Is it going to be drastic changes? Or just 'work at home if you can'?

BBC says we’re expected to move to delay phase but a ban on public gatherings not thought likely at this stage. Seems strange as social distancing seemed to be the main thing involved in the delay phase.
Hope it will at least be work from home if possible and schools closures probably happening in the next week or so.

birdybirdbird · 12/03/2020 07:19

Who will end up teaching them though @NewYearNewTwatName if the order will be to self isolate at signs of cold? I’m a teacher and I’ve had a cold since October! It will end up be huge classes kept busy with colouring by which ever staff can actually make it in.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/03/2020 07:20

^this would close our school outright.

yolofish · 12/03/2020 07:20

Trump has banned all flights into the USA except from UK and Ireland.
This makes no sense to me, but then it's Trump after all.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/03/2020 07:21

b) everyone with cold symptoms to self isolate

Sorry, this would close our school pdq.

smiften · 12/03/2020 07:21

The chancellor is on the BBC live at the moment, he's not sounding as if school closures are about to happen.

Can't upset Bojo and the special relationship

Everyone in our company are working from home, we all agreed that yesterday, and lots of companies we deal with aren’t going into the office at all, everyone working from home. Fortunately in our business we can do that, but I am concerned for companies that don’t have that option.

TeddyIsaHe · 12/03/2020 07:25

@Janemarpling the US have stopped flights to people in the Schengen zone. The IK & Ireland are not part of that.

Bluewater1 · 12/03/2020 07:31

I wonder if he'll say vulnerable groups should now self isolate, such as the elderly, perhaps?
Or maybe that schools will all start the Easter break a week earlier?

Snowpatrolling · 12/03/2020 07:33

Just heard that they are planning to shut schools for 2 weeks, as of next Friday. Not sure how true this is. Apparently teachers have reported they have been told to make learning packs for the kids by this Friday.

Certainly not been told this in my school.

What are Jehovah's Witnesses supposed to sing?

"Nearer my God to thee?"

QueenEdith · 12/03/2020 07:41

We should all be singing the National Anthem

I've read that we're moving to the delay phase. And the peak isn't likely for another 2 months, not weeks.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 12/03/2020 07:44

Our school and so many others I would imagine are doing everything they can that is practical to keep everyone safe.Cleaners are on overtime and porters. and all handles on doors are disifected many times through out the day as are sinks and loos and surfaces like telephones and keyboards ..we all break up for easter in 3 weeks anyway so everything that can be done is being done. I don;t think the schools need to close.Whist I understand this is a serious situation I think the hysteria surrounding it is so not helping anyone.

okiedokieme · 12/03/2020 07:44

The university staff have been told to be prepared to record lectures - already happens but they will not have anyone watching. Seminars will be online using conference call software. Only one more week of term here though. There's a plea from our local secondary school (in an area of deprivation) for old working laptops that they can clean down and lend to youngsters without one in case they have to teach online.

OvertiredandConfused · 12/03/2020 07:46

Where I work, we are splitting the workforce from next week. Most people will alternate between working in the office and working remotely with a small group of people who have underlying health conditions being exclusively home-based.

DoubleAction · 12/03/2020 07:47

Lots of schools are planning for a shut down, just in case, but all the official news coming from government and the LAs is that it's business as usual.

I think we will see some school closures because of staff absence but not government decreed closures. Not yet anyway.

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/03/2020 07:49

I think it will be a lot of serious sounding nothing. Lots of things we may do in a couple of weeks, but no immediate action.

Scbchl · 12/03/2020 07:52

My daughters teacher gave her a learning pack yday for revision for her exams "just incase". She is meant to have Easter study school which may not go ahead so the teachers given them all packs of what shes made up.

Another teacher also told her yday not to worry about exams they are making them all up learning packs incase they are closed. Theres three cases in our county now.

Woukd Scotland be forced to adopt the same measures as England at the same time when we are much further behind with the spread so far?

speakout · 12/03/2020 07:53

My OHs office has closed. Everyone has been told to work from home until further notice.

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 12/03/2020 07:54

Secondary schools with high level of teacher absence might close to years 7-10 and 12 and redeploy all available teachers to GCSE and A Level students.
