Coronavirus - has your employer implemented procedure and guidelines?

I've been in SLT meetings most of the day as I work in a large organisation and over half of our workforce are customer facing.

Recently we found out by chance a "customer" was in self isolation and told a visiting colleague by chance Hmm adding the Government announcing the second phase of their response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Its been a LONG hard day, and there is still more to be done over the weekend to implement our policy, procedure and guidelines to ALL involved in our organisation.

We don't even have hand soap in the kitchen so I very much doubt it!

dingdang · 06/03/2020 18:04

We have had all business travel cancelled, and I suspect a ban on public transport use will follow

TheMammothHunters · 06/03/2020 18:07

Yes but I work in healthcare so guidelines came out from NHS/ PHE.
We’ll still get it.

cologne4711 · 06/03/2020 18:12

I'm assuming you are not in a big city?

Dacaday · 06/03/2020 18:14

Yes , daily updates, large corporate. Also had guidance from our professional body regarding duty v Corona, they're very supportive and helpful.

Wonkydonkey44 · 06/03/2020 18:16

We’ve had a travel plan implemented today, no travelling to meetings etc.

boredboredboredboredbored · 06/03/2020 18:16

Yes but I'm a nurse working for a large community nhs trust. I was in a meeting today with one of our GP practices and they were having meetings this afternoon about how they are going to move forward. I think we will be cancelling all non absolutely essential face to face contacts, as will the GPs I was speaking to.

They are currently looking for volunteers to do the testing at a persons house, there aren't many takers so far....

Mintjulia · 06/03/2020 18:19

Sanitiser on every desk. Told to wash hands regularly, carry on as normal unless told to do otherwise by a medical professional.

EekThreek · 06/03/2020 18:19

We have had a ban on international (business) travel, and advised to do other meetings by vc if possible to reduce other travel. We have also been told to take our laptops home every night in case they have to shut the office for any reason.

I work for a global ftse250 company, but our site is rural, at least 1.5hrs from the nearest big cities. They're taking it quite seriously, but one of our offices is in northern Italy so we have colleagues that are directly affected.

bbcessex · 06/03/2020 18:19

We've had all travel between offices / to conferences etc forbidden, and we are not allowed to hold seminars / client meetings.

To the PP who mentioned restricting public transport travel - is that likely for you?

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 06/03/2020 18:20

Yes, international corporate here. We've had frequent updates to policies and procedures since it reached the UK and there is a global response across the company too. International travel between offices is all but banned.

Depressedbywork · 06/03/2020 18:32

Small employer but meet the public. We already often wash hands. Now have wipes for the phones.

So far just been told that employer will pay (now obviously mandated but said before) for self isolation as well as actual illness. Also said they know that some may have to take time off if schools close or relatives in isolation need support.

I’m really happy with the stance they have taken.

WanderingMilly · 06/03/2020 18:33

Well, yes and no.
Some things are good : notices up, sanitiser has appeared in corridors, offices and outside dining areas. All told to wash our hands.

BUT: cleaners not told to do anything different. They're still using cloths which have washed the toilet to also clean the sink (disgusting!!) and no-one is disinfecting door handles, 'phones etc. They laugh when I use sanitiser on the 'phone and computer keyboard (shared desk areas).
And I also saw the ladies who set out the tea for some 300 guests were holding the tea cups by the parts where people will put their mouths. This was after they'd fiddled about with all sorts of other things, pushed the trolley into the room etc., etc., with no hand cleaning before touching the cups.

I suppose I'm being too particular but I think more care should be taken....

MortyFide · 06/03/2020 18:40

My employer (small but listed company) is currently being terribly stoic and sensible - I'm a field based consultant but they haven't banned us from travel yet, although they have urged caution. We've had a few emails.

I suspect they are going to push us out on client visits more now, to try and ramp up the earnings before travel has to cease.

Mummoomoocow · 06/03/2020 18:43

Not a word from our head office! We're a big hospitality chain Hmm serving hundreds of tickets a day, think we're doomed

StinkyWizleteets · 06/03/2020 18:47

I’m in a university with lots of international students from high risk countries. All students (wherever they’re from) are filthy manky buggers with no sense of hygiene. There was vomit left in the disabled toilet sink last week. Few wash their hands after the loo. They all come in with their illnesses to share with their peers and staff. I have no doubt should one get it they wouldn’t self isolate and it would spread like wildfire.

The only students taking care are the international students from China and Korea who are more hygiene aware at the best of times. They really put the rest of us to shame.

StinkyWizleteets · 06/03/2020 18:48

Oops forgot to add management have not shared strategies and have only suggested staff and student keep up to date on government guidelines

ScrapThatThen · 06/03/2020 18:49

NHS mental health community. We have been vaguely told to make sure our Skype for business is working and plan for remote working or think if we might be affected by school closures. DH is civil service and has not yet been told to cancel travel plans.

reginafelangee · 06/03/2020 18:49

Yes we implemented a plan on Wednesday.

Weekly SLT meetings to update.

For most staff it's wash your hands and take your laptops home.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 06/03/2020 18:51

Are you in the UK? or an infected area?

They are currently looking for volunteers to do the testing at a persons house, there aren't many takers so far....

Grin Suprising Grin

It's positive to see large companies taking action, and not so much the others [shocked]

We are UK based so not affected by travel.

dementedma · 06/03/2020 18:53

We've been sent govt policy and told to wash our hands more. They did plan to put out hand gel but cant get hold of any.

Neuronurse · 06/03/2020 18:54

I work in a large London NHS trust and have had no guidance from our leaders. They've told us there are cases within the trust (inpatients admitted for non corona reasons) but that's about it.

Patients/visitors are asking why there's no advice for them upon entering the wards and are asking questions about how to help prevent transmission. Half the hand sanitiser and soap dispensers are empty, there's no restrictions that are adhered to with regard to the number of visitors to the ward and no training or education for staff both clinical and non clinical.

Lumene · 06/03/2020 18:54

Contingency plans for WFH

Doggodogington · 06/03/2020 18:55

Nope, and I work in a large company and meet hundreds of customers every shift. Apparently we are getting gloves and hand sanitizer next week. Sort of like shutting the gate after the horse has bolted.

bitheby · 06/03/2020 18:59

Apparently we have a team of people assembled just to work on the Coronavirus response. I work in a hospital but it's more of a community hospital and not a large general hospital.
