Starting to think they aren’t going to want halls filled with 100s of kids if it spreads more.

What will happen to GCSE and A level students if they can’t take their exams?

I have neither an Art phone of any capacity nor tablet.

Piggywaspushed · 11/03/2020 20:49

Smart!!

StSaulOfSnacks · 11/03/2020 22:55

I can't quite remember Piggy. I work in a school so might have been in a DfE email, or in an email from DS's school (A-Levels this year). Either way, I thought it was legit.

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2020 06:50

I work in a school, too. Am a HOD. That has definitely not come from the DfE!

CherryPavlova · 12/03/2020 12:34

The current thinking is that exams will be going ahead.
Timetables are being amended so that each of 19 key subjects have two papers more than two weeks apart to enable one paper to be used to give a grade, if necessary.
If they miss both papers, a third paper in each subject will be available on a different day.
All pupils will be guaranteed an award. It will still be exam based not mocks based. Schools may have to amend arrangements so that smaller cohorts are in each room and desks are more spread out.
Schools may have to work together to provide local exam centres in numerous locations to reduce travel and numbers. That will be OFQUAL and JCQ guidance dependent.
Marking capacity may be affected and delay results slightly.

Source? Given that maths is 3 papers, I’m a bit confused about how they would reduce it to 2?

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2020 13:28

This doesn't address NEAs either, or what happens if the whole course has not been taught....

I am wondering about the source, too!

ihatethecold · 12/03/2020 16:04

Can I ask? what is NEA's ?

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 12/03/2020 16:28

NEA is a Non Exam Assessment

For some subjects they are done, or enough is done to assess a grade.

One that really isn't complete is DT (there may be others)

CherryPavlova · 12/03/2020 16:32

Source is a very reliable one - horses mouth almost.
My understanding from aforementioned horse is there will be an additional paper in key subjects used if necessary where a grade cannot be awarded from one or more set papers.

There is already a route for special consideration that will be continued.

NEA in my world is an ambulance trust. There are so many similar acronyms - which are you meaning?

CherryPavlova · 12/03/2020 16:34

Your NEA courses weren’t mentioned on the conference call whilst I was listening. Can’t say what thinking is around them.

noblegiraffe · 12/03/2020 16:37

Possible that it means two of the papers are at least two weeks apart, to capture the most pupils.

So maths A-level could be
Paper 1 June 1st (currently June 3rd)
Paper 2 June 10th (currently June 10th)
Paper 3 June 15th (currently June 12th)

And meet that criteria. JCQ rules already say that only 1 out of the 3 papers need to be sat to award a grade.

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2020 16:49

NEA is non examined assessment - ie coursework

ihatethecold · 12/03/2020 20:04

thanks for explaining that.

BackInTime · 12/03/2020 20:29

If as they said today the peak is due in 8-10 weeks that looks like it's smack in the middle of exams Sad

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2020 20:36

This was my thinking...

Womenwotlunch · 14/03/2020 23:05

Has anyone got any current information as to what is happening with exams this year?
I have two dcs sitting exams and they are extremely worried now

Piggywaspushed · 14/03/2020 23:08

Nope. No one knows anything. Sorry. Sad

As well as being a teacher, I have a DS in year 11.

20Newnames · 18/03/2020 16:53

Anyone anxiously awaiting the announcement coming shortly. Apparently it will cover exams as well as school closures.

LoveFameTragedy · 18/03/2020 23:56

Well!
