No school, work. They haven't changed their advice even though this is spreading person to person here now.

seek some support for your anxiety.

Do fuck off with your patronising bullshit.

crazydiamond222 · 07/03/2020 09:20

The planning is for several waves of the virus with weeks/months in between. You may have to stay at home until a vaccine is developed and rolled out - 1 to 2 years....

muffin21 · 07/03/2020 09:22

@Dodie66 sky news said banning overs 70's and maybe even having empty stadiums is one of the measures they are considering nothings has been confirmed www.google.co.uk/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/coronavirus-premier-league-to-consider-empty-stadiums-and-over-70s-ban-11951506

MummaGiles · 07/03/2020 09:23

Also they are banning anybody over 70 from going to big events like football matches etc

No, they’re not. It’s one of many things under consideration. Practically, something like that will be impossible to police. The best they can do is strongly advise against attendance.

Dodie66 · 07/03/2020 09:23

Considering banning over 70s I should have said

inwood · 07/03/2020 09:23

I can't find anything confirming over 70s staying in at all, just considering and potentially

LightAsTheBreeze · 07/03/2020 09:31

Last week it was over 60s that were meant to avoid going out and crowds, maybe they realised that many of those were still working and probably included many still in the NHS, hence why it now appears to be age 70.

UntamedWisteria · 07/03/2020 09:36

they are banning anybody over 70 from going to big events like football matches etc

Scaremongering nonsense.

Are they going to ask everyone attending a football match to prove their age?

WatcherintheRye · 07/03/2020 09:38

"That may include advising against, or even a possible ban, on over-70s - the demographic considered to be at highest risk from the spread of COVID-19 - coming inside stadiums." From the Sky link above

How utterly ridiculous if this comes about - talk about a nanny state! There are many over 70s still working. Let people make their own risk/benefit analysis. I thought one positive outcome of the pension push back might be that people weren't pigeonholed as 'elderly' at 70.

Growingboys · 07/03/2020 09:39

It is NOT dangerous to babies @GinDrinker00

Honestly, people blame the media but hysterical fallacies like this on social media are far worse.

Calm the fuck down

LightAsTheBreeze · 07/03/2020 09:39

Maybe there will be signs up saying ‘Think 65’

UntamedWisteria · 07/03/2020 09:42

That article is a classic example of irresponsible news reporting (I'm an ex-journalist)

The Premier League is also considering other possible contingency plans.

Kelner added: "That may include advising against, or even a possible ban, on over-70s - the demographic considered to be at highest risk from the spread of COVID-19 - coming inside stadiums."

Unsourced - the reporter (Kelner) is speculating about what might be on the agenda of a meeting. That's all.

slipperywhensparticus · 07/03/2020 09:44

I know how you feel I was supposed to go out today to a sea life centre ive cancelled it because we dont feel well I'm in a risky group so I think I could have a better chance at fighting it off if I'm healthy I now feel like a complete wuss so we are going to the park instead

lettersbyowl · 07/03/2020 09:57

@itslateimsleeping I wasn't being patronising, I was being genuine. If someone is considering isolating themselves and their children despite having no symptoms and not having been in contact with anyone with the virus, I think they should get some support as they're clearly feeling very anxious. Having worked in MH for 10+ years, I think I have a right to suggest that. Have a lovely Saturday!

HairyFloppins · 07/03/2020 10:08

How are all these people affording to keep all their kids off school?

There is a group on Facebook and loads of them have already took their kids out and and they are all staying at home now.

Yet they are all expecting their shopping delivered and other people to work etc.

High risk groups I understand though.

Aragog · 07/03/2020 10:31

I don't think it's that children can't get it, nor that no child has been diagnosed with it.
However, as yet, there are no fatalities in the under 10s age group, and only 0.2% in both the 10-19 and the next age group up. That's not the same as children not getting it at all.

LazyFace · 07/03/2020 10:49

OP, with health issues, I understand. My husband has been allowed to wfh as he's got 3 conditions that put him in the high risk group. That'll come handy when school shut.
I'm starting a new job next week and can still bring anything home, so can the children but we can't go into a lockdown for a year.

Jesus wept it always turns into a bunfight doesn't it?

For what it's worth it seems extremely foolish to keep your kids home from school.

Awkward1 · 07/03/2020 23:12

I'm keeping them home from Monday because

I have asthma
Dc has nasty cough after viruses
It is like sars and could permanently damage lungs
I'm concerned about now getting it at the peak - if I get it now I could be ok. May need o2 or hospitalization but likely survive. If I get it at peak I will be left to manage at home. Having asthma I know how awful it would feel.
40% of people were requiring hospitalization....
If you look -how many uk cases are recovered?...
If they take at least 3w to either die or whatever.
In China 30k are not recovered.

Brown76 · 07/03/2020 23:42

OP I'm not sure what your health issues are but could you check the National body that supports people with said condition and see what their specific advice is? And talk to your doctor if you have concerns relating to your specific health issues?

MoltonSilver · 08/03/2020 00:05

I fully expect to have to stay in the house for a few weeks as some point but I want to continue as normal for as long as I can. The sooner you stay home the sooner you crack up. If you take kids out of school now when will you send them back? This could do in for months. They might not be back until after the summer holidays.

TabbyMumz · 08/03/2020 09:50

Ridiculous to stay off now, absolutely noone near me has it.

PutYourBackIntoit · 08/03/2020 10:40

We're in a quandary as a family.
DD last night woke me up with her coughing. Went in to see her, and she was like a little oven. Temp of 38.9, was in pain with her throat. 2 doses of Calpol later and she seems fine. No coughing, only slight temp.
I called 111 to seek advice. She has not been to an affected country or been in contact with a known case so cannot be tested....but her teacher is off with symptoms. She has also not been tested as she has also not been knowingly in contact with a diagnosed case.
I realise the likelihood us overwhelmingly just another bug.

I'm not worried about my DD, she seems fine. I am worried about my Ds who has been hospitalised twice with asthma after a sniffle, and I have a reduced immune system too. It would greatly put my mind at rest that we are doing the right thing (i e continuing with life as normal) if my DD could just be tested.
111 instead booked a GP appointment for her, which we have cancelled as we think it's irresponsible (just in case) and for her mild symptoms, controlled with Calpol, not necessary.

I'm going to keep her at home tomorrow, and WFH as much as I can (I work in a hospital), non clinical.

I suppose what I'm saying is I do wonder if community transmission is occurring, but we don't know because there is only testing available for specific groups.
