Do I really need to stay home?

Me and ds have a cough which i believe is from a cold. We've both had runny noses and no temperature.

Does he really need to stay off school and do I really need to stay off work?

@annamie yes. Any temperature over 37.8

Apolloanddaphne · 13/03/2020 10:59

My DH has now been to the GP. He has had a UTI confirmed and been given antibiotics. His temperature had been slightly elevated but this is linked to his infection and he has not been told to self isolate.

HotChocolatemarshmallows · 13/03/2020 11:00

STAY AT HOME!!!

God it's really not that hard to understand 🙄

BooseysMom · 13/03/2020 11:21

Its a really selfish approach to not follow the guidelines. People could die because of it. he has a cough which is not the norm for him. He is supposed to be isolated.

No he hasn't got a persistent cough, neither does he have a fever. Loads of kids at his school have summer colds and are occasionally coughing. They all have snotty noses and it's nigh on impossible to get a young child to wash his/her hands for at least 20 seconds several times a day. I have tried and continue to try. If i should isolate him then so should all the other parents with snotty kids

Online shopping - £40 is the min value for Tesco - book some deliveries in now.

I think iceland don't have a minimum.

You can live on packets and tins for a week, your meals will not be michelin starred but you won't starve.

Yes. I have my usual cold/chest infection symptoms. As soon as the advice came out yesterday from the press conference, I followed it.

We all have to, even if we think it doesn't apply to us, even if we think our symptoms are different and it's not COVID-19, even if it would be really inconvenient to do.

You aren't doing it for yourself, you're doing it for vulnerable people.

Yes, they should if their child has a new, persistent cough or a fever. It's very simple.

Minesabecks · 13/03/2020 12:17

snotty is not on the list.

HasaDigaEebowai · 13/03/2020 12:37

This is the official CDC advice poster. Runny nose is a possible symptom

Do I really need to stay home?
tobee · 13/03/2020 12:47

I dare say some will be having to self isolate a couple of times? Something was said about that in the statement/press conference yesterday but I forget what

Minesabecks · 13/03/2020 13:24

Symptom or not, it is not one of the reasons we have been given for self-isolation. There are only two of those.

JingsMahBucket · 13/03/2020 13:38

@Apolloanddaphne glad to hear your husband was diagnosed. UTIs can be painful and possibly deadly depending on the person. Definitely get him checked again later though in case for CV. How long is his course of meds?

Captaindobbin · 13/03/2020 13:49

People moaning they haven’t got enough food in for a week so couldn’t possibly self isolate. See my patience is wearing thin with these excuses. This is coming. We’ve known this is coming for weeks now. Weeks and weeks. Get some bloody pasta in!!

Druna · 13/03/2020 14:12

You can live on packets and tins for a week, your meals will not be michelin starred but you won't starve.

This is true, but what do you do in the case of a lockdown that could be weeks and weeks?

Why are people making out like the rules apply to everyone else but not them?

Because they aren't rules, they are advice.

Lockdown doesn't mean you can't go to the shops. If you have no symptoms you can still leave the house

I'm not sure it's a lock-down then. Sounds exactly the same as self-isolating. What's the difference?

I must say, though, threads like this make such a nice contract to all the work-related smug posts you get on here about "I go to work on my knees/Everybody goes into work with a cold, take some meds and get on with it". Now, if you have a runny nose you better take 7 days off work because now people care about other people.

Druna · 13/03/2020 14:12

Contract? Contrast!

Druna · 13/03/2020 14:17

Some elderly people do not have family around to collect shopping for them and don't know how to use a computer for online shopping. What do they do? Some people are still going to need to go out, even if they are infected.

brimfullofasha · 13/03/2020 21:10

I think staying off is sensible. My DS has a temperature which I'm sure I due to the cold he has (I had a cold last week) but we are keeping him off. This will only work if people are very cautious and isolate 'just in case'. It's only a week and things aren't exactly normal at the moment.
