Is it going to be drastic changes? Or just 'work at home if you can'?

OP posts:

Also if it is a toss up between A levels for a whole generation or a few vulnerable people dying then I am afraid A levels should win out. Hmm

1forsorrow · 12/03/2020 13:38

But yeah, lets carry on thinking it's just the old and weak that will be affected. The old and the weak are also human beings.

caperberries · 12/03/2020 13:38

The best outcome today would be for BoJo & Cummings to come down with the virus

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/03/2020 13:39

Firstly, you dont really understand what a generation is, do you?

Secondly I'm guessing you arent including you and yours in those "few" who we could easily do without. In which case you might like to remember that this can kill people of all ages and not all of them are "vulnerable ".

It's also quite difficult to sit A levels with a high fever.

feelingverylazytoday · 12/03/2020 13:39

Treaclepie yes it can do if the people who recover develop immunity, which is expected to happen. It will take longer though.

Ffs, are people really this callous?

dameofdilemma · 12/03/2020 13:41

What if it’s a toss up between closing schools and having to close hospitals? Which scenario might result in fewer deaths (bearing in mind CV is only one possible illness)?

Or gas, electricity, water supply etc becoming at risk?
Or public health issues from bins not being collected?
Or Isolated and vulnerable people with no support not being able to buy essentials online (as there’s no one to pack it or deliver it)?

Not sure what the answer is but I can understand the person who has to make the decision wanting to consider all the potential consequences first.

Thinkingabout1t · 12/03/2020 13:42

Treaclepie19: Herd immunity doesn't really work without the vaccine does it.

No. But a great way of reducing overpopulation, so Boris can say he's doing something for the environment ....

[Starts singing "Always look on the bright side of life, dee-dum, dee-dumty-dumty-dum ...]

TheElementsOfMedical · 12/03/2020 13:42

Ffs, are people really this callous?

The evidence says...

Helpwithaversion · 12/03/2020 13:42

Herd immunity yet no vaccine ??? That’s not possible

yatapina · 12/03/2020 13:43

Usual inflammatory shit from Xenia because she and hers are above anything that happens to the general public.

Referring to a "few vulnerable people" as part of a toss up on whether we should let them live or not - I assume you don't discriminate on who you would prefer to die based on age, so all those kids are fair game too?

A Levels aren't worth the paper they're written on in comparison to someone losing a family member.

undead · 12/03/2020 13:43

I think they should let the illness run its course. We should continue business as usual. I don't see the need for mass hysteria. Each for themselves. We don't need government telling us what to do!

bemoreeverything · 12/03/2020 13:44

Fucking hell Shock

You seriously value an A level, which actually can be sat another time, over people LIVES Hmm

This is hands down the worst comment I have ever read on Mumsnet.

What a cunt ish comment

Treaclepie19 · 12/03/2020 13:44

@Thinkingabout1t I despair 😩

Helpwithaversion · 12/03/2020 13:45

Each for themselves

Don’t need to be a betting person to guess you and your family are in a low risk group

RedRed9 · 12/03/2020 13:46

I'm so confused has anything happened, has anything been said?

@FacingtheAbess nothing new from the UK government, no announcements yet.

We have learnt that @Xenia is an awful person. (But she’s hopefully realising that now and looking at giving herself a little shake, right Xenia?)

Flaxmeadow · 12/03/2020 13:46

The best outcome today would be for BoJo & Cummings to come down with the virus

What a ridiculous comment

Whatever your political leanings, it would not be a best outcome for any leader or member of their team, in any country, to come down with the virus.

Purplewhitelie · 12/03/2020 13:46

It would be cheaper to stop it now. Unless you are playing a much longer game in which case that is eugenics!

feelingverylazytoday · 12/03/2020 13:47

WTAF is the matter with you?

Helpwithaversion · 12/03/2020 13:47

Wasn’t long ago everything was all ‘be kind always’
Now we are literally at the opposite end of the spectrum deciding which lives just aren’t worth it and that a levels are more important !!!

speakout · 12/03/2020 13:47

undead yes we have not much chioce but to let the illness run its course. But we can limit the speed of the infection- which will mean the NHS has more of a chance to cope, food distribution etc can keep up with demands.
We are in an effect minimisation setting now.

Porcupineinwaiting · 12/03/2020 13:47

Yes undead but a few days ago you were telling us how you didnt care if you lived or died and most of us do, you see? Hmm

Squashpocket · 12/03/2020 13:47

Herd immunity is possible without vaccine, it just means that the immunity is acquired through catching the virus and recovering, rather than through immunisation.

Unfortunately the reality of that is that many, many people will die, rather than recovering, which, you would think it goes without saying, is barbaric.

Purplewhitelie · 12/03/2020 13:48

Poor NHS workers. God bless you in all this.

NewYearNewTwatName · 12/03/2020 13:48
