UN blacklists Hamas terrorists after verifying sexual violence in Oct. 7 massacre

Article in Ynet news & other sources reporting that the United Nations has formally acknowledged that Hamas terrorists committed — and continue to commit — some of the most brutal sexual crimes on record, including rape, gang rape, genital mutilation and sexual abuse in captivity.

After UN Secretary-General António Guterres resisted adding the terror group to the “blacklist” last year, and following extensive efforts by Israel’s Foreign Ministry, the UN is expected on August 14 to distribute the Secretary-General’s annual report to all members of the General Assembly.

The report details the “blacklist” of groups committing sexual crimes in armed conflicts — and, for the first time, it includes Hamas.

The most shocking thing is that it has taken nearly 2 years for the UN to do this.

Well at least they got there in the end. The level of sexual sadism was horrific.

PurpleChrayn · 14/08/2025 22:31

Only now?

Wow.

Twiglets1 · 14/08/2025 22:41

Yes ... I would like to see a legal case bought against the UN regarding why it took them this long to acknowledge the sexual violence used as a weapon of war against Israelis citizens on October 7th 2023.

I've made it well known I don't trust them. It's almost as though Israel could wait for nearly two years before the UN got round to seeing if they were also victims in the conflict.

Yup ... they have been so vocal in their criticism of Israel but strangely reserved when it came to criticising Hamas.

They've done it now at least - probably felt more pressure after the Dinah Project was published.

Hamas won't be pleased; they're so used to controlling the narrative.

Twiglets1 · 14/08/2025 22:55

For anyone who doesn't know about the Dinah project:

Hamas used sexual violence as "part of a deliberate genocidal strategy" during the 7 October 2023 attack on Israel, an all-women group of Israeli legal and gender experts allege in a new report calling for justice.

The Dinah Project says the report is based on a review of evidence including first-hand testimony from a survivor of an attempted rape and 15 former hostages held in Gaza, as well as accounts from witnesses to sexual assaults.

It lays out what the group describes as "a legal blueprint for prosecuting these crimes, even when direct attribution to individual perpetrators is impossible".

Hamas has denied its forces committed sexual violence against women or mistreated female hostages.

However, a UN mission concluded in March 2024 that there were "reasonable grounds" to believe that conflict-related sexual violence occurred during the 7 October attack in multiple locations, including rape and gang rape, and that there was "convincing information" that hostages had been subjected to sexual violence, including rape and sexualised torture.

And before they were assassinated by Israel, three top Hamas leaders were also accused by the International Criminal Court's prosecutor of the crimes against humanity of rape and other forms of sexual violence, in addition to murder, extermination and torture.

They will be disappointed in the UN which may not bode so well for UN workers in Gaza.

I was just thinking that. That's the UN workers in Gaza but worse for those working for Hamas. Oops, did I just say that out loud!

Co-author of Dinah Project to ‘Post’:‘ Blacklisting Hamas is 'historic justice’ for Oct. 7 victims

The blacklisting of Hamas by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in the Thursday report on conflict-related sexual violence on October 7 is a historic statement, worthy of its own merit, and has the potential to bring justice one step closer for the victims, Prof. Ruth Halperin-Kaddari, who co-authored the report with the all-female team at The Dinah Project, told The Jerusalem Post in an interview on Thursday.

The report, released last month, called to use all of the evidentiary tools at the justice system’s disposal to reach indictments - including other evidence, which are just as strong and acceptable in criminal law, like eyewitness testimonies and those of first-responders.

This type of evidence does have legal precedent use, and is, per the report, the most appropriate framework through which to bring about justice, given the chaotic and widespread nature of the October 7 massacre attack. The full report can be read at thedinahproject.org.

Makes a refreshing change to see Israel have some respite. You could almost forget there are two sides in this wsr.

GladioliGreen · 14/08/2025 23:08

I read about this. I'm glad that they have added Hamas. Seems like they are they are threatening to add Israel to the list too for their widespread sexual abuse of Palestinians. Things do move slowly but that might work in everyone's favour if Israel follows the steps laid out for them by the UN, they don't get added to another blacklist and Palestinians get to be safer.

Well I'm glad you're glad @GladioliGreen because I've never seen you criticising Hamas for the sexual violence they used as a weapon on 7/10 but its being talked about much more now so I guess everyone will be saying they are glad Hamas have been added to the list.

All the people who said - why keep going on about 7/10 & mocked "but Hamas" - I hope they understand now that they were telling people to shut up about sexual violence as well as torture & murder.

You spoke slightly too soon there but still ... yes it nice that for once it's the Hamas terrorists getting some bad press.

I've never done that. I would never deny sexual violence or torture. Would you?

I didn’t say you had denied it I said I’ve never seen you criticising Hamas for sexual violence but it’s good that you are glad now to see them on the list.

Israel aren’t on the list but if they get added in future we can talk then about me being glad they are on the list. At least I’ve never tried to silence people with my own version of “but Hamas” … like one side is almost irrelevant to the debate.

Not saying you are part of the “but Hamas” brigade necessarily but it had been a recurring comment from those who prefer to focus solely on Israel.

That's not what I asked but OK.

I'd like to think this would cause the rape deniers on here to think again but I doubt it.

No chance. If this were on the AIBU board, it would have plenty of support. On this echo chamber of a board, they won't come flocking, unless it's to pile on Israel. I'm reminded of school, when one bully would start the sneering and one by one, others would join in. Female solidarity, when discussing and having empathy for rape, goes out the window in this current case.

When posts start off in AIBU which they sometimes do, the polls show more mixed opinions with a split that is almost 50/50 (slightly more expressing negative views towards Israel). But then they get moved to the CITME board and suddenly it looks like there is only tiny support for Israel again.

Where are all the usual people wringing their hands over violence? Apparently they have little interest in this sexual violence committed against women because it is Hamas who has done the crimes not Israel.

Its not about scoring points. There is nothing good about it. Its sickening it happened on the first place. Bunch of animals. How oh how can anyone feel so entitled to treat other humans, totally innocent people who have nothing to do with the cause, like garbage they are entitled to do what they want with. Victory would be for all such individual, whatever the cause they are fighting for to be executed.
