Just that, is it down to survival either way?

Yes we are.

Because it’s going to get really bad, and we have the choice, and I am in a high risk group.

We are lucky that we live very rurally and have a lot of hobbies! Also DH is an ex teacher so we have education covered as they are primary age.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 12/03/2020 19:29

No, because DS is in his GCSE year and I don't think I know better than experts in the field.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/03/2020 19:36

I can't afford to so it's not an option but I wouldn't anyway at the moment. I might have done if it gets worse but in my situation I will have to wait until government shuts schools.

Nuffaluff · 12/03/2020 19:38

No I can’t. I am a teacher and my husband works from the NHS. We have to continue going to work so we can’t take them out.

Kuponut · 12/03/2020 19:38

I'm seeing what happens over the next day and weekend (I'm hoping when they see the backlash from that not-announcement they'll u-turn somewhat) and then yes, I may do so. Not concerned about loss of learning - I'm an ex primary teacher myself... actually one may well be off tomorrow anyway as she's just got a bit of a grotty snotball situation going on.

Beesisabuzzin · 12/03/2020 19:39

Not yet. You're going to be home a long time.

HoffiCoffi13 · 12/03/2020 19:46

I’m a SAHM so could keep my older two who are school age off, but I’m not. Not yet.
This thing is going to go on for a very very long time. How long would I keep them off for? Indefinitely? I’ll keep them off when we’re told to.

SummerSazz · 12/03/2020 20:17

No. Although if there was a confirmed case at the school I might think twice. They'll be off soon I'm sure and fairly indefinitely.
That said if they had underlying health conditions they wouldn't be there and I'd be wfh

Thisisworsethananticpated · 12/03/2020 20:20

No
Not right now

ThreeBlindNice · 12/03/2020 20:22

It's really hard to decide what to do for the best. For now my primary aged children are still going in school. I think we'll see how it goes but this could go on for weeks )-:

HopefullyAnonymous · 12/03/2020 20:23

No.

PeppermintPasty · 12/03/2020 20:24

No. Too much too soon.

Comefromaway · 12/03/2020 20:26

No because one is in gcse year & the other in A Level year.

millymaud · 12/03/2020 20:27

Yes

StormyDecember · 12/03/2020 20:28

I have a full time nanny but will keep my DC at school for as long as possible.

Allyfromtheblock · 12/03/2020 20:29

Am thinking to keep my child from school.. statistics show this can be very bad

Paintforkitchen · 12/03/2020 20:29

No, I’m a sahm and have no intention of keeping them off until the schools close.

HumpHumpWhale · 12/03/2020 20:29

No, because I'm not high risk and neither are they. We're not going near their grandparents until either this is over, or we've all had it and recovered, though.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 12/03/2020 20:29

Considering it.

I can work from home, and often do anyway. Eldest both have to travel by public transport. I have an elderly immunocompromised parent who lives with us.

Lack of action seems proposterous given Ireland's decision

Snotalot · 12/03/2020 20:31

No. I don't get paid if they are off. That's what it boils down to.

Hoppinggreen · 12/03/2020 20:34

I can but I’m not going to

Chienloup · 12/03/2020 20:36

I wouldn't. But this really worries me, in terms of starting to see a social divide in who gets sick and who doesn't.
A mother in my son's class has already taken her kids out, but they can afford the fines, and they are well-off enough that she is a sahm to school-aged children, so there is no impact on their earnings.

I can't afford to take my children out, both of us work full-time and we both need to do that.

I think the government needs to find ways to ensure that we don't turn haves and have-nots, into lives and live-nots.

0hT00dles · 12/03/2020 20:42

As we're in ireland, we have no choice.
I am a sahm and my dh will be working from home as of tomorrow for the foreseeable future.

I have offered to help others out (but companies are now encouraged to wfh if they can).

Myshinynewname · 12/03/2020 21:03

I could afford the fines and can work from home but I'm undecided. My instinct is to keep them home and protect them, but once I have kept them off, at one point is it safe to send them back?

ValleyoftheHorses · 12/03/2020 21:06

Not yet.
We won’t get fined and DH is WFH but I’m leaving it a little longer in the hopes that school closes.
We are no longer seeing Grandparents much.
