It's Israel's aim to eliminate Hamas.
What is the Israeli definition of the word eliminate ?
How will they know when they've achieved it ?

When all the Palestinians have been killed I imagine 😢

mids2019 · 01/06/2025 21:30

When no more rockets are fired at Israel?

SharonEllis · 01/06/2025 21:31

How would we lnow? Im not privy to Israeli government discussions, are you?

Martymcfly24 · 01/06/2025 21:35

When all the Palestinians are living somewhere else and there is a nice casino in the Gaza Riviera.

@SharonEllis
Of course I'm not privy to Israeli Government discussions, if I were, I wouldn't come on Mumsnet and ask those questions, cos I'd already know the answers to them.

Or possibly you think I am privy to government discussions and I'm coming on here just to canvas opinion as to Israeli policy ?

.......so that they can come up with one.

Many people here call for the elimination of Hamas, what do they mean by that ?

Yes a pretty pointless contribution. Everything on these threads is opinion and speculation, weird that certain topics just enlisit deflection or maybe some posters aren't willing to face the reality of what they support.

In my opinion Israel won't know when they've eliminated Hamas and have no idea how to, but will keep going regardless because every Palestinian is a potential terrorist don't you know

When was the last time a rocket was fired into Israel from Gaza?
I have read it’s not been for some time - beginning of April? About 2 months ago?

HoppingPavlova · 02/06/2025 03:50

Guessing that would be when both Hamas and all Hamas supporters in the joint territory are eliminated. Hamas have only been as successful as they have been due to support of the people, without that they would not be in the position they are in. That goes for absolutely every terrorist organisation, it’s not specific to Hamas, without supporters they don’t exist.

However Israel have said their intent is to illuminate Hamas
Not Hamas supporters who would be civilians

So is it Hamas and Civilians then because that’s not what they’ve been declaring to justify their actions

Garlicpressups · 02/06/2025 08:49

I would think that the IDF have intelligence that tells them where the ringleaders of Hamas are, and are working to eliminate them.

NotABottie · 02/06/2025 09:02

Israel know exactly who the existing Hamas operatives were before Oct 7th and will have identified new recruits via tech like facial recognition. They will also be targeting the ‘innocent civilians’ who participated in Oct 7th.

I think people forget this is not a normal war with normal rules of engagement. The scum terrorists Israel is dealing with are not in designated non civilian areas to fight it out, and clearly identifiable as groups of soldiers, they are all over the place like rats literally popping up from sewers underground in the streets, hospitals, mosques, refugee camps etc, among throngs of people.

Shame they haven’t surrendered or come out of hiding from their tunnels/from behind civilians as this war would have been over a lot quicker.

I see this as a secondary factor to freeing the remaining hostages/bodies of hostages though.

No other country would have tolerated 58 hostages remaining out of 251 almost two years after an invasion,

Not a single Gazan has taken up Netanyahu’s offer from last year of $5 million and safe passage out of Gaza as to their location that we are aware of to date.

Stirabout · 02/06/2025 09:23

How many are left?
Do we know?

Trust Netanyahu...

Laughable: talk about a deal with the devil. ( Actually I would trust them more)

FrippEnos · 02/06/2025 10:55

IMHO what Israel is doing is the opposite of destroying Hamas.
By the deliberate genocide of a group of people they are just creating more "terrorists".

PrettyParrot · 02/06/2025 10:57

Agree, by their actions Israel have solidified hatred rather than dissolving it. The Hamas attack was terrible, and Israel's response has been worse.

But you believe Hamas………….

That upstanding organisation who just HAD to commit barbarism straight out of medieval times and take hundreds of civilians hostage including a baby and toddler, who they strangled with their bare hands while in captivity, then paraded their coffins as ‘prisoners of war’, to start a war to ‘free’ their people which caused the deaths of thousands of their people who they don’t actually care about or have any responsibility for.

It’s not like Gazans don’t have access to smart phones and WIFI, to video interactions with the IDF and broadcast them to the world is it?

Dp you seriously think Netanyahu could have reneged on his offer with the world watching?

mouthpipette · 02/06/2025 11:27

Well, no one yet has described clearly what they see as elimination. It's a word frequently used, yet no one seems able to define it.

How far do you have to go to achieve "elimination" ?

Would the person who engaged in Oct 7 have to be eliminated ?
Would the person who ran errands and carried messages for the terrorists have to be "eliminated" .
Would a person who had allowed the terrorists to use their house have to be eliminated?
Would the person who owned the apartment next door also have to be eliminated if it would facilitate certain elimination of their neighbour ?

Nobody seems to have any idea as to the answers to these and so this "goal" of eliminating Hamas is a ridiculous one, and one that is probably unachievable without mass, indiscriminate killings.

Indeedy, doody, it was. Well spotted.

And you know what, I was audacious enough to follow it up with a second question.

Hamas will never be eliminated, there will always be a son, a nephew.. and even if in the future they go by a different name, the bloodthirsty hate will always be there.

I agree, the hate will continue until there is negotiation and then a settlement based on both Israelis and the Palestinians having internationally recognised states.

Hang on a minute why does my comment which is negative about a man who is currently undergoing a trial for fraud, is facing into war crimes trials in any way indicate my support for Hamas.

How are the two linked?
Where did I say I believe Hamas?
It is possible not to be believe both of them.
To just be on the side of civilians.

Once again the narrative that criticism of Netanyahu, his government and the actions of the IDF is pro Hamas.
Disgusting

And yes I do believe he would have reneged on it because the world are watching but they don't care, they didn't care when he bombed refugee tents, murdered medics or created a man made famine.

Completely agree with this.

The current policy is the definition of insanity " doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"

Israel cannot bomb and starve an ideology, they have tried and it doesn't work. Until Palestine is an independent state the cycle will continue..
