..to say Homestead Prepping Lite is not Doomsday Survival Prepping. So here's some non-panicky ideas

I'm a general prepper so I know about this stuff. It's my "hobby", if you like. Best case scenario is it all goes away and is nothing. We all want that but it might not be like that. Next best case scenario is two weeks boring self isolation. Yes, you can ask your pals to bring you food but this pal has their own stuff to deal with. I'll help you up to a point as long as I'm not required to self isolate too. Next best case scenario is a general lockdown in your area when nobody can bring anyone anything. No one in your house is poorly but there's only so much TV you can binge watch before you get hungry or need a wee or do other hygiene stuff. This is where homestead prepping lite comes in.
You don't need to worry about utilities going off etc but you do need to eat. You probably have stuff in your freezer and cupboards but enough for two weeks. Frozen sweetcorn and spaghetti for breakfast, anyone?
And bog roll? Yes, there are general prepper approaches but who's got time for that shit if you aren't a prepper? You need to get extra but where to store it? Get a hold-all. Take the bog roll out of its packaging, squash each roll down and pack it in there. Yes, you might lose some on the outside of the roll, they'll look a bit bumpy but it's better than a bog roll wall in your bedroom. Or rejig your drawers Grinto make space.
I'm not a medic, I am over 50 with an underlying health problem so my situation is different to you regarding getting poorly. Follow general advice about good hand hygiene and eating well to boost your immune system.
I hope the worst that happens is you get bored. Don't beat yourself up about being concerned. And stop willy waving about how it's all nothing to you and everyone else is being silly. Take back control Grin of this situation and don't give in to hype either way. There's loads of great advice on here.

What part of ‘fucking stop it’ isn’t telling someone what to say, do etc?

bellinisurge · 29/02/2020 19:19

Goodness me, you are getting cross about it.

OP posts:
Snoopdogsbitch · 29/02/2020 19:19

The ' fucking stop it' was ironic in case you hadn't spotted it. But it is shit. See, another opinion, shock- horror.

Dipshit is believing the panic. I'm very, very far away from dipshit.

bellinisurge · 29/02/2020 19:20

As for tuppeny counsellor, would it be better if I used your phrase of "fucking mental"?Wink

OP posts:
Snoopdogsbitch · 29/02/2020 19:22

OP if you imply I think I'm the centre of the universe or dipshit of course I'll be irritated. Not cross, irritated. I don't do cross, especially for something this ridiculous.

MarchDaffs · 29/02/2020 19:24

Waaaah how very dare you I'm entitled to my opinion is also on the dipshit bingo card.

Snoopdogsbitch · 29/02/2020 19:24

Yes, OP, something we agree on: use fucking mental instead of ' trigger', it's much less disingenuous.

MelanieFrontage · 29/02/2020 19:24

So why then is it okay for you to call the OP fucking mental?

Double standards?

bellinisurge · 29/02/2020 19:24

Your opening gambit was "you are fucking mental". Not sure why you think grown ups would bother listening to you if that is your input.

OP posts:
Snoopdogsbitch · 29/02/2020 19:25

Marchdaffs calling someone dipshit is offensive.

bellinisurge · 29/02/2020 19:26

Not sure tantrumming is the way to handle this.

OP posts:
Snoopdogsbitch · 29/02/2020 19:26

That was another joke, in case you didn't get that one either.

Snoopdogsbitch · 29/02/2020 19:27

Ha, no tantrums here, enjoying the banter.

MarchDaffs · 29/02/2020 19:27

Bit obvious that.

bellinisurge · 29/02/2020 19:28

Nice distraction technique. I suppose that's in the playbook.

Willow2017 · 29/02/2020 19:29

This entire thread is comical and bizarre all at the same time. Knock yourselves out panicking the arse out of yourselves. Sad, sad, very sad. OAO

For someone who is so derogatory about other people you are pretty crap at reading and comprehension aint you?

Not one person on here has said they are panicking!
Theres is no need as we already have enough stores in our cupboards to last us a couple of weeks if necessary.

If tshtf then its not us who will be panicking its those who are so busy being so clever and sneery towards anyone who is doing a perfectly normal thing, that find they are fighting over the last jar of coffee and last packet of loo roll in their local shop.

Glad your shops are still stocked full but its not the same everywhere. Do you think just because you are bragging about your local shop having everything that it makes what other people are saying lies? Does it make you feel superior that you can buy stuff someone else cant? I can think of no other reason to be posting such snidey comments.

There are lots of threads on MN that dont concern me, dont affect my life in any way but I dont feel the need to go on them and call all the people on them fucking mental, or sad or panic-struck. If you actually read what people are doing instead of scoffing you would see nobody is panicking, nobody is grabbing tons of stuff of shelves and filling their trolleys with mountains of stuff, but you would rather make up your own narrative that a few extra bits of shopping per week over the last few months is 'panicking' and 'mental'. I know who the 'sad' one is.

Snoopdogsbitch · 29/02/2020 19:29

Noone has a bloody sense of humour anymore. You guys do what makes you happy: prep away, protect your families, take care. I'm off.

MarchDaffs · 29/02/2020 19:30

Nah snoop, it's just that your attempts at humour are shit.

Everytimeref · 29/02/2020 19:32

Having discovered my work colleague best friend has just returned from Italy and is currently being tested for Corona virus I have bought more shopping this weekend just in case. I don't think thats mental just common sense.

Snowdropdelight · 29/02/2020 19:38

Might be best to ignore and get back on track.

Dh is currently de frosting the freezer. I'm thrilled. But also shocked at myself. Definitely sign of being middle aged.

I doing more batch cooking tomorrow. Have a shop arriving Tuesday.

My basics are pretty much covered. I feel relieved and very grateful to those on these threads. And prepping tips are useful anyway.

Our shops were heaving today without the question and no hand wash gels anywhere.

Our local super drug was sold out of hand gel and anti bac wipes within 20 mins this morning.

Willow2017 · 29/02/2020 19:38

Noone has a bloody sense of humour anymore

Well do tell us when you start to be actually funny so we know when to laugh.

PureAlchemy · 29/02/2020 19:40

There was plenty of everything in my local Tesco today too. They’d restocked on the paracetamol and ibuprofen since the last time I was in.

I still think it’s sensible to have a bit extra in at the minute. I don’t think that adding a few extra packets of crackers, microwave rice and so on counts as panic buying. It’s all stuff we’ll use anyway, if the Coronavirus does die down and stocking up was unnecessary it just means our grocery bills will be a bit lower later on in the year.

And given that the shop shelves were full, I don’t see why that should bother anyone else either.

dontgobaconmyheart · 29/02/2020 19:41

Surely any sensible person doesnt need a mumsnet post to point out that picking up a few tins and toilet roll is sensible generally, let alone a reminder to exercise at home if you're stuck there Confused.

I'm not a prepper (although each to their bloody own) and we usually have a spare of almost everything at home anyway, and a surplus of pasta, rice etc -it's called being organised, and being lucky enough that that is affordable, frankly. Sorry OP but I do think threads like this are a form of scaremongering. There is plenty of info and plenty of persons able to work out for themself whether they want to plan ahead on the off chance or not without it, and even with good intentions all it seems to do is cause more panic - people will rush to buy things so they aren't missing out once they read threadd like this, rather than sensibly add a few extra bits to the shop each time they go.

In any case the last few pages of this thread seem to be a lot of willy waving and one upmanship anyway. As I said, it never ends up a worthwhile contribution on the whole, even with good intentions.
