The South near Rafah is more intact, but these are from Gaza city and the North.

It's gone. There's barely a building that hasn't got significant damage/a burnt out shell.

I don't know how anyone can look at this and say that is ok. Or look at it and not blame the people who dropped those bombs. I wonder how many of those buildings were occupied at the time. I wonder how many dead or dying people are under the destroyed buildings we see right now.

Thanks to Google maps this level of destruction can't be hidden any more. I just hope that one day the monsters that ordered this genocide face justice for it. Nothing can ever justify this. It's a never crime for a reason.

Ps: I didn't look for the worst bits, it's pretty much all the same up north. You can look for yourselves.

Israel have always responded disproportionately to terrorist attacks. Hamas would've known many civilians would die during the retaliation. Sadly, they probably share a similar mindset to the Taliban in terms of being happy to sacrifice the populations human rights in the name of ideology.

Again you can’t murder kids and say someone else made you do it. That is psychotic.

Just like on October 7th, and yet we have all these pro-Palestinians justifying it by saying it didn't start then

Well, no, because Britain has evolved since then. Islamic militant groups certainly have not.

Neither have militant illegal settlers.
Please acknowledge there is evil intent on both sides”sides”.

I am pro no group, @PollyPaintsFlowers .

Religiously, I’m atheist. I sat and watched in horror at the horrific reports of 7th October. As a mother of two young people my empathy was instant. I have that same empathy for the young people suffering equally horrific acts in Gaza today.

At some point, for the future, the past has to be put behind.

Indeed. But Hamas knew this would happen and they still went ahead and killed loads of Israeli civilians.

Hamas is repellent. As is the Netanyahu Cabinet. Neither care about the people they supposedly represent.

I'm not even sure the non-militant groups have evolved much either tbh. Even here in the UK the majority of British Muslims believe homosexuality should be illegal. It's just a problematic religion IMO.

Exactly. This harping back to 1948 and arguing for a one state solution isn't doing anything for the Palestinian cause. Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib, a Gazan activist who lives in the US, has spoken widely about the actual harm western activists who organise these marches and chooses the messaging actually do to the prospects of long term peace for Palestinians. Again, talking about pro-Palestinians in general.

Israel isn't going anywhere. The best prospect for peace right now is this peace deal. Western and Arabic countries are on board with it, hopefully they can make Hamas see sense.

The war has to end now

Tbh, African Christian Bishops are equally outspoken against homosexuality. As are many catholic leaders. Hardly an exclusive Muslim no-no, is it?

The problem is that we've become so preoccupied with tolerance that we're afraid to challenge atrocities whenever there's a cultural or religious element.

I mean, what other demographic has in the past decade sexually assaulted 1200 women in one night in a western country? These types of incidents are common in the middle east so it's not just a freak occurrence.

If the Israeli government cares as little for their citizens as Hamas does for Gazans, why did they agree to release over two thousand Palestinian prisoners in exchange for less than two hundred Israeli hostages?

I imagine Dresden didn't look too great after ww2...

It’s almost as if we should never accept it being done again……

Because Netanyahu was under enormous scrutiny. It’s what the hostage families - rightly - demanded.

So Christianity is interchangeable, depending on location?

Ultimately, yes.

Some churches now support gay marriage in the UK and many that don't will still bless same sex couples.

Putting religion aside, Africa is in general not a great place to be gay.

What happened in Lebanon shows just how well land sharing doesn't work when there is active Muslim military presence. This war will only truly end when one side or the other is totally wiped out.

Edited

I'm not familiar with Lebanon's history or politics, so I'm not sure what you mean there, sorry.

There would be no need for any military presence if everyone just shared the land and got along and didn't attack people whose ways are different from theirs.

Why can't Israel be a place where Jewish people and Muslims and Christians all live? Why can't the country belong to them all? I don't understand why the Israelis penned the Palestinians into one small piece of it.

Horsie · 01/10/2025 22:30

PollyPaintsFlowers · 01/10/2025 17:56

Maybe being oppressed, extorted, massacred, raped and enslaved by Palestinians under dhimmitude for hundreds of years during the Ottoman Empire and then the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem teaming up with Hitler, and the Palestinians declaring they'd destroy Israel and starting a war as soon as it was re-established may have influenced their feelings towards Palestinians

See, this is it. Various factions cannot let go of the past, continuing on hundreds of years of wrongs, all because of things that people who are long-dead did, and they spill blood today in the name of those old wrongs and in the battle for territory. It's a similar story with the history of Ireland/Northern Ireland.

Of course, everyone could decide to forget about the past and decide to share the land. But I'm coming to realise that that's never going to happen because human beings just love to fight. That's what it comes down to. We are the third chimpanzees (see Jared Steel) and boy, does it show. Chimps are the most violent and aggressive primate, known for mutilation, and have been known to organise raids and use weapons. Sound familiar?

Peace will never happen, because human beings are so violent. We could easily choose peace, if we wanted to. Easily.

HellsBalls · 02/10/2025 06:36

@Horsie ”Why can't Israel be a place where Jewish people and Muslims and Christians all live?"
It is.
”Why can't the country belong to them all?”
It does.
”I don't understand why the Israelis penned the Palestinians into one small piece of it.”
Because they keep murdering Jews.

That’s the thing though - why did Netanyahu do what the families of the hostages demanded? Can Gazans demand anything of their government?
Would Hamas bow to their pressure?
Does Hamas do anything at all to protect the people in Gaza?
I really don’t think it’s fair to say that neither leadership cares about their people.
