All the jobs I could get done while in isolation... (lighthearted)

Self-isolation strikes me as the ideal time to get all those niggling little jobs done around the house and garden that I never have time for. So, if there is a lock down and I have a week of isolation at home I'm planning to sort my kitchen cupboards out, declutter my toiletries, do a big tidy of the garden and sort the children's outgrown clothes. My to-do list won't know what's hit it!

I was thinking the same this morning, might get those windows cleaned finally!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/03/2020 10:38

Finally a coronavirus thread I can get down with!
I need to bleach my window frames as the winter has made them mouldy
I need to shampoo my carpets
I have mountains of stuff in the loft which needs sorted
If it got really bad I could probably gloss my woodwork

I could actually do with a few weeks off work to do all this, plus if Dh was off too we could really get some jobs done

youareatwatadmitit · 11/03/2020 10:42

Yeah, I've bought a few bits of kit so I could do the diy needed, if I'm at a loose end!

boobashka · 11/03/2020 10:42

Yes @thenewaveragebear1983.... the loft.... an area untouched by human hand since we moved in... might need a couple of weeks of self isolation to sort that out...

OP posts:
boobashka · 11/03/2020 10:43

I think I'd need to do something... a week at home doing nothing sounds nice but I'd soon lose the will unless I had an action plan...

MissFitton · 11/03/2020 10:45

I've already written a 'lockdown list' of jobs to do. I'm trying to see the positives as I'm self employed so fucked financially if I can't work. At least my garden will finally be tidy!

Peachypips78 · 11/03/2020 10:46

Hmmmm sand and decorate hall, paint chest of drawers, put pictures up, shelf up... man it would be an up side!

Happy0 · 11/03/2020 10:46

Ha! Love this lighthearted thread and I thought the same this morning as I was making my way to work at 5.40am. Oooh just a lie in would be nice and to paint the kitchen

FlabberMcBlasted · 11/03/2020 10:47

Will I have children with me too? This severely impacts my ability to do anything other than pull my own hair out whilst rocking and sobbing into a wine glass...

SoupDragon · 11/03/2020 10:48

I was also thinking that. Until I realised that "self isolation" was pretty much like my day to day life and my To Do list hasn't shrunk 😂

sewingsinger · 11/03/2020 10:49

Oh yes, love this thread! - repaint bathroom, strip slate floors and re-seal, plant seeds. Mind you I only work part-time so could get this done anyway rather than just posting on Mumsnet [grin

APurpleSquirrel · 11/03/2020 10:50

I would paint the downstairs bathroom; do final touch-ups to the hall; deep clean the house; clean windows; tidy and clear garden ready for summer; pressure wash the patio; sort and tag up DCs old clothes & toys ready to sell; tidy/rearrange DCs bedrooms; sort kitchen cupboards; defrost freezer; clean fridge; sort out DCs craft corner; paint garage and front door; treat fence; start planting veg seeds for summer; venture into the loft and garage and se if we can sort stuff to sell/donate and make room for more crap.
However, we'd be hampered by DC who would likely be home too, but we could do some stuff.

Comefromaway · 11/03/2020 10:52

I've just moved house - there is so much to do.

sudocremanglaise · 11/03/2020 10:52

Grin I figure I’ll use the time to spring clean if needed (assuming I’m isolating for ‘lockdown’ type reasons and not horribly ill!). I’ve bought some vacuum bags and storage stuff to reorganise the place. I’ve also decided we’ll play a lot of video games if the school is shut (we will read and do maths and stuff but DC1 and I have a house in Minecraft that I think could do with an extension...).

boobashka · 11/03/2020 10:54

@sewingsinger Me too Grin - I work part time too, so really no excuse not to have all these jobs done and have a totally organised house but I find that the prospect of a Coronavirus lock down has given me the ideal excuse to put loads of jobs off. Well, no point in tidying out that cupboard now... I'll just save that for the lock down... Blush

Yes the presence of DH and DC might put paid to some of my plans....

Littleshortcake · 11/03/2020 10:57

Aha.. my kind of thread. I plan to paint a spare bedroom (white- I found a paint that goes on pink until it dries- genius)

I have decluttered most of the house but I could really deep clean and label boxes etc. I have scrapbooks bought and I could print (online) tonnes of photos.

bellinisurge · 11/03/2020 10:57

Sewing plans. Many of them. And gardening. Also many.

Clutterbugsmum · 11/03/2020 11:02

@boobashka you need to work on lists for them too. So they can help.

I have a list of jobs I need to do but can't be arsed to do.

DH will be able to work from home so his list is only short.

Sort and tidy Shed
Sort and tidy Loft
Sort and tidy his office and store cupboard next to his office.

And as for DC they will be going through their bedrooms and getting rid of any and all toys they no longer want or play with and the same with their clothes. And we will do a deep clean of all their rooms.

afrikat · 11/03/2020 11:05

We are in the process of moving house. In desperately hoping we can get moved then any lock down / isolation can be spent sorting new place out!

Thistlepicker · 11/03/2020 11:06

I’ve been trying to work out scenarios where I have to be quarantined away from everyone else but still have fast WiFi, room service and Hilary Mantel.

boobashka · 11/03/2020 11:08

@Clutterbugsmum You're absolutely right. Lists all round. DH's garage is a bomb site. I'll start thinking about other things I can add to his list.... Grin

Might it be prudent to hire a skip for the duration of the isolation..?!

MrsMcKitty · 11/03/2020 11:11

@FlabberMcBlasted I remember those days! Although tbh as my children are teens now we all self isolate most of the time. Me in the living room with terrestrial tv, alcoholic beverage and snacks and them in respective bedrooms with netflix, spot treatments, nail varnish, cotton wool pads and unbelievably messy art homework.
Liking this thread!

Clangus00 · 11/03/2020 11:19

Me too!
I had a workman in earlier who was coughing all over my kitchen & I was thinking "great, my DH & DD will have to go to my parents& I can have the house to myself for a fortnight".

boobashka · 11/03/2020 11:20

I'm sure I could find time for some Tv, snacks, alcohol and all kinds of other self-indulgence too @MrsMcKitty ! In fact, unless I am strict with myself and can see me emerging from the isolation period a stone heavier and even further behind with my jobs list, having spent it ensconced on the sofa in front of Netflix ...... Wine Cake Biscuit Brew Grin
