To not send my children to school next week

That's it really. It seems mad to send them and have them inevitably catch the virus when they could stay at home. What are others doing?

@PickAChew Either she has or she has gone to pick her kids up from school.

eeeyoresmiles · 06/03/2020 15:15

Everyone saying well you'd have to do it for months - that's only true if you think the schools are going to be staying open for all of those months.

What's possibly more likely is that in a couple of weeks schools may be shut anyway, or there may be enough illness to make it an easy decision to keep kids off.

Keeping them off now isn't daft if you're aiming to get ahead of that point, rather than just waiting to be told.

BorneFeet · 06/03/2020 15:17

Follow the government advice

Scbchl · 06/03/2020 15:18

@TooMuchBloodyChoice your concerns are completely understandable though in those circumstances.

GalOopNorth · 06/03/2020 15:18

I’m taking mine out from Monday until Easter. Then we’ll see where we are, but I expect all the schools will be closed from then.

By the time it’s in your area, it’s too late. We need to avoid it because of serious health conditions that put us in the at risk category. Plus I WFH and DH is an ex teacher so no worries there.

JellyfishandShells · 06/03/2020 15:23

You can only have a conspiracy against the truth, and as we have no proof we are being told everything, there's no conspiracy, just people who are prepared to question what they are told when we know we proles don't matter, money matters

An encapsulation of tin hat- ism.

Devlesko · 06/03/2020 15:26

Jelly

Thank you Grin I do question a lot, but don't think the earth is flat.
I think it's just as bad to do as you are told and not question.

More people would have survived the twin towers falling if they hadn't done as they were told and reentered the building.
Sometimes, common sense prevails even if it's not what you are told to do.

TinyTear · 06/03/2020 15:27

yawn, funny how all these people have money to spare to be able to be home, not working, keeping the children away

oh wait, there are probably benefits at play, paid for by the taxes i pay going to work... and keeping my children in school and after school club

Devlesko · 06/03/2020 15:32

TinyTear

Yep, we have tc, because we don't earn huge amounts like yourself. Both self employed/small business that will be hit hard over the next how ever many months. We will have to take a mortgage break and will lose all our income.
But we won't be spreading it like selfish arses. We'll get by, we won't starve.

lucy2204 · 06/03/2020 15:33

@blondieblonde I'm thinking of doing the same thing tbf I'd rather my kids stay fit and healthy. Do what you think is best. X

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/03/2020 15:34

@Devlesko that's all well and good if you have that option but for people living hand to mouth in rented accommodation with no savings pulling their kids from school and staying off work isn't an option.

Lynda07 · 06/03/2020 15:34

Why is it inevitable that your children will catch 'it' if they go to school next week? Everyone is going to school or work near me.

TinyTear · 06/03/2020 15:35

Earn huge amounts? really? what makes you think that... just the fact i can't suddenly stay home for a week or six...

Lynda07 · 06/03/2020 15:39

I think you are worrying unnecessarily. Are there cases of the virus near where you live? If there had been some at your children's school you'd have been told. Do you keep them at home when there is a chicken pox outbreak or hand/foot/mouth - or colds and 'flu?

In London (I live there), last time I checked there were 25 cases - none anywhere near me. Of course there will be more but some of the originally infected will have recovered.

Honestly I don't understand you.

damnthatanxiety · 06/03/2020 15:39

OP, out if interest, are you an anti vaxxer?

Lynda07 · 06/03/2020 15:44

163 cases to date some of whom will have got over it by now.
I just don't get the panic.

champagneandfromage50 · 06/03/2020 15:46

The OP is at the super market cackling as she grabs the last of the loo roll

oohnicevase · 06/03/2020 15:51

My dd has her GCSEs so she has to go .. unless the school closes .. I think you may be over reacting !

Kawahara · 06/03/2020 15:57

My kids arent going. They are in Italy. I am currently in touch with their father and we think they may have to be isolated upon return. Well if numbers continue to increase where they are.

His work have told him to isolate and they will pay him.

My work are hearing up to close and have us work from home.

If they werent in italy, they would be going.

Its not ineviatble they will next week. They have had just as much chance by going in today.

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 06/03/2020 16:02

Do you keep them off every winter incase they catch flu?

Did you avoid primary school incase they got chicken pox? Or hand foot and mouth?

So far the evidence is showing that Coronavirus is no more dangerous to healthy children than other minor illnesses are.

Carpathian2 · 06/03/2020 16:05

YABU to not post this on the Corona virus topic ffs. I’m sick of seeing this shit.

Absolutely this ⬆️. Don't watch Sky News, that's all that's on there!

I'm sure some people are loving the drama 😡

JellyfishandShells · 06/03/2020 16:11

Could not agree more .

CurrywurstAndChips · 06/03/2020 16:22

Armchair psychology time. In the case of one of my 'friends' at least, I think it gives her a sense of importance amid the monotony of daily life. This is a person who sits on Facebook or the Mail Online all day long, and regurgitating whatever sensationalist thing she sees I believe allows her to feel like she's smarter and more informed than everyone else.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 06/03/2020 16:25

The NHS struggles to cope with flu. It's why they started to vaccinate young children, so they don't become ill or make others ill.

So, we are still in flu season and the NHS struggles, how on earth will the extra impact hit it?

Babyfairy0923 · 06/03/2020 16:53

We are also considering this option- my husband is in the at risk category.
