Coronavirus and 7 months pregnant

Help.
Im in a complete panic about coronavirus. Im 7 months pregnant and also have a 7 year old and a 4 year old.
Im absolutely terrified of the coronavirus spreading in the uk, to the point I am having constant panic attacks and refreshing the news every 10 mins. Im so scared for my baby and my children.
Am i blowing this totally out of proportion?

OP - the immediate priority is to get help for your mental health condition, including (pregnancy safe) medication, if appropriate

Samcarpy92 · 24/02/2020 07:33

Unless you're an already sickly OAP you'll be fine.

Jrobhatch29 · 24/02/2020 09:03

Surely the figures dont match though. Nearly 80,000 infected... Nearly 3000 dead... 23000 recovered. What about the rest? A 2% death rate assumes they all surivive

The missing ones are the ones still fighting it. I'm guessing as it's like flu it can take a few weeks to recover but almost all people will recover well its worth thinking about that.

LapsedVeganAcademic · 24/02/2020 09:53

Also currently pregnant, and totally get your anxiety and panic. But I have some background in public health, and really, I think the advice on here is spot on. Beyond the actual epidemic epicentre (in this case Wuhan, and surrounding areas of China and Far East), modern infection control methods can almost always prevent a the kinds of global catastrophes of media scare stories.

Wolfiefan · 24/02/2020 09:55

This is your heath anxiety. Seek help for it.

KaptenKrusty · 24/02/2020 10:17

Stay off social media and stop reading about it ! Seriously it is not good to get in such a state about it - the media hype is awful!

It doesn't seem to affect children too bad anyway so your kids should be fine! Unless you have underlying health problems or a weak immune system then you will be fine even if you got the virus

I'm getting on a plane to Tokyo in a few weeks and have zero concerns - if I get ill then I get ill - you could catch heaps of illnesses

KaptenKrusty · 24/02/2020 10:54

Italy is not on total lock down - my mate just flew to Rome this morning!

NcFortuna · 24/02/2020 12:23

A number of cities/towns in the North of Italy are on lockdown. Rome is in the south.

NcFortuna · 24/02/2020 12:25

Well more in the middle I suppose...

Jrobhatch29 · 24/02/2020 17:25

I wish i felt reassured. It seems as though its out of control now

It has a super low death rate, you’re being ridiculous. I’m also pregnant with four children and I just can’t get worked up about this. I was pregnant when swine flu hit too and I didn’t care then either.

Wolfiefan · 24/02/2020 17:53

That’s your anxiety speaking. OP

BecauseReasons · 24/02/2020 18:10

What about the rest?

Apparently if they die at home they've not been counted in the official death toll.

Jrobhatch29 · 24/02/2020 18:13

I am going to see my doctor tomorrow about this anxiety as ive never experienced it so bad before. I hope you are all right. I just dont think they lock down huge areas for small death rates Sad

OP posts:
BalanchineBallet · 24/02/2020 18:16

No, they lock down areas for containment because the spread causes massive economic impact!

Wolfiefan · 24/02/2020 18:26

You are right. It is your anxiety. Any “lockdown” is to prevent spread. It’s not about death rates.

Jrobhatch29 · 25/02/2020 18:57

Can i panic yet

One of the blessings of this virus is that whereas swine flu was particularly dangerous for pregnant women, this one appears to hold no additional risk. There is also, currently, as far as the best data can tell, a 0% case fatality rate in the under 10s. You and your family are statistically in the safest demographics.

Delatron · 25/02/2020 19:06

Yes it does seem to affect males more and older demographics.
That should reassure you a bit.

I was pregnant when swine flu was going round and the fact that was so dangerous to pregnant women was scary.

Keep reading the facts. Practice good hygiene and try and relax.

RedPanda2 · 25/02/2020 19:10

Yabu, can you get an appointment with your CBT therapist? Even if it was terrible what do you propose to do about it?
Health anxiety is debilitating isn't it. I hope you put it in proportion soon.

Wolfiefan · 25/02/2020 19:21

You need to seek help for the health anxiety. Panicking isn’t a solution. It won’t help. It’s not a proportionate response.

Jrobhatch29 · 25/02/2020 19:36

Ive read the info on pregnant women and it is reassuring but also based on such a small sample on women. I cant shake the feeling of being terrified. Im also a teacher and felt like i wanted to burst into tears at every cough today. Its the unknowns. How would this affect my baby? Am i more likely to be seriously ill because im pregnant? What about my kids? Where will i give birth safely if hospitals are full? Im driving my partner insane. I jjst cant stop worrying.

Jrobhatch29 · 25/02/2020 19:37

I also find the current death rate in italy so alarming
