We're all doomed!

Seriously, not happy about this and preparing to catch it now. Think I'll stock up on paracetamol.

on a positive note op, you may be able to get your hands on some really good hand gel and of course those disposable gloves

serialtester · 03/03/2020 21:06

A close relative works in one of the 2 centres that the first patients in the U.K. were treated in. We're all still alive here. Chill your beans OP.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/03/2020 21:11

I'm a nurse and I do t think me or my colleagues are at all bothered about it. We had so many very sick babies with RSV, that tends to put things into perspective.

maddiemookins16mum · 03/03/2020 21:16

Oh please, stop with the drama Op.

DontCallMeShitley · 03/03/2020 21:16

@WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish - the nurse that works with cancer patients? I saw that in the news.

Notopel · 03/03/2020 21:23

Why are we not being more open about Coronavirus cases here in the UK? Singapore is publishing data on all cases including details of where people live and work. We haven't heard anything at all about the Wales case on the grounds of patient confidentiality. Which is awful considering the incubation period - I think there's a right to know if you've been potentially exposed. It's just a blanket ban on information, which I think is a mistake.

cousinboneless · 03/03/2020 21:24

@ceilihouse Hi to a fellow person from the Wirral! I saw that Hilbre was closed today as a result.

Bluntness100 · 03/03/2020 21:27

Gosh that’s really impressive op, they came in whilst you were in shift and have had the results back already, and what you checked their records and saw it was positive, and thought you’d tell Mumsnet at the end of your shift?

Wow. That was fast....

KaptenKrusty · 03/03/2020 21:34

Lollllllz

Gwenhwyfar · 03/03/2020 21:35

"you checked their records and saw it was positive,"

Wouldn't anybody be able to tell if there was a person with coronavirus being treated at their hospital as staff would be in hazmat suits?

QualityStreeet · 03/03/2020 21:39

OP, doesn’t say he came in whilst she was on her shift, does she?

Regardless, if they came in at the beginning of OP’s 12 hour shift, I can see that getting the results could be possible. I’d guess that there will be ways to fast track suspected Coronavirus results from the lab.

I also don’t think she’s shared anything that would be deemed confidential.

DontCallMeShitley · 03/03/2020 21:41

Follow up to my previous post - the clinician didn't test positive in Herts.

We're all doomed is a joke. Been watching old episodes of Dads Army and it's what the Scotsman says.

I said maybe sat around in A&e, I don't know if they came in by ambulance. I've no idea

OP posts:
friendineed · 03/03/2020 21:49

I didn't say they came in while I was on shift. They came in via a&3. May have been last week, I've no idea. Just that our local hospital has a case.

I think they are hospitalising all patients of coronavirus to monitor the progressing of the disease. So they have more data really. Very little is known, data from China not trusted and astudy by imperial suggests only 1 in 19 infected are tested. I'll see if I can find a link

Frogqueen13 · 03/03/2020 22:22
  1. They are not hospitalising all potential corona patients
  1. The patient rings 111 gets triaged then 111 pass there details to a&e who give them an appointment to attend an isolation are where a member of staff assesses them and swabs them and sends them home or admits if very unwell
  1. The swabs take 72 hours to come back
  1. Hazmat suits aren't required. A gown, gloves visor and hair cover and a fit tested mask or hood
  1. They are only coming in via ambulance if the are very sock or don't have there own transport.

Hope this helps squash some rumours

Any more questions feel free to ask

picklemewalnuts · 04/03/2020 07:01

So Frog, they are sent home to self isolate if they are not very ill. When the test comes back positive, are they brought back in regardless of how ill they are? Their contacts told to self isolate whether ill or not? Or are they left at home?

Gwenhwyfar · 04/03/2020 20:56

"A gown, gloves visor and hair cover and a fit tested mask or hood "

This would still be recognisable to other patients wouldn't it, so not
'confidential' unless totally hidden from view.
We know that some people were told by 111 to go to A&E.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/03/2020 20:58

A TV presented wrote in a newspaper that he was tested in a hospital car park by a nurse in a hazmat suit.

Frogqueen13 · 04/03/2020 21:59

@picklemewalnuts no they just self isolate at home for 2 weeks

Frogqueen13 · 04/03/2020 22:01

@Gwenhwyfar its the same precautions for MERS, CDIFF & ESBL

Frogqueen13 · 04/03/2020 22:02

@Gwenhwyfar it's unlikely to be a hazmat suit more likely to be a paper suit with a hood respirator which is used for clinicians that haven't been fit tested. Or have facial hair or the ambulance service
