Going to Centre Parcs next week, should I cancel?

Aargh I’ve been so looking forward to this. Single parent, two kids, and have Centre Parcs booked next week. I won’t get back any money mad this is our main holiday of the year. I live in Ireland so flying over to UK for it.

I’m thinking of still going. Or should I cancel and lose all money (including all activities paid for) Confused

I really feel for you. I think you need to wait for today's announcement and go from there.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to rearrange? I'd be worried about getting stuck here and not getting home if things lockdown next week. If your ill at home someone can help with the children, if you get it here what would you do??

florababy84 · 12/03/2020 08:28

No, don't cancel. If they get told to shut down or pause certain activities then they may offer refunds or credit. It would be awful to have canceled yourself then find that you could have rebooked without losing money.

TemporaryName123 · 12/03/2020 08:33

Could you ask for your booking to be changed to the Longford Centre Park?

NewNameGuy · 12/03/2020 08:38

Don't cancel, go if you can, if it gets cancelled for you then you might get money back

LutherRalph1 · 12/03/2020 08:39

We are due to go at the end of the month, still will unless anything drastically changes

Shortwinter · 12/03/2020 09:00

Thanks. A few days ago I was thinking No, but now I’m more inclined to go, they are not interested in allowing me to change it unfortunately.

I doubt there will be any major announcement after Cobra (again).

I wouldn't take the risk, especially as I'd be worrying the whole time, but I realise I am overly cautious.

lilliesand · 12/03/2020 09:05

We are due to go to a holiday park in Scotland on Monday and have no plans to cancel...

MoltonSilver · 12/03/2020 09:28

The 'no plans to cancel' attitude is exactly what the Italians did. Yes, people got to go on the ski trips that they had paid for but was it worth it in the end?

Shortwinter · 12/03/2020 09:28

If I do go, I was wondering how to minimize the risk.

No swimming?
Only one restaurant or take away?
Outdoor activities rather than inside?

Stay in the chalet. Job done!

Emcont · 12/03/2020 09:30

We're booked to go to Haven in Dorset at the end of the month. We will still go unless told not to. But will avoid crowds, probably not swim.

We are also booked to go to Majorca mid June. Again, unless we are told not to we are hoping to go!

Shortwinter · 12/03/2020 09:31

I’m finding it hard to judge the risk. Own lodge, will disinfect, good. Outdoors, good. Yet plenty of people skiing got it. From shared lifts etc.? There must have been high risk areas. Also, uk is building up numbers, but not quite peaked yet... aaargh not sure!

Wait and see. Dont make any decisions now but prepare kids for a possible cancellation .
I'd say by next week we will have very different scenario and a lot of places will be temporarily closed anyway .

Freezingold · 12/03/2020 09:32

@NotJustAnyFucker Ha ha! yes but what if the lodge has it all over the surfaces! (Kind of joking... I think)

IrishMamaMia · 12/03/2020 09:34

Eugh that is so annoying. I've just posted on another thread as I am likely to cancel my trip to France next week.
I am Irish and I would probably still go ahead with a UK Ireland trip right now despite being pretty worried about the virus. Our countries are unlikely to shut down to each in the next fortnight. Just my opinion. I wouldn't go if I or close family are high risk.
Make sure your travel insurance is sorted.

Floralnomad · 12/03/2020 09:37

Just go and enjoy yourself , you are just as likely to catch it somewhere else so why spoil your holiday .

Tfoot75 · 12/03/2020 09:41

Go and enjoy it while you can. There won't be any major action in the next week. Germany, France and Spain are all at least 1 week ahead of us and none has taken any blanket actions yet apart from large events. We aren't going to go against the grain but will wait and see what happens there, particularly Germany who haven't really taken any actions at all. Today will be at most a ban on large indoor events. Center parcs may have to limit numbers in the swimming complex but even then, I doubt it.

Shortwinter · 12/03/2020 09:53

Thank you all. Although Centre Parcs is sometimes called a Petri dish for contagion!

OP posts:
Spied · 12/03/2020 09:58

I'd definitely not be going.
Don't cancel though. Cross your fingers it's closed so you get your money back.
They don't have to know you weren't going to be going now anyway.

Samila · 13/03/2020 16:05

Just received an email from CP saying they are relaxing their terms and conditions about rearranging and that you can do if you want to without losing money

melissasummerfield · 13/03/2020 16:37

Just saw this on cp sm

We are relaxing our terms and conditions to allow our guests arriving up to and including 27th April to change the date of their break to any alternative in the future.

There's no need to call us as a matter of urgency to change the arrival date of your break. You can make the change up until the day before you're due to arrive.

Mummyshark2018 · 13/03/2020 16:49

The subtropical swimming pool is surely a breeding ground at the best of times. I was in centre parcs a few weeks ago and out of term time it wasn't too busy. It would be a shame to go and not use the pool though as it's the best part!

RhymingRabbit3 · 13/03/2020 16:52

I wouldnt go.

Even outdoor activities are no good if other people are doing them too. Most activities involve touching surfaces that others will have touched (play equipment, golf clubs etc.) Or being in close quarters with others.

I definitely wouldnt be going in the swimming area.

So that leaves wandering around in the woods trying to avoid interaction, or staying in the lodge. Might as well stay at home with your own comforts.

SparkyBlue · 13/03/2020 16:56

@TemporaryName123 the Irish one has had to close so won't be open
