Jack Monroe did a food-focused no deal Brexit list that’s presumably on her website. Worth a look.

Just focus on what you actually eat. Good news is that you would only be isolated for a short period of time (relatively) and the power would be on so your freezer is still in play.
Get tinned veg instead of frozen veg to save space in your freezer if that's an issue.
Make sure you have things like toothpaste and shampoo.
Put your mind to morale boosters. Such as snacks and treats. Or films /tv you like.
Also try and have even half arsed exercise ideas assuming all is well otherwise with health.

Sittinonthefloor · 03/03/2020 14:30

Things you might want if you are ill. Squash, etc. Stuff your children can help themselves to.

ifonly4 · 03/03/2020 14:47

I'd add longlife or powdered milk, cereals, pulses, beans, soups, tinned tuna, mackeral and sardines, tinned fruit, fruit juice, tissues, yeast and bread flour if you don't mind making some, and lots of wine if you like it! Oh, tissues, sanitary protection and cat food.

If you haven't got them, books to read, games, items for exercise, ie I have a skipping rope.

InDubiousBattle · 03/03/2020 14:50

I have enough food, drink, toilet roll, toiletries, washing/cleaning stuff in now to be okay if we were in a situation that we couldn't leave the house or get deliveries for 3 ish weeks.

NaturalBornWoman · 03/03/2020 15:00

I just did a four week shop of all my usual weekly stuff like meat fish butter cheese etc, and added UHT milk and frozen veg, plus extras of tins of beans, soup, tuna, sardines, tomatoes and a couple of the dried artisan grains nut roasts, rice pouches, pasta, curry pastes and pasta sauces and a few tins of fruit and corned beef just in case. I also have plenty of loo roll, soap and cleaning stuff, 5L of 70% hand sanitizer and some alcohol wipes. Oh and bread mix.

Bestnewshoes · 03/03/2020 15:05

Bellini you are always so helpful - I followed you in all the Brexit prep threads, different names for me, and always so impressed at how thoughtful you are xx

Porcupineinwaiting · 03/03/2020 15:12

Remember to stock up on things that are very easy to prepare - eg tinned soup, breakfast cereal, biscuits, crackers - for if the adults are I'll but you still need to feed children (or for older children, if you need them to be able to feed themselves).

My Brexit store was all predicated on the assumption that dh and I would be available to cook (so lots of dried pulses etc) so has needed a bit of tweaking. Ds1 is 14 so had be fine but I did need to check that ds2 could open a tin and cook pasta.

I’ve seen some good information by Full Spectrum Survival on YouTube 😁

Lillyhatesjaz · 03/03/2020 16:29

Chocolate

cjt110 · 03/03/2020 16:33

Forgive my daftness, but I have seen people buying bottled water.. why?

RhymingRabbit3 · 03/03/2020 16:39

I dont really understand the need for bottled water, candles or torches. Why would coronavirus cause loss of water or electricity?

WashHandsTwentySeconds · 03/03/2020 16:41

Given that most long lasting store cupboard essentials are all quite heavy and filling, and fresh fruit and veg may be less accessible, I would recommend some Senokot for any unforeseen blockages!

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 03/03/2020 17:04

Pretty much everything they are running out of in the walking dead, that should cover it.

bellinisurge · 03/03/2020 17:15

Thank you Best.
Unless you actually want to get into general prepping like me, no need to buy extra bottles of water.
Of course, always handy to have a bit in. Only a bit, like a couple of 2litre bottles.
More realistic, based on what has gone before in real examples, if there was a water problem that there would be supplies made available.

Frangipanini · 03/03/2020 17:35

We have loads of power cuts so I expect more delays on fixing them if there is a spread of Coronavirus. I am replacing all my batteries.

Coulddowithanap · 03/03/2020 17:38

I suppose if it gets that bad then they may not been anyone to run the power stations (if lots of people if people get sick) i can't imagine it will do but what do i know.

CynthiaRothrock · 03/03/2020 17:39

I always have a couple of bottles of water and juice (long life "fresh" and concentrate). Water because I lived in an area that had the water contaminated by cryptosiduim a few years ago and spent the summer having to boil water and cool it before drinking which was a total PITA . Juice is always handy, we make ice pops in the summer and when the kids have had sore throats they're great for keeping them. Hydtarted also if Ill and having to keep your fluid intake up water can get abit boring.

BrendasUmbrella · 03/03/2020 18:17

I have seen people buying bottled water.. why?

If you're talking about spring/mineral water I buy it because I like to drink it! I don't drink tea or coffee and I hate the taste of tap. Even through a filter or distiller it still has a bad taste to me. Bottled water tastes nice.

cjt110 · 04/03/2020 11:24

@BrendasUmbrella I don’t mean in general... I mean stockpiling it for Coronavirus

BrendasUmbrella · 04/03/2020 11:34

@cjt110 Well, probably for the same reason they're stockpiling everything else?
