Wearing disposable gloves

Something I’ve been thinking over the past couple of days....why aren’t we being advised to wear latex/plastic disposable gloves when out and about?
Surely this would be as good if not better than continuous hand washing or sanitising. For instance, someone travelling on public transport could wear them and then dispose of them when they got to their destination.
Even if you used several pairs a day, your hands would be protected and you would also be less likely to touch your face with plastic gloves on.
Am I missing something as to why this isn’t being advised?

How are gloves safer? It’s simply not true. It is difficult to wash gloves as effectively as hands. It involves touching contaminated gloves when they are removed. They increase risk of transmitting the virus, not reduce it.

HCPs rarely remove gloves without contamination but should be washing their hands afterwards anyway.

They'd sell out faster than hand gel and there would be a shortage in supply for those who really need them.

As a HCP who gets through 30+ pairs of gloves on a quiet day it is very difficult to avoid touching your face. In surgery we have to take gloves off to use computer, open drawers, open doors etc. Repeated washing of gloves using soap and alcohol rub just causes chemical damage to gloves rendering them useless.
Just concentrate on washing hands and not touching your face after you’ve touched surfaces/door handles/people. I used to visualise picking up poo and I then automatically avoid using my hands to touch anything! After years of working I can’t stand having any residue on my hands and wash my hands after touching any surface I haven’t personally disinfected.

Agree that potentially useful as a reminder not to touch face and being able to remove gloves before (eg) eating.

Think I might start wearing my marigolds on the tube.

@Justanotherworkingmom

You could colour coordinate your marigolds with your outfit 😊

Ooh - exciting. I think you could have just come up with a new Corona related fashion trend. (Goes off to find if I still have a box of fetching lilac disposable gloves....)

multiple times, I've seen people pumping gas into their vehicles and driving off with the gloves still on their hands. Unless you go back and disinfect the credit/debit card when you entered your pin, your door handle, gas cap, steering wheel, shift knob, phone, etc... you are open to contamination. everything your gloves came into contact with is now on your personal belongs or vehicle. The gloves at that point become useless

I bought a pack of plastic disposable gloves, I thought it was a sensible idea.

I'm stuck indoors but every time DH needs to go for supplies he wears a pair, then disposes of them before he comes in the door. He then washes his hands.

I'll be doing the same once I can leave the flat again.

I also considered the marigolds, it's nice to see somebody else thought of that too Grin
