Boycotting Israeli products/services

I’m trying my best to support the boycott. For those doing the same - what products/services are you using instead?

The hardest one for me has been giving up on going to Disney Paris next year. I had planned it as a joint birthday present, kids will be the perfect age. But I can’t stand in Disney with my kids knowing they support a regime killing kids.

Any good alternatives to Disney, or any other brand on the list?

No-one should be buying carrots from thousands of miles away anyway, regardless of politics.

@keenforhelp so that statement was back in December. The feelings of many have changed very much since then, even those of the US, their biggest ally, who have now begun to withhold weapons. Intel halting a massive expansion like that speaks volumes.

Congress just approved this.

Key Democrats approve major arms sale to Israel, including F-15s

Under pressure from the Biden administration, Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (D-N.Y.) approved the multibillion-dollar sale despite concerns about the Gaza death toll.

I can't help but think Hamas, especially the members watching what is happening in Gaza from afar, must be rubbing their hands together in glee with everyone's hatred of Isreal.

For years Hama have brutally ruled over the people of Gaza, stolen their aid, stolen their water pipes to make bombs, treated their women and anyone who is gay appalingly, killed anyone who disagrees with their dictatorship and openly called for genocide with the death of all Jews. There was a video circulating a few months ago of an elderly woman on the street in Gaza talking about how Hamas were taking all their things and the fear in everyone around hers faces because they know what will happen to them if they are overheard.

Absolutely protest and boycott things from Israel if that's what you feel is the right thing to do, but please don't virtue signal to others when the majority of people doing it didn't care less about the plight of the Palestinian people before it became a popular thing after October 7th.

I have a friend who lived in Gaza city working for the UN and has never mentioned any of those things about Hamas. I’m not saying you are incorrect but what is your source?

You have a friend in Gaza who has never mentioned that pre war that well over 50% of the population of Gaza were reliant on aid and living in terrible poverty?
Which of the comments in my previous post about Hamas would you like sources for?

Do a Google search as to when apartheid ended in SA. 🤔

Obviously I know this. I was referring to the level of discussion it provoked, across the whole history of MN, in my google searches of different topics and their traffic on MN

This is one of the most frustrating aspects of this ‘debate’ (in general, not on this thread in particular) - the lack of acknowledgement of the terrible suffering inflicted on people in Gaza by Hamas. The lack of acknowledgment of their ideology and its consequences.

Billions in aid has gone where?

What efforts has Hamas made to seek peace with Israel?

What efforts has Hamas made to protect its people during the current war?

I understand the human impulse to simplify conflicts and try to find a clear moral stance to take. But it’s absolutely idiotic to focus solely on Israel’s part in the conflict without contextualising it - and thoroughly and intelligently, not with thought-stopping slogans.

We could even ask ourselves where we’d prefer to live, Gaza or Israel? Lots of people would say ‘well nobody would want to be in Gaza, because Israel oppresses the people there.’ So maybe make a comparison between Israel and other countries in the Middle East. As a woman, where would you prefer to live? If you’re a Muslim, perhaps you might prefer to live somewhere other than Israel (although obviously, Muslims do live in Israel). Would you like to live in Iran? And if not, why not?

Well if SA apartheid was still ongoing- it would generate more interest? The boycott may have helped end it? Like it might in occupied territories?

Why do the Palestinian victims need to always call for peace?

Did you not hear of the great match of return. This was Hamas calling for a last peaceful march before the tipping point. 36,000 Palestinians were injured and many killed. This was a peaceful protest.

The Palestinians are not going to be calling for peace now after 80 years of brutal treatment and torture.

Read up about how any peace activists in Gaza get treated by Israel. The Israel government don't want their citizens to know that Gazans want peace. They would rather kill them off. The Israeli government funded Hamas for a reason. They want any excuse to eradicate an entire people.

The Gazans have been reliant on aid due to the Israeli air, sea and ground blockade of Gaza that predates Hamas taking power in Gaza and was then indefinitely tightened and extended once Hamas was in power by Israel.

You have got to be joking. Surely you are joking? Everyone with a passing knowlege of the world knows these things about Hamas.

A lot of the things listed are not really true though.

Most of Hamas weapons/rockets are repurposed unexploded bombs that Israel dropped on the strip- even before the war, it’s how they stockpiled so many rockets. Israel would go over and bomb every few weeks. They also get some weapons smuggled in from Iran- usually small arms though not rockets.

The one more than a decade old article of a supposed Hamas commander bragging about using water pipes from the abandoned Jewish settlements dismantled in 2005 was dismissed as Hamas lying by weapons experts who know you can’t use a water pipe to build a rocket unless you want it to explode in your face when you try and launch it.

The maltreatment of woman touted to be akin to ISIL or Taliban is also not true when you look at the number of Gazan women completing university degrees and working in highly educated professions- like the number of female doctors and lawyers.

Why not compare to other democracies? Is Iran your yardstick to assess good?

How would the life of an Arab differ in another democratic country compared to Israel? As far as I know - there are no taxes or laws that apply differentially to people based on their religion in another democracy.

Oh come on. How do you think all tbose tunnels were built & paid for? Somehow they can get all those building materials & weaponry in but cant manage to adequately support the welfare of tbeir population? Why do pro-Palestinoans infantilise them in this way. Hamas have made political & ideological choices in the way the govern Gaza. Hamas leaders & cronies have siphoned off huge amounts of aid to pay for their priorities & to enrich themselves.
