia. They would be included in winter virus annual numbers/deaths.
Now that CV is known about, people are being tested for that specifically, and the true numbers of those tested for it specifically are known. Even now, we don't know full numbers, the Scientific expert at the press conference said as much yesterday as people can have it in different degrees without knowing, plus 111 was only testing patients who had been abroad to certain zones or with a known case.

that was badly worded, I meant in China, not here

Sorry Picklebottom.

My error.

PickleBottomNo3sMum · 13/03/2020 16:31

I think this is all very wishful thinking guys.

As much as I’d love to believe we’ve all already had it, how does that explain why DC3 and I experienced the symptoms of CV in Oct yet the three other members of my household remained perfectly healthy?

It was either the weaker S strain which spreads more slowly or something else.

My husband, daughter and son all had really nasty coughs in January/February, that went on for at least 2 weeks with no cold symptoms.... I was fine tho, so maybe I'm immune?

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 13/03/2020 16:52

@MaomiMak I’ve said in another thread that there would’ve been a huge spike in viral pneumonia deaths in January/February if this was the case. I also had one of the worst chest infections of my life in Jan which led to pleurisy, a punctured lung and took 6 wks for my breathing to get back to normal . It crossed my mind I’d already had it.

However last week, 10 days after being face to face with Chinese tourists I got awful flu symptoms, fever, headache, crusty eyes (apparently this is a symptom 8% got in Wuhan which I only found out todat) and the weirdest, most awful dry cough and shortness of breath its like nothing ive had in 42 years of chest infections (im lifelong asthmatic). The coughing doesn’t bring anything up at all and feels like its only going 1/4 of the way down. Everything is dry, even my mouth and throat. The pain stabbing my lungs is awful and I’m still so drained now. So I don’t think it was around in Jan but I do think people have had it the last few weeks.

Usernamealreadyexists · 13/03/2020 16:54

I’m certain my mother had it after a trip to South Asia in December. I said she needed to be careful she wasn’t getting pneumonia. It was different to normal flu. China has identified the first case in November.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 13/03/2020 16:58

@notangelinajolie... I have a back problem and trapped nerve. Every cough was excruciating. I got to the stage where I was taking far too much over the counter cough medication but was past caring.

HarrietOh · 13/03/2020 16:58

If it had already been circulating we would have seen the huge increase in deaths and overrun hospitals as is being seen in Italy.

itsgettingweird · 13/03/2020 17:02

See I also have had the same thought.

But I do suspect it's a different flu virus doing the rounds too because of the fact less than 1000 out of 30,000+ people tested have actually tested positive for covid 19

cologne4711 · 13/03/2020 17:04

I doubt it was circulating in October.

But to answer your question, just because you've not had something before, and aren't immune doesn't mean you will get it. You have to be susceptible to it. So it's quite possible for some members of a family to get something and the others not.

itsgettingweird · 13/03/2020 17:06

But it's interesting with the sticky eyes.

A few weeks ago I had a virus - really bad sinus pain followed by the sorest throat I've ever experienced (worse than tonsillitis), extreme lethargy and temp. Ended with really bloodshot and sore eyes.

But I worked through and was only ill for 5/6 days.

Some nasty viruses around this winter.

Grasspigeons · 13/03/2020 17:25

I have the reverse in that i'm really sure i havent had it and am really worried about getting it as i have had a collapsed lung before and then got pleurisy and the following few winters had chest infections.
I hated the pain and feeling of not being able to breathe. However a really bad cough did circulate at the school work at and people did have pneumonia. So i can see how that would look like it had been round already.
I just think looking at china, italy and iran, it hasnt.

SheSellSeaShells · 13/03/2020 17:28

I really wish this was true, I had an awful virus in October and November - which I guess was way before any of the corona virus was around, awful awful cough I had to have an inhaler, and I'd never used one before. It was over 8 weeks till I felt better - dreading getting anything else again so soon after that...
