Is it going to be drastic changes? Or just 'work at home if you can'?

OP posts:
justasking111 · 12/03/2020 15:16

I have one DC at uni. they are saying that they cannot close, too many international students who have nowhere to go. Whereas primary and secondary education there are few overseas students. What they can consider is students working remotely. Lectures delivered electronically.

justasking111 · 12/03/2020 15:17

Well that cobra meeting did not take long. I suspect decisions were made previously and ratified at the meeting.

Savemefromthis4 · 12/03/2020 15:18

I bet they already know because of the way everyone is saying they don't think schools will close yet.

ashtyler · 12/03/2020 15:19

My son just got home (year 7) and has been sent home with all his books in case the school is closed...

ashtyler · 12/03/2020 15:20

And after school club cancelled due to emergency staff meeting

3littlemincemeatpies · 12/03/2020 15:21

Our school seems blissfully unaware, zero com’s other than a payment reminder for a school trip next week!! 😬

Wtfdoipick · 12/03/2020 15:24

we got an interestingly worded text at about 12 today confirming the school was open up till today, didn't say anything about tomorrow though. Presumably a lot of parents are keeping children at home, it has been quieter in a morning

steppemum · 12/03/2020 15:24

Also if A level students sat exams later and the unis took in the first years in January rather than September that would help in so many ways. No more rushing the day the A level results came out. Unis could see solid results rather than hopeful results. Students could set more money aside for college. It would sort out uni. education in one swoop. I know the unis will suffer when the money is a term later arriving but to be honest it makes sense.

never read such rubbish. So we would have thousands of 18 year olds hanging round for 7 months, from June to January, doing nothing, not enough part time jobs for them all, and hanging round waiting to go to uni.
Not a recipe for trouble at all.

TheRealMcKenna · 12/03/2020 15:25

School has just sent a random email asking if parents can ensure all pupils can log onto some ‘office’ thing when they get home.

Hellsbells123098 · 12/03/2020 15:26

Have I missed an announcement?

MetalDog · 12/03/2020 15:27

People think they know better than the chief medical officer? Biscuit

People think that the UK Chief Medical Officer isn’t the only expert in the world.

Exactly who are you supposed to believe when the experts don’t agree and other countries are clearly doing better than us at both stopping the spread and minimising deaths.

Who are you to say I shouldn’t believe Dr Bruce Aylward over Chris Whitty?

DoubleAction · 12/03/2020 15:28

Which other countries are "clearly doing better than us at stopping the spread and minimising deaths"?

RiftGibbon · 12/03/2020 15:29

Our school have sent a menu home to say that they are not closing... Yet.
Same with after school clubs/hobbies

neveradullmoment99 · 12/03/2020 15:30

We have just had an emaiil with contingency plan if they close!

KilljoysDutch · 12/03/2020 15:30

Nicola Sturgeon live on BBC news right now.

slipperywhensparticus · 12/03/2020 15:30

Nothing yet .......

AiryFairyMum · 12/03/2020 15:30

Hong Kong did brilliantly at stopping the spread.

Springsnake · 12/03/2020 15:31

Has anyone heard what will happen for definite with rest homes ..will we be allowed to visit relatives

alloutoffucks · 12/03/2020 15:32

Virtually every other country has taken more decisive action than us.

Anyway it doesn't matter now. The Government will carry on doing nothing until services would close anyway with lack of staff. Then they will announce closures....maybe.

And we will see the final reckoning when all this is over when we look at mortality rates between countries.

Springsnake · 12/03/2020 15:33

Why does Boris think he knows better than counties that are in the thick of it ,we should be following their example

twosoups1972 · 12/03/2020 15:33

@AiryFairyMum what did Hong Kong do and when? I wish we learnt from other countries.

DoubleAction · 12/03/2020 15:34

But has it made a difference alloutoffucks? Italy were the only country in Europe to refuse flights from China.

MetalDog · 12/03/2020 15:35

Which other countries are "clearly doing better than us at stopping the spread and minimising deaths"?

Hong Kong, Vietnam (until a British person reinfected them), Singapore (are an outstanding example) and even South Korea, who although they had a massive outbreak have worked super hard to turn it around so that the daily infection rate is lowering rather than continuing to rise exponentially.

VioletCharlotte · 12/03/2020 15:35

Nicola Sturgeon is saying now that schools and universities won't be closing yet.

Whatusernamecanihave · 12/03/2020 15:35

Schools not closing yet
