No school, work. They haven't changed their advice even though this is spreading person to person here now.

For potentially 6 months or more.

This virus may never go away and a vaccine is a long way off assuming they manage it at all.

Random18 · 07/03/2020 07:11

That is more likely to kill me than Corina virus

Patchworksack · 07/03/2020 07:16

For how long?

Apolloanddaphne · 07/03/2020 07:18

Seems like a ridiculous idea to me. How long do you plan to stay at home for? A week? Month? Year? How will you get food and any other supplies? I think I would go insane and I spend a lot of time on my own at home. I plan to lead my life as normal.

Helenj1977 · 07/03/2020 07:19

Until it starts spreading so quickly. I have heath issues and 3 young children. I'm worried about them if I end up getting it

I have been wondering this as my husband is at risk category- but for how long?? How will it affect the children, mentally, not as concerned for their education as they are young and I can continue with that. It’s difficult to know what to do at this stage.

lettersbyowl · 07/03/2020 07:22

It takes a while for the tests to be processed. You will continue to see the numbers climb for some time yet. That doesn't mean there's more people with covid 19 than yesterday, it just means we have more results back. You are still more likely to be involved in an RTC than you are to catch it. Please do not isolate yourself and your children for no reason, and seek some support for your anxiety.

iVampire · 07/03/2020 07:24

I’ve just had a ‘wake up call’ that I didn’t like.

A friend has just cancelled meeting up, because they may well have come into contact with case/s. They’re not required to self-isolate, but cancelled on me as they know I have underlying health condition

Usually I don’t think about it - day to day I’m well, monitoring tests are fine, I just don’t have to think about it.

Can’t be cross with the friend - they don’t want to be the one who puts me in ITU

TabbyMumz · 07/03/2020 07:33

Are there any cases near you? If not, why wouldnt you continue as normal?

daisypond · 07/03/2020 07:36

But what about work?

JudyCoolibar · 07/03/2020 07:43

Don't keep your children off school. This virus is not dangerous to children.

GinDrinker00 · 07/03/2020 08:36

It is dangerous to children! Babies as young as 4 months have had symptoms. And what about the children with low immune systems? Don’t be so ridiculous.

Fairylea · 07/03/2020 08:42

Don’t be daft. For most people it’s like a bad case of flu. And I say that as someone with autoimmune issues (lots of them and asthma). You can’t stop living your life, potentially this is going to be around forever. Most children have a very mild form of it IF they do get it. Don’t let the media scare the crap out of you. Look at the figures.

daisypond · 07/03/2020 08:46

@GinDrinker00
That is ridiculous. Children are the least vulnerable. It doesn’t mean they won’t get it, but their symptoms are likely to be very mild, or unnoticed.

WwfLeopard · 07/03/2020 08:55

My ds is in the “at risk” group, I plan on keeping him home what ever the guidance is, once we’re in/approaching the peak. Assuming he doesn’t already have it by then. All we can do until then is wash hands, try and stay out of crowds.

BunsyGirl · 07/03/2020 09:00

Unless your child is in a “at risk” group there is no reason to keep them off school. Much more sensible for the over 70’s to stay at home as they are the ones who are risk and most of them don’t work so it is easier for them to keep away from people.

TabbyMumz · 07/03/2020 09:00

I heard that no children under 10 have had it. Something to do with thrir lungs not being fully developed yet.

Dodie66 · 07/03/2020 09:05

They are advising people over 70 to stay in and not go out

inwood · 07/03/2020 09:06

Really @Dodie66 where was that? DF is over 70 with underlying conditions but I haven't seen that yet?

Dodie66 · 07/03/2020 09:13

It was just on sky news

Dodie66 · 07/03/2020 09:14

Also they are banning anybody over 70 from going to big events like football matches etc

Janemarpling · 07/03/2020 09:16

Does it actually say for over 70s to stay in? I need to show my parents as they will not believe me.

TARSCOUT · 07/03/2020 09:17

I have pre existing medical conditions (crohns and cancer). I predict I will be the last one standing as.all the self isolates will have driven themselves crazy and knocked each other off for the last roll of toilet paper.

thedevilinablackdress · 07/03/2020 09:18

An over 70s 'ban' is something the football premier league is considering according to Sky News.
Nothing about them not leaving the house!!!

Fairylea · 07/03/2020 09:20

They aren’t banning over 70s from anything. Or telling them to stay in. Just checked sky news and it says “considering” doing that- which means it probably won’t happen.
