It'll be quite a bold move if they do nothing, considering what all other countries are doing.

We are all going to get this virus. We can’t fight it or hide away from it. When we come out of hiding it will still be there. And whoosh it will overwhelm us again (that is the China worry). The plan is to let us all get it slowly and build our immunity. The scientists will be modelling all the levers up and down to assist the spread through the population in a controlled manner. Tweak this and it goes up. Tweak that and it goes down. That is what they will be doing. Schools closing will be one of the levers. We have to trust them. We don’t have the modelling. They do. Trump has shot from the hip and stopped flights. The virus is already in the USA. He wants to blame the EU. But I would prefer to rely on the data. Whether it works or not I don’t know but is the best we have. Better than trumps hip shoot.

I do agree banning bigger happenings but closing schools would be a step too far. In a perfect world I would let the virus takes its toll.

I think Sturgeon's announcement this afternoon makes it very clear that schools will close- it is simply a case of when.

I can see an announcement next Tuesday/ Wednesday saying schools will close from Friday 20th.

In that tweet it say no school closures likely until the summer. That feels a bit too far off.

DS (Yr11) has come home with rafts of revision - this is in marked contrast to the school website that literally said hell would freeze over before the school shut.
He's been told they may be shut tomorrow or next week, but nothing confirmed yet. I expect we'll receive an email anytime soon.

It would suit this government to let the virus run rampant and kill off a good chunk of the elderly population.

They really need to let all the education folk know how and when before it filters down to parents. We will not get much warning so be prepared.

Herd immunity is based on terrible science. It won't work. It will make the disease endemic which will kill a smaller number of people every year.

Dh has a cold but doesn't know whether to self isolate or not. His work has said nothing. I hope the cobra meeting makes things clearer.

@ssd latest NHS advice (as of today) is that if your DH has a persistent cough or a fever he should stay at home.

Possible they are delaying the announcement until the stock market closes? Could be why Trump made the US announcement so late yesterday.

DD's school had an assembly today explaining the on line learning platform they'll all use if the school closes. It's Show My Homework but will be used in real time so they'll work a school day but at home. I do think it's only a matter of time.

I suspect some schools sending work home are just teachers hoping they will get the time off and sending work home just in case.

We had an email in North Essex saying they have not been put on alert to close and have no plans to close. Just this afternoon.

Well they would have trouble doing virtual learning here as my kids won't be home since I have to work.
