Israel has declared UNRWA a terrorist organisation

Israel has banned the UN Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA from operating in the country - a move which could hamper its work in Gaza.

UNRWA's chief Philippe Lazzarini has warned the ban "will only deepen the suffering of Palestinians, especially in Gaza".

The new laws passed in the Knesset on Monday banned the agency from having any ties to Israeli officials and stripped its staff of their legal immunities.

The Israeli parliament also declared the group a terror organisation.

Seems like the final phase of the genocide is being forced through. If the UN are hampered there's no way of substantially delivering essential aid. If the organisation is accused of being terrorist then there's no protection against the IDF.

Until Israel recognizes the sacrifices made by the Palestinians in order for it to exist there probably isn't any equitable and fair solution.

This in a nutshell.

HarkALark · 30/10/2024 08:28

It's enlightening, the amount of people trying to defend the massacre of an entire people, with false equivalences like textbook content. Meanwhile babies are left to starve and rot in incubators. Children shot in the streets.

"They should've thought of that before October 7th!" Yes, what happened that day was vile. What has happened since isn't a proportionate response. It's a form of biblical vengeance, nothing more nor less than that.

If this were another country there would be at the very least, condemnation from other nations. But here in the UK the government is defending genocide as a numbers game.

Grandmasswagbag · 30/10/2024 08:43

I shouldn't be but I'm honestly staggered by this. Israel is indeed a rogue state run by absolute psychos, and the rest of the world watches on. UK, US, Germany, rest of Europe say 'naughty naughty' and then turn their backs. Absolute shame. I'm sickened by our governments weakness. And to think we are providing the weapons to carry out this genocide.

PeasfullPerson · 30/10/2024 09:44

@Grandmasswagbag Perhaps if we hadn’t had our own shameful, short sighted and nationalistic Brexit moment, then our government wouldn’t be in such a weak position.

TomeTome · 30/10/2024 10:49

I agree @Grandmasswagbag who could imagine a country embracing the worst and most base behaviour in all of us? I’m heartbroken and disappointed to see things come to this. Who will be brave enough to say stop? There must be many many Israelis who find this slaughter totally unacceptable and watch with the same horror the rest of the world feels.

There absolutely are. I heard a long interview with a mother whose son (in the IDF) who was murdered on Oct 7th. She and her family have now left Israel and were horrified by the escalation of violence. They don't support the government and hadn't had so much as a message from them. Her son sacrificed his life in service to them!

Perhaps you’re not aware of the exodus of Jews from Arab lands? Approximately 900,000 Jews migrated, fled, or were expelled from Muslim-majority countries throughout Africa and Asia, approximately 70% of whom settled in Israel?

Exsqueeze me? You were claiming that Israel was 'colonized' by European Jews, but when I point out the numbers of Jews from Arab countries that immigrated to Israel after being kicked out of their homes, you call that colonization too?

Whatever.

You're absolutely right, my bad, I rewrote it a couple of times before I posted.

Kill as many Palestinians as you like.

It said that the Damaris revealed to the prime minister that Emily had been held for a time in facilities belonging to the main UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa, and that she had been denied medical treatment.
They called on Mr Starmer to put "maximum pressure" on Hamas and Unrwa to allow the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to visit the hostages still being held in Gaza, the statement added.
