Qatari airspace closed

I have friends in Qatar who received shelter in place notices from the US embassy earlier, then repeated by the UK Foreign Office. Schools are shut tomorrow and they’ve just closed the airspace. Pretty worried now.

I was thinking this - to minimise casualties because Iran don’t want to/ not in a position to escalate with American casualties

its a combination of messages - acceptance Iran had attempted to bomb U.S. bases, wasn’t anything to really trouble the U.S., thank you for warning us, and lastly - the most promising - a message to Israel to stop bombing its neighbours and turn to diplomacy:

@HellsBalls I sincerely hope you’re right. I think logically you are 100% right. But then we are dealing with deranged narcissist males here, and that gives me a bit of pause.

Plus, we do not know what Iran has done with the nuclear material. Another strategic possibility is retreat, re-group, cut the nuclear inspectors out of the picture, and get busy enriching your uranium for the longer view.

It was obvious what was going on, not that I’m an ex-RAF intelligence officer. I’m just a long in the tooth granny who’s lived in this part of the world for almost 50 years and has a very good feel for the place.

And your hunch proved to be correct.

The Iran regime can do a bit of face-saving by having attacked an American military base (not really). It has been a way for them to exit the war & Qatar helped broker the deal apparently.

It looks like a 12 hour ceasefire will lead to a permanent ceasefire and the 12 day war is (hopefully!) over.

Truce apparently came into effect at 5am UK time.

Well that went well.

Iran’s semi official news agency SNN has reported that Iran fired their last missiles before the ceasefire came into effect.

Reported by the BBC shortly after 7am this morning, the Israeli government says it has agreed to Donald Trump's ceasefire proposal.

In a statement, it says: "Israel will respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire."
