Could I get the coronavirus?

I came into close contact with a patient last week. She has just travelled back from a destination where the official advice is to self isolate but only if symptomatic. She claimed to have no symptoms but didn't appear unwell anyway. Our policy is to treat the client, providing they're well and coming from a place where they would only isolate if they had symptoms.

However, I thought you could have it without having symptoms at first? So in theory she could've passed it onto me?

Asking on behalf of a health conscious DH. I personally think it's all a big fuss over nothing Grin

That's the bit I don't understand. If it has a 14 day incubation period then surely you should be taking precautions as symptoms may not be showing yet.

I don't pretend to know what I'm talking about though so could be talking out my behind!

Ribena That's what I don't understand either. I'm a bit puzzled. Surely this person could have it and could've felt right as rain on the day of treatment?

She is following the official advice. So should you. No need to do anything differently apart from wash your hands regularly.

I am following official advice... However, I am rightfully curious with regards to how I'm not at risk since she could've had it without knowing, given the incubation period

In theory yes she could be incubating it or asymptomatic so yes she could have passed it on to you.

What do you mean? has she been diagnosed? If so then you need to contact 111.

If she's travelled from an area where she did not need to self isolate unless she had symptoms and she now has symptoms then I would call 111.

If she's travelled from an area where there was no need to self isolate unless you have symptoms and she's still fine then no need to notify anyone.

Hi all. We have a new Coronavirus topic (as requested by many Mumsnetters) and are moving threads over as and when we see them.

We're moving this one over now.
