To ask people who can afford to stock up to also consider food banks

They haven't closed schools yet, but it could definitely be on the cards in the near future, and many children depend on free school meals. Combine that with the double blow of lost earnings for the working poor and a lot of families could be devastated even if they don't get ill.

Obviously everybody's first priority is there own family, but if you are able please think about adding an extra food bank donation next time you go shopping. Especially as if we do go to lockdown no one will be visiting shops, so donations will fall just when there needed most.

Literally just said the same to DH. We’re going to
Do a food shop tomorrow night after work and shelves permitting we’ll stick a bagful in the food banks trolley

Bumping, this is an issue that needs further attention.

Someaddedsugar · 12/03/2020 20:43

Thank you for this OP - I (selfishly) hadn't thought about this but I'm going to do our food shop tomorrow and so I'll make sure to buy a bagful to put in the food bank box.

Hi there, we are moving this to our Coronavirus topic area now.

Food banks often have an oversupply of pasta, but stuff like tinned fish/meat, soup, tinned puddings/fruit is welcome. If you are staying in a b and b, you may only have access to a kettle/microwave, so try to bear that in mind.

Good thread, I did a shop for the food bank today after realising I was lucky to be able to stock up, a few years ago I wouldn’t have been in a position to. I included sanitary towels, nappies and wipes as well as biscuits, jam, some pasta and pasta sauce, super noodles, shower gels and custard.

Can we donate money so that those in charge of the food banks can buy what is needed?

ForeverBubblegum · 12/03/2020 20:57

MyPartInHistory you can at a lot of food banks. Best option might be to Google your local food bank, most will have a website with details of how to send cash donations.

Yes we talked about this at the school gates last week, the school always has a food donation box out so no excuse for me not to take anything in. Thanks for the reminder.
