Disneyland Paris in April

libbylove · 11/03/2020 22:19

Going to spend two nights in Paris, then going to Disneyland Paris via Chunnel for four days in early April and and then a nearby Centerparcs style thing nearby for four days afterwards. Travelling with my husband and four year old child... Or am I? Discuss.

Pretty depressed about this whole thing tbh

Personally I’d be cancelling the trip.

libbylove · 11/03/2020 22:24

The thing is, I feel like Coronavirus is being billed as a cold there's no vaccine for. None of us are at risk and I feel like we're going to all catch it anyway so who cares? By that point everyone will have it, both here and in France.

But also, my friend just killed himself (with two very small children) and I'm working away every single week and we haven't had a holiday in years and I just need a damn holiday argh

I’m also due to go with my kids. I can’t just cancel because we wouldn’t get refunded for the flights or hotel or park tickets. We are planning to go but wonder if Disney will be closed or flights cancelled?

mrjellyisnotscary · 11/03/2020 23:32

Read up about the virus, make a decision. Sounds like you've made it anyway.
Will everything be open?
It's not just a cold. But you can research that for yourself.

SubjectMatterExpert · 12/03/2020 00:25

Do you not feel any responsibility to reduce the spread to protect people who ARE vulnerable?

Nquartz · 12/03/2020 06:20

My friend is booked to go to DLP at May half term, they're going unless told otherwise.

She's concerned about getting stuck there or being quarantined when they get back but doesn't want to lose money.

BillyAndTheSillies · 12/03/2020 07:20

I got back yesterday. The parks were spotless, I don't think I've ever seen so many cleaners in one place before.

President Macron is apparently making an announcement today at 7pm UK time. The decision not to travel may be made for you.

libbylove · 12/03/2020 08:21

@SubjectMatterExpert I'm more than happy to quarantine for as long as necessary and to take all the most serious precautions - we just very desperately need a holiday.

It's not even about the money. I've gone into further credit card debt for this, because I'm extremely burnt out from months of travelling away for 2-4 nights a week, and lack of sleep. I know a lot of people have it a lot worse than me re: work, but I'm severely anxious and my epilepsy has started reoccurring after 18 months without seizures. We all need a rest, but you're all right - it looks like we won't get one.

I think the decision will be made for you soon. This is going to peak in April.

Bluewater1 · 12/03/2020 08:25

@libbylove
I'm really sorry to hear about your friend Flowers

Bluewater1 · 12/03/2020 08:27

We also have a holiday planned for May. We have decided that we will not cancel but wait to see if the place closes (am starting to feel that is quite likely).

IrishMamaMia · 12/03/2020 08:35

Thanks for that info about Macron @BillyAndtheSillies I'm due to travel to France next week but I'm cancelling. Don't want to get ill there or have problems getting back, getting stuck there could be expenses. I am really disappointed, was going to be our annual holiday. France declared 500 cases yesterday though, I don't think I'd even enjoy the trip with all the worry. Wait until a week or two before or whenever your cancellation policy is and make a decision then.

florababy84 · 12/03/2020 08:37

The Hong Kong and Shanghai parks have been closed for weeks. I think they'll strongly consider closing DL Paris. Don't cancel anything yourself, wait till they close and offer refunds or rebooking.

themental · 12/03/2020 08:42

We are due to go for four days on Monday morning.

Just waiting to hear if there will be a travel ban / closure.

I'm desperately hoping Macron announces it tonight.

Worried it will close on the first / second day and we won't be entitled to a refund but neither will we get a holiday. So in that sense I'd rather they just shut it down.

They've already cancelled lots of character meets and there are rumours the fireworks and parades are stopping.

I also have Prague booked for end of April, and like this trip I'll be going unless it's not possible to go. 🤷🏻‍♀️

speakout · 12/03/2020 08:44

Disneyland will be closed in April.

You won't have to make the decision.

Hulahoopqueen · 12/03/2020 08:45

I’m heading over on Monday and leaving Tuesday night - flights and hotel have been booked separately (my sister and I have annual passes) so hopefully if the parks are closed it will be in line with national blocking (flights cancelled etc). They’ve confirmed today that fireworks and parades are cancelled until April

speakout · 12/03/2020 08:47

Three actors at Disney have tested positive for the virus. The operators have mounting pressure to close the park.

Butterymuffin · 12/03/2020 08:47

Yes that's a good point. You'll gain nothing by cancelling now but if DLP closes or travel is restricted you'll probably get to rebook.

Sammysquiz · 12/03/2020 08:48

It isn’t just a cold!!
We all need to take responsibility in trying to stop the spread. I know it’s shit, but everybody’s having to cancel things they were looking forward to.

ScrumptiousBears · 12/03/2020 08:48

We are in a similar position. Booked to go to DLP on 5th April via Eurostar. We are undecided. Apparently DLP are willing to change the booking but Eurostar are not so friendly about it.

I suppose we are hoping for a ban on travel so we are covered by insurance and don't need to make the decision ourselves.

Nicolanomore24 · 12/03/2020 08:48

I would still go, I wouldn’t give it a second thought. With a bit of luck the parks won’t be as busy because loads of people buying into the panic won’t go!

SwearyMaclairy · 12/03/2020 08:52

@speakout do you have inside info? We are due to go on 3 April. I am disappointed that it looks very likely that we won’t be able to go, but thankfully we hadn’t told our DC so at least they won’t be disappointed too.

ScrumptiousBears · 12/03/2020 08:55

Oh and parts of DLP are cancelled like breakfast/dinner with princesses won't be happening for the foreseeable future. I wasn't planning on going again so would be a shame to miss out on certain bits my DC would have loved to have done.

At least my DC don't k or they are going so they won't be disappointed.

NCTDN · 12/03/2020 08:59

I think it's hard to get a balance between the hype and the actual facts. Will be watching to see what is said tonight then.

flooredbored · 12/03/2020 10:17

We are in the same position, due to go at the beginning of April. We are going to wait and see. Hoping the decision will be made for us and we can claim insurance or be rebooked for another time.
