Is it going to be drastic changes? Or just 'work at home if you can'?

Given Scotland is in charge of its own education provision, could it follow ROI? The border area between Scotland and England is sparsely populated for the most part, I doubt many kids live in one and go to school in the other.

Here’s the Ireland update

lyralalala · 12/03/2020 11:47

Ireland’s school and building closures take effect from 6pm today. That’s definitive action!

fedup21 · 12/03/2020 11:49

So school closures and restrictions on large gatherings are a great idea, except for us...

Flyingpurplepeopleeater · 12/03/2020 11:52

Our school has sent an email outlining what will happen if/when the school closes.

UYScuti · 12/03/2020 11:56

It has been suggested that higher death rates in Italy and China are linked to higher rates of smoking in older people in those two countries

Dementedswan · 12/03/2020 11:56

Is the PM announcement being broadcast on tv? I've turned the tv on but the menu is just showing the usual programmes..

PurpleDaisies · 12/03/2020 11:58

I’d expect it to be on the news channel. I doubt there’ll be an interruption to the normal schedule.

yatapina · 12/03/2020 12:01

I haven't seen any press conference details but have seen that the Cobra meeting is due to take place this afternoon?

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 12/03/2020 12:01

I've got the news on and no annoucement?

AuntieStella · 12/03/2020 12:01

SKY has just shown Boris walking to a podium. Not sure if that's live footage, as they're doing a general update now on Norway and Ireland closing schools

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 12:02

@PurpleDaisies Nothing on bbc news yet. I assume it'll be breaking and they'll jump over to is. Still saying government is to have a cobra meeting as the headline

Hellsbells123098 · 12/03/2020 12:03

Littleboy me too, hoping it’s any minute but I cannot see that they have said it’s going to be now they have just said later?

PurpleDaisies · 12/03/2020 12:04

I’m not convinced there actually is an announcement coming at 12pm.

Weregoingonanadventure · 12/03/2020 12:04

The cobra meeting hasn't happened yet. It's this afternoon.
I cant find any information saying there will be an announcement at 12.

Frazzled2207 · 12/03/2020 12:04

Neither am - Jeremy vine just said they are in cobra until 1.15

bettertimesarecomingnow · 12/03/2020 12:05

Schools colleges and childcare closing in Ireland from 6pm today! Until 29th March

Whatusernamecanihave · 12/03/2020 12:05

Cobra meeting is at lunchtime so no announcement yet I dont think

Sparklingplasters · 12/03/2020 12:06

COBRA is still sitting, where did the 12 announcement come from?

doubleshotespresso · 12/03/2020 12:06

Surely if we border Ireland we should be following suit regarding closures?

Sparklingplasters · 12/03/2020 12:06

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-51850811

RedRed9 · 12/03/2020 12:06

Where did the info come from that there would be an announcement at 12 anyway?

polkadotdenim · 12/03/2020 12:07

Will nurseries/pre-schools also close if it’s enforced?

Kuponut · 12/03/2020 12:07

I posted this yesterday, but universities have been on strike (or many staff have) for nearly a month anyway, so it's not clear where the students are- at home, at uni accommodation or in some landlord house in town.

Or like one on our course - they buggered off on holiday to Northern Italy last week, came back the day before the entire country was made a "self isolate if you come back" zone and are in lectures going on about how quiet it was because "they've all got that corona thing" and off out onto placement.

To say I'm pissed off about this situation (I made university aware of where she'd come back from - don't give a shit about her skipping a week of term but do give a shit about that) is an understatement.
