Would you self isolate?

janemaster · 01/03/2020 11:40

The advice is to self isolate if you have travelled from certain areas abroad, even if you have no symptoms. We know in other countries that not everyone has followed this advice.
So be honest, if you had no symptoms but were told to self isolate for 2 weeks in the house, would you? This would mean not leaving the house at all and staying in a separate room from anyone else living in your house.

YABU - No I would not
YANBU - Yes I would

Lots of advice about wAshing hands properly, using tissues

The premier league have said they’ll pay to closed stadiums rather than stop playing matches

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 03/03/2020 20:50

Scary stuff Helena. What was it Kinnock said about not to get ill. Let’s hope that DWP advice gets circulated quickly.

Lots of advice about wAshing hands properly, using tissues

It does sound really basic and minor, but it is the single most important way of preventing infection spread. Along with having bare arms below the elbow, and not wearing ties or scarves around the neck inside around others, as bugs collect in them and get spread when they flap about.

SirChing · 03/03/2020 23:30

Also, for anyone who doesn't know, wearing false nails is a really bad idea when there are illnesses circulating. There are so many.places down the side of them and under the top for bugs to lurk. If you have ever looked at bacteria on hands with and without false nails under a UV lamp, despite hand washing for the same amount of time, the hand with false nails will always be covered with bacteria still around the nail areas.

New cases in China are now slowing down, so that is good news

ShanghaiDiva · 04/03/2020 10:24

Yes, good news indeed.

SAN JOSE
San Jose Mayor Calls for Action to Protect Renters Amid Coronavirus

Four new cases of coronavirus were reported in Santa Clara County Friday, bringing the total to 24 and prompting the mayor to call for action to protect renters.

San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo introduced an ordinance that would prohibit evictions of tenants, if that tenant can’t pay the rent because he or she is not working or under employed due to coronavirus.

He said the Valley’s Association of Landlords is on board with the plan and there may be some help for smaller landlords who themselves can’t afford to lose a month’s rent

The moratorium lasts for 30 days but can be extended.

“There are tough times that we are going to have to endure in the weeks ahead and the months ahead, and we’re going to get through this,” Liccardo said. “But were going to get through this together.”

The mayor, like the public health department, is recommending that all public events be cancelled.

All functions at the fairgrounds are cancelled as well as a teacher’s conference scheduled for Saturday in San Jose.

However, a big Native American Heritage Festival scheduled for next week in San Jose is still on while organizers monitor the situation

It's America that's really going to screw the world.
I'm on a predominately USA Facebook group.
They have no security nets. So not only are they not going to SI. They can't afford the testing. Some don't have health insurance so they aren't going to find treatment and They are going to go out and work until they physically can't anymore.

Lweji · 08/03/2020 09:11

My government has ensured paid leave for people who need to stay at home (suspected cases or contacts).
In the US people are reassured they can't get evicted if they can't work for 2 weeks.
It's a time bomb indeed.

TabbyMumz · 08/03/2020 09:24

Absolutely no limit on anything by me, shops are full of paracetamol, hand wash gel, soap, toilet roll. No panic at all.

Aridane · 08/03/2020 12:36

Ditto, @TabbyMumz - are you in London?

YgritteSnow · 08/03/2020 12:47

Same @TabbyMumz and @Aridane. Yes am in London.

Aridane · 08/03/2020 12:51

@YgritteSnow

Me too!

Aridane · 08/03/2020 12:53

Maybe Londoners are more resilient...

Wildthyme · 08/03/2020 13:05

Yeah, londoners are oh so special and better than anyone else. Biscuit

YgritteSnow · 08/03/2020 13:07

Maybe. I thought it was more likely that there's huge hyperbole in the media over shortages or due to its huge population the city has a larger and more efficient supply chain to cater for that.

mindproject · 08/03/2020 13:13

Yes. But I would hope to at least get statutory sick pay, although I fear I wouldn't.

bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 13:19

Obviously I would. General prepper here. Two weeks at home with all the utilities working is pretty easy. Always have a full pantry. No bother. And I can work from home so that's no problem either.
Inconvenient not problematic.

Aridane · 08/03/2020 13:46

Not better, @Wildthyme - more resilient. You see it in threads where people fear coming to London because of perceived terrorism threat whereas Londoners just get in with their daily lives

< no childish emoticons here! >

Aridane · 08/03/2020 13:47

@YgritteSnow - or both!

KahlanRahl · 08/03/2020 14:05

We'd isolate in the house/garden but not from each other. We'd rather catch the other person's corona than be restricted to part of the house.
