Came back from Italy 3 weeks ago.

He's got a cold/cough.

111 said he was fine to go a week ago but is the advice changing?

He's Yr 10 so I feel it's a harder decision than a primary aged child

WDYT?

Has he been going to school up till now?

SadThing · 10/03/2020 07:17

Yes. 3 weeks ago when he came back the whole thing wasn't on my radar and they were only saying to be wary if you returned frim North Italy, not South.

I rang 111 and told them he was ill a few days after returning, latbargic, temp then developed a cough a week later.

They weren't interested. Basically told me it's fine and practically put the phone down.

Call 111 again?
Although the NHS website seems to suggest that of symptoms develop they will do so within 14 days.

puds11 · 10/03/2020 07:23

Really? It wasn’t on your radar?

I’d say if he’s been to a corona virus area and now has symptoms then yes he should self isolate. Have you called 111 again?

SadThing · 10/03/2020 07:28

But IT WASN'T a corona area when he went. In fact Rome still isn't on the list of areas to avoid.

OP posts:
puds11 · 10/03/2020 07:29

But is it now 🤦‍♀️

middleager · 10/03/2020 07:30

Yes and call 111.

There is a student at Rugby School who went away skiing to N Italy at half term and has only just shown symptoms after 14 days and tested positive.

My son went skiing at half term in N Italy too (y9) and keeping an eye on him. If he had any symptoms we would self isolate and call 111.

Helenj1977 · 10/03/2020 07:30

Yes. Keep him off and tell the school why. Very unlikely he has it but better to be safe. 3 weeks ago would have been when it really started to move?

Helenj1977 · 10/03/2020 07:32

Is there a drive through test area near you? I fear 111 are putting people off of being tested to keep figures down Until Boris's social calendar is empty.

middleager · 10/03/2020 07:32

That student didn't go to an infected zone (at the time).

But travellers do use airports.

middleager · 10/03/2020 07:34

It's a myth that you can't test positive after 14 days as this case proves.

Please call 111 and cite this example if necessary:

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 07:34

Yeh don’t worry about my kids with asthma and my heart problem. Fgs.

Grufallosfriends · 10/03/2020 07:37

Incubation periods have been longer than 14 days in some cases. So yes, keep him off school.

SadThing · 10/03/2020 07:39

Excuse me, I took advice from the NHS website, the public health advisor on 111 and the school who ALL said that there was NO risk to it being corona as it was the completly wrong religion.

DS was off school when he felt ill. I thought it was jet lag. 111 said it was fine for him to go back to school when the half term finished. He felt FINE then.

A week ago he developed a cough.

I rang 111 TWICE and they said its just a normal cough, don't worry about it. Wrong region, would have shown up by now etc... He's fine to go to school.

So don't get mad at me for filling advice and sending him to school with nothing but a cough.

SadThing · 10/03/2020 07:40

REGION. not religion

Wolfiefan · 10/03/2020 07:41

Just a cough isn’t a symptom of the virus. Does he have a temperature too?
And you followed the advice at the time. I can’t see how anyone can criticise you for that. Confused

FoxEars · 10/03/2020 07:41

What a stupid question.

Of course you should keep him off

Take some responsibility and do the right thing, instead of posting on mumsnet.

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 07:42

Well yeh in 6 months time the government will have a lot of blood on their hands. I voted for them never again.

FamilyOfAliens · 10/03/2020 07:44

I’m not sure why you took advice from 111 previously but now you’re asking on Mumsnet? Surely just phone 111 again?

Pippioddstocking · 10/03/2020 07:45

OP, I do really feel for you. I work in the NHS and I have heard 111 give everyone different answers . It's frustrating that they are supposed to be in charge of implementing policy and screening yet it appears most people would get more coherent and sensible answers from their toddlers.
I would call them again.

SadThing · 10/03/2020 07:51

He doenst have a temp. He had one for 2 days 3 weeks ago.

He's been fine since but a cough

OP posts:
Jerseygaly · 10/03/2020 07:55

Im in similar situation.
Last sat dd1 got a low gradr temp
Sun temp lethargy
Mon temp little bit sick
Wed felt better
Thurs better
Fri bit snotty no cough
The snoty was rather thick but other than that

We have not been abroad but have been swimming 3 times in the week before she got ill and she was at preschool before ffor 15h when everyone returned from BH.
So im thinking someone came back from eu and sent kid back to nursery.

Anyway last night i started to feel like i have chills (so about 10 days after dd got ill).
I doubt nhs will care as we've not been abroad but there is community transmission now.
I think as soo many cases had fever it would have made sense to say isolate if you have a fever.

puds11 · 10/03/2020 07:58

Says on BBC this morning that even those with minor symptoms are being asked to stay off work.

puds11 · 10/03/2020 07:59

Sorry, could be asked to stay home. Hasn’t happened yet but that’s the next step.

SadThing · 10/03/2020 08:05

I'm not ringing 111 again, they honestly talk to you like you're a hysterical idiot
