Came back from Italy 3 weeks ago.

He's got a cold/cough.

111 said he was fine to go a week ago but is the advice changing?

He's Yr 10 so I feel it's a harder decision than a primary aged child

WDYT?

Well that’s a rubbish attitude. You ask here if there could be a problem but when told to follow NHS advice you won’t.
Let’s hope it is just a cold then eh? Or those like me with suppressed immune systems will be put at risk because you don’t like how they talk to you. Shock

Why do people feel they need to be so utterly rude and aggressive on here every time the CV is mentioned? Yes we are all scared but there's no excuse for it. You'll probably survive it but no one will like you any more.

I was coming on to ask similar. I'm no longer sure what the advice is but DS has a nasty cough and is snotty. No fever. The only place he could have picked anything up (imho) is the football match he went to last Monday. But I feel really silly even contemplating ringing 111 and wasting their time when every man and their dog is doing the same.

I'm not looking for an answer here, just sharing for discussion. I'll have a look at what PHE says and report back.

OP please tell me you didn't send him in today?

The 111 website 111.nhs.uk/service/COVID-19/ has a checker service which goes through a list of areas that have been affected. It says to click 'yes' only if you've travelled in the regions affected (including norther Italy) in the last two weeks. So if your son's trip was three weeks ago and he doesn't have a fever you would be advised to carry on as normal.

My son's school said the same - no fever means he's ok to come in.

Jerseygaly · 10/03/2020 09:49

Keep him off.
The temp comes first then maybe 7d later a cough.

I havent sent mine as i was going to keep off anyway to avoid catching it.

What needs to be clearer is how long from onset you are contagious. Is it till the end of the cough??

SadThing · 10/03/2020 09:54

I phoned his school and they said send him in so I did. He wanted to go in too as he felt fine apart from cough.

It's incredibly hard to work out what the advice is in any individual's situation!
