How do I not breath it in?

We are already taking measures at home of anyone who walks in touches nothing and washes their hands, plus I’m doing extra things like removing clothes and getting into pjs.

Any deliveries being bought in are opened outside then wiped down etc etc. So I’m doing what I can.

I’m going London at the end of the month, I’ll be one of those that will be wearing disposable Gloves, so I’m not concerned about transferring the virus from my hands to myself, but I’m worried about breathing it in.

Apparently the masks don’t work? Would a scarf over my face work or something-

How can I avoid breathing it in, I don’t want to not go, I’ve been waiting years and years and years to go, it’s almost pathetic.

Please advice me.

You’ve all been helpful- thank you,

I will see if I can continue to take the medicine and walk as much as I can instead of transport- both good ideas.

Thank you

OP, I think it'll get to the stage of doing what's right fo you, whether it's now or in six weeks. I once read if someone coughed near you to hold your breath and if possible move out of the area - whether that's worth trying?

What about using the Vicks First Defence spray?

I’ve no idea of it’s efficacy and haven’t used it myself but they aren’t allowed to make health claims without providing supporting data.

You could use that before you go out into public spaces with lots of people.

I do know of people using it before plane travel and tube travel.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 03/03/2020 08:39

I’m sorry you have the extra worry of this virus, on top of your general health concerns, OP. I hope you can find a solution that puts your mind at ease.

Splitsunrise · 03/03/2020 08:48

Don’t travel around in London at peak times if you can avoid it, you will be squashed against lots of people! What kind of areas will you be going to?

Bouledeneige · 03/03/2020 13:46

Do you normally do this every winter fir the flu? I read this on my second journey on the tube today - no one is wearing face masks or scarves covering their faces or disposable gloves. Don't panic!

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 03/03/2020 14:05

Do you normally do this every winter fir the flu?

What has the flu got to do with COVID19?

ChickLitLover · 03/03/2020 14:15

In your situation I probably wouldn’t travel to London unless absolutely necessary. I think avoiding contact with people as much as reasonably possible is sensible.

However I do think the other things you have listed like opening deliveries outside, people not being able to touch anything when they come in your house etc seem very extreme.

I’m not sure any of us can really avoid it unless we completely isolate ourselves which just isn’t possible. I think thorough hand washing is the best we’ve got.

gamerwidow · 03/03/2020 14:48

They are extreme and not something most of us would even need to consider. In the OPs case she’s on a heavy drug regime just to avoid colds because of her health condition, she can be forgiven for being extreme I think.

GlubGlubGlub · 03/03/2020 18:44

@Bouledeneige she’s asthmatic and taking steroids. She will have the flu vaccination every year like the millions of others who have underlying conditions that put them at extra risk.

EnidBlyton · 03/03/2020 19:13

I think you need to take advise from your respiratory consultant

Bouledeneige · 03/03/2020 19:35

GlubGlub - why didn't OP add that rather essential detail in her original post? It does add quite important context.

ChickLitLover · 03/03/2020 19:35

she can be forgiven for being extreme I think

Yes, but she’s probably most likely to catch it by mixing with large amounts of people so if she’s cleaning items coming into her house, I can’t imagine why she’d consider travelling to London unless it is completely necessary. I didn’t get that impression as she says she’s been waiting years and years to go.

Suggest you see a doctor about your health anxiety.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 04/03/2020 07:26

Suggest you see a doctor about your health anxiety.

I suggest you actually read the thread and then you might see why the OP has good reason to be concerned. Hmm

Ikeameatballs · 04/03/2020 07:35

OP

None of those drugs are going to prevent you from getting a cold and certainly not coronavirus. They are largely drugs to treat asthma, which is fine and you may well need them but they will not prevent a virus. I appreciate however that if you did get a viral respiratory infection that this might trigger a worsening of your asthma, which sounds like what happened in Jan.

You need to take sensible hand washing measures.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/03/2020 07:41

Are you going to see something special in London, will it be particularly crowded?

Like others have said I would avoid the tube where possible

Palavah · 04/03/2020 07:46

What's bringing you to London? The air quality isn't great at the best of times. A mask might help with that, even if it doesn't filter out Covid.

Noone here is wearing masks/gloves (no more than usual).

MagentaRocks · 04/03/2020 08:16

I’m going to London at the weekend, no intention of cancelling. Will take the usual hygiene measures I do in my normal life. Yes lots of people have got corona virus but it is such a small percentage of the population. If someone is immunosupressed then yes take extra precautions but for most people it will be fine to go about their day to day life.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 04/03/2020 11:30

Hopefully it will rain a little bit and you can use one of these when out and about. Actually, maybe just use it anyway.
