They’re a bit worried. I’m guessing they’ll be ok, just delayed coming home?

I’ve no previous experience of this kind of thing.

hoping that they will be able to travel soon.

Are they getting info from local government? They should keep an eye on that for advice. Cary but they should be fine, just delayed

itsamimario · 28/02/2026 17:21

I can’t say it’s my first choice for a holiday

Agreed

What are their travel insurance provider advising?

Sit tight and wait I think.
Due to fly tomorrow so no info for today

Can’t see airspace opening today. They’ll have to just wait it out. Risk to them personally is very low and they’ll find a fair amount of daily life carrying on as usual. But it’s best to stay indoors.

thebeautifulsky · 28/02/2026 17:27

We're in a similar situation. DD, her DH and children are stuck in Dubai. They're also due to fly home tomorrow. Beyond worried.

All these influencers harping on how fantastic a place it is to live. Maybe they are now realising it’s not so fabulous!

It's a great place if you have money. "Low-paid workers in Dubai, often referred to as blue-collar or migrant workers, constitute a significant portion of the workforce but face challenging financial conditions. While the city is known for its high salaries in certain sectors, many laborers in construction, retail, and service industries earn between AED 1,000 and AED 2,500 per month as of late 2025."

Same.. went once, never again. There’s a reason fat bald old men like it there.

keepswimming38 · 28/02/2026 18:34

@Ihatetomatoesi was referring more to missiles dropping on you than inequality of the workforce but yes there’s lots of issues people willingly choose to ignore when they go on holiday there.

Same ... I only went to break up a trip to Australia and because my daughter wanted to go (she gets influenced by ... well, influencers). It's the only place I've ever visited abroad where I couldn't wait to get back on the plane. I really hated the vibe there.

But isn't the talk of money going to be all relative? Around 30% of the population of the UAE are Indian immigrants whose average wage working as unskilled labourers in India would be the equivalent of around 400 - 600 AED per month. So those workers would definitely be considered to 'have money' by their compatriots.

No, it’s not relative at all. They are being abused, and should be paid a lot more by local standards.

SatsumaDog · 01/03/2026 07:24

I hope they get back soon op.

Whether or not I would personally holiday is Dubai is irrelevant. I have a great deal of sympathy for those who are stuck or worried for relatives who are. It must be a very frightening situation to find yourself in.

Squirrelchops1 · 01/03/2026 07:31

Looking on flight radar flights are still operating all over UAE just not into Iran/ Israeli airspace. It's really weird as flights still in and out of Muscat so why are Dubai flights stopped?

Twiglets1 · 01/03/2026 07:33

Totally agree @KatiePricesKnickers migrant workers are being exploited in Dubai.

Not having a go at you or your in laws @itsamimario I hope they can fly home very soon. I think Dubai is generally still a safe place (for those with money).

I did raise my eyebrows at one influencer who wrote an open letter on twitter begging for the conflict to stop because her gigs were cancelled and she was losing money. No awareness at all.

Possibly because Dubai airport is at risk of being bombed??

Because Dubai Airport has been hit by a missile (or missile debris, reports vary) with multiple people injured

IceOnTheLake · 01/03/2026 07:56

Did everyone miss the actual OP? The one where someone explained they were worried about people they love?

OP I'm sorry they're stuck in this situation, the risks seem to be pretty low overall. Presumably they're staying put indoors and waiting until airspace opens again. Hopefully that won't take too long.
