Hello everyone,

Can anyone recommand some good books about the situation in Gaza ?
Preferably first-hand accounts - that's always more reliable and specific than second-hand testimonies.
Are there even such books ? As people there probably are more worried about survival than literature right now.
I had a look on amazon and found a few but not sure where to start or which to start with, so I'm keen on any recommandations.

Apologies if there was already a thread, I didn't see it if so.

Son of Hamas is informative and gives a factual account of growing up being taught hatred. He is amazingly brave. Read his words.

"The shocking true story of a Hamas insider who rejected his violent destiny - and is now risking everything to expose closely guarded secrets and show the world a way to peace.

Since he was a small boy, Mosab Hassan Yousef has had an inside view of the deadly terrorist group Hamas. The oldest son and heir apparent of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas and its most popular leader, young Mosab assisted his father for years in his political activities while being groomed to follow in his footsteps. But everything changed when Mosab embraced the teachings of another famous Middle East leader instead. What he learned changed his life and could alter the course of his country's future - forever.

In Son of Hamas, Mosab reveals new information about the world's most dangerous terrorist organization and unveils the truth about his own secret role, his agonizing separation from family and homeland, his dangerous choices, and his belief that the mandate to love your enemies is the only way to peace in the Middle East."

‘The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine’ by Ilan Pappe gives a good background with photos of people being forcibly displaced during the Nakba when half the population (approximately 800k people) were displaced.

He has written another one specific to Gaza that I have heard is really informative but have yet to read:
‘The Biggest Prison on Earth’ by Ilan Pappe

I think first hand accounts will take a while to be published in books. But, I found this book very interesting: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Everyone-Will-Have-Always-Against/dp/183726418X

Not a book..but if you have iPlayer I would recommend 'the fifty years war'. First person accounts from all sides up until 1998.
I would also recommend Simon Reeves recent travel documentaries in the middle east and beyond to give wider perspective.

If you want to know about Gaza, the real life people who live there and their culture, try Daybreak in Gaza.:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/We-Are-Not-Numbers-Voices/dp/1529155177
we are not numbers gives a much needed voice to the youth of Gaza born under occupation and blockade. The collection of accounts spans over 10 years from 2014.
highly recommend

You don't think anyone can understand Gaza without understanding the twisted mind of a mass murderer?

Netenyahu's biography is fairly light on Gaza.

I wouldn't know, I havent read it. But since you're pretending you dont know, I was referring to Yahya Sinwar, the murdering terrorist cunt whose praises you're singing and whose book you're promoting.

If only they hadn't, a lot of lives would've been saved

soulofmysoul · 29/09/2025 06:19

My son read the book called ‘The eyes of Gaza’ by the journalist Plestia Alaqad, he said it was very moving. I haven’t had a chance to read it myself yet. If you want real life accounts then I suggest watch the interviews of the medics who have been out there, you will find many and their harrowing stories will no doubt leave you in tears. It is horrific what is being allowed to take place.

So not a word of criticism of the rabid antisemite and terrorist leader who masterminded 7 October and was unwavering in his commitment to terrorism.

PurpleChrayn · 29/09/2025 08:55

”Israel” by Martin Gilbert gives you a lot of background as to why a Jewish state was necessary, and puts to bed a lot of the misconceptions about it being a settler colonialist project.

I would avoid the likes of Pappé. His analysis is flawed.

'but with the unwavering commitment that leads him to make his very last act throwing a stick at a drone'

Yes such commitment! Confused. Or, another way to put it would be futile which sums up hamas' launching a war in the first place.
