All the jobs I could get done while in isolation... (lighthearted)

Self-isolation strikes me as the ideal time to get all those niggling little jobs done around the house and garden that I never have time for. So, if there is a lock down and I have a week of isolation at home I'm planning to sort my kitchen cupboards out, declutter my toiletries, do a big tidy of the garden and sort the children's outgrown clothes. My to-do list won't know what's hit it!

Grin Getting back to jobs I could get sorted Sort photos and make up albums. Finish various craft projects. Would need to self isolate for a few years really. Clear out under stairs cupboard.
WellTidy · 11/03/2020 11:26

DH will be painting the kitchen and bathroom and touching up some of the other rooms (he has, shall we say, limited knowledge of this, but that is what will be happening!) and I will be bagging up all of my clothes in categories according to what I need to weigh so that they fit, and putting them into the loft for when I'm skinny. Which I am unlikely to be as I won't be able to go out and exercise and buy fresh fruit and veg and salad, and the chocolate stash will be too tempting.

WellTidy · 11/03/2020 11:28

A friend was saying yesterday that she plans to have a spring clean of one room a day, and spend the rest of the time watching Netflix. Which seems achievable!

NeedToKnow101 · 11/03/2020 11:33

I've been thinking about this. I'll carry on decluttering, getting more brutal everyday. Maybe paint. Do some art.
(Probably won't carry on with my memoir but with I could).

Seventyone72seventy3 · 11/03/2020 11:34

I am in lockdown and so far I have -

  • sorted out the kitchen cupboards
  • finished off a photoalbum
  • watched loads of Netflix
  • read a bit
-prepared and done my lessons (I am a teacher)

But by far the most time has been spent trying to get kids to do really boring homework which they don't want to do! I wish the teachers would just stop sending it and let us homeschool however we want (although admittedly this would probably lead to a lot of Netflix!) If you want to do painting , make sure you get the paint bought first!

Oooh I agree. What with working full time, having 2 DC under 6 and a man child who doesn't pull his weight as much as I think he should my house often a tip. The only good thing about this is having time to sort everything.

@Seventyone72seventy3

Where are you based to be on "lock down"

(if you don't mind me asking!)

DelurkingAJ · 11/03/2020 13:03

I was planning to persuade the DCs to build all the Lego so we can find the missing pieces. DH may veto this from a space perspective.

Full clear out of DC’s rooms and the garage would be manageable though.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 11/03/2020 13:03

Northern Italy.

BiddyPop · 11/03/2020 13:09

The windows are all filthy after the winter.
We need to paint the bathroom ceiling.
DD's room has been "on the list" for redoing for 2 years - it needs a wardrobe, fresh paint throughout, and better storage solutions for clothes and study stuff.
I need to oil the wooden worktop in the kitchen - badly!
I have no seeds sown yet for summer veg....not even dug over the bed.
Lots of decluttering to do around the house.

All quite apart from the more "fun" stuff (reading some of the wobbly stack of unread books, sewing to use up some of my stash, finishing knitting the scarf I started last winter, finishing at least 1 of my cross-stitch projects on the go, writing a few letters, making cards for some birthdays coming up, watching the episodes of Madam Secretary that are languishing on the Sky box unwatched.....).

I'll actually spend the days working, cooking for the family, and dealing with the cleaning/laundry issues I suspect.....

boobashka · 11/03/2020 13:16

....reorganising the freezer... cooking a range of delicious and nutritious meals to fill it up.... putting hems up in a variety of clothing.... reupholster a chair...... I will discover my inner domestic goddess.... Halo

DH has just bought at reduced Plum Climbing Dome from Aldi which I saw yesterday - it'll be an early birthday present for DS who is obsessed with climbing on everything at the moment & might keep him busy whilst we tackle the garden.

Kahlua4me · 11/03/2020 21:28

I have been thinking about this today too 😊.

  1. Sort out and clear out loft
  2. Ditto the garage
  3. Might buy some paint in preparation and change the colour of the kitchen
  4. Most importantly I am planning on spending the 2 weeks training my dog to stop barking! He goes mad when people arrive or the doorbell rings so I thought we could spend the time training him to stop barking on command.....

Dd thinks we will spend the whole time playing board games and was very miffed when I told her that her school have said they will be sending lots of homework and are expecting everybody to study for at least 4 hours a day!

Oxyiz · 11/03/2020 21:53

I'd just have to keep working from home (assuming electricity was working and I wasn't ill, etc etc). But at least it would be quiet and I'd get lots done.

bellinisurge · 12/03/2020 06:11

Just had this pop up on my YouTube app. For crocheting posters. Mind. Blown. As people younger than me say.

SoupDragon · 12/03/2020 07:11

I think there is a charity who make sleeping mats for the homeless out of "plarn". I can't remember anything more about it though, unfortunately! It could have been in the USA.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 12/03/2020 07:25

Oòh yes. I like this idea (my anxiety is sky high fab distraction!)

However if on lockdown I assume we will have to have bought paint/garden tools etc first so maybe we need to do that this weekend??? I wonder if there will be an u expected surge in sales like they do for spring bank holiday weekends. First it was the loo roll and sanitiser - now its he paint and brushes!

I had been thinking movies with the kids (must order popcorn) and reading. Hadnt actually thought we could do aomething 🤣

Blackbear19 · 12/03/2020 07:34

The garage could do with a clear out.
The garden needs some TLC.
Photos need sorted.

And actually some proper time with the kids.

Reality I don't think they will close schools lightly. More likely to stop inter school gatherings first, so kids clubs, sports competitions etc.
