I posted this on another thread, but it's worth a thread of its own in CITME.

Fabulous work by this group. I am in total awe of them.

Jews risking their life and limb to support Palestinian shepherds in their struggle to fend off settler terrorism.

This is how it should be. People helping each other and showing humanity instead of governments causing wars. People are not born hating it's something that's taught.

Oh great, another non-Jewish person starting a thread with "Jews" in the title.

Any chance you could change the title to "Jewish" OP. I can't even begin to tell you how triggering it is for many of us, especially those of us who grew up being on the receiving end of racist attacks. We get to use it, you don't.

Criticise Israel all you want, but all these threads highlighting 'good Jews' (not like those horrible ones) have such a sinister undertone.

I’m not Jewish but hearing people using the term Jews always made me uncomfortable.
Thank you for clarifying that it isn’t acceptable.

Auvergne63 · 04/07/2024 08:28

So in short, showing admiration for what some Israeli citizens are doing to help Palestinians (at great risk to themselves) is sinister?
You really couldn't make it up.

nicetuchus · 04/07/2024 08:50

It's always the ones you least expect to cherrypick what you've said and entirely miss the point.

Many of these Jews are of Palestinian origin. Need to remember that being Jewish Israeli isn’t mututally exclusive with being Palestinian. A lot of Jewish Palestinians converted to Islam in protest to the Zionist State.

Wait... what?!!

There are a very small number of Jewish Israelis who have converted to Islam or Palestinian Israelis who converted to Judaism (including the singer Nasrin Kadri) - usually connected to marriage - but these are a tiny minority, and they don't form a significant part of any peace activities. Jewish Israeli peace activists are simply Jewish Israelis who think that this is the right thing to do.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

It's unreal what some folk will claim in order to close down a discussion.

There are many stories of Israeli Jews who help/helped Palenstinians. In fact, lots of them lived very close to the Gaza border and were first to be killed or kidnapped on October 7th.

Yes this. In one case a woman did a joint photographic exhibit with a Gazan man and they became friends, or so she thought. On 7 October he phoned her to try to find out where she was so he could come and harm her. Luckily she realised and survived.

Vivian Silver was a lifelong peace activist and campaigner who helped Gazans on a weekly basis and lived on a kibbutz near the border. She was cruelly murdered in the 7 October attacks.

I feel that, what is implied, is that no Palestinians deserve to be helped because of what happened on 07/10.

@mnhq doesn’t work. You’ve to report your own thread and ask for the title to get changed. I did report it and asked for it but they’ve not done it

Good Jewish people and bad Jewish people thread .

Bery transparent especially as Jews was used in the title .

Imagine opening a thread called Muslims helping Jews?

Scirocco · 04/07/2024 13:13

What would be wrong with starting a thread about Muslims helping Jewish people, Israeli people or any group of people?

anotherlevel · 04/07/2024 13:26

@keenforhelp I'm not offended to be called Muslim. Why would I be? And why would it be offensive to say they're helping Jewish people and to start a thread about it?

Edited

Not all Palestinians are Muslim and not all Israelis are Jewish .

This conflict is not Muslims V Jewish people.

This conflict is not Muslims V Jewish people.

The conflict is those that want to live peacefully next to their neighbours vs those that don’t. (From Palestine and israel you can find examples of both and this thread is about those that want to live peacefully and trying to make their neighbours lives easier)

Scirocco · 04/07/2024 16:40

If someone were to start a thread about an organisation doing good work and helping people in need, but I felt that the organisation had inaccurately been described as being a Muslim group rather than something else, I'd probably be able to find a way to point that out that didn't involve attacking the OP.

It looks like this group has been working hard to protect vulnerable people from aggressors and to combat oppression. I would have thought those were generally considered good things for people to do...

AhNowTed · 04/07/2024 19:36

This account by one of the Israeli volunteers has really struck a chord with me.

Imagine the horror and grotesque injustice of watching masked settlers armed with clubs show up, accompanied by the army and police.
