Could Pro-Palestinian protestors protest in a more effective way

I fully support the right to protest and free speech but I read this article just now and made me wonder if the message could be put across in a more effective way rather than violence making the headlines.

How could the protestors garner more sympathy to their cause as clearly we need a change in operations in Gaza to bring about the end of Hamas whilst protecting civilian life? These sort of headlines and a minority of anti-Semitic attendees on marches are shrouding the message.

Pro-Palestinian activist bites police officer as four arrested

Six police officers were injured during a pro-Palestinian protest outside the Thales defence firm on Linthhouse Road, Govan, Glasgow yesterday morning. Four people were arrested, police said.

I agree, the protesting I support but assaulting the police only damages their own cause and makes it easy to dismiss them write them all off as thugs and public nuisances.

Why would you presume they're all the same though and write them off as thugs? The vast majority of protests pass peacefully.

There are more arrests and violence at Football games. Do we assume all football fans are thugs? Should we ban football?

Yes I know, that’s exactly the point I’m making. People shouldn’t be assuming every protester is a thug because they aren’t, and the ones who are behaving inappropriately are encouraging everyone to be tarred with the same brush!

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator

I have a lot of family in the UAE. You're not really thinking about this properly.

Pretty much everyone in the UAE and Arab countries are in agreement - they are pro Palestinian. It is hard to find a pro Israeli voice in the UAE. So there's not a huge need to protest against your government because by and large everyone is in agreement that Israel is in the wrong here, and it's not like their taxes are funding arms to Israel etc.

There are obviously protests but like you say they don't happen all the time like they do here. People here feel more incensed at the injustices they see from their elected representatives and the fact their taxes are paying for arms to Israel.

What there is though in the UAE, is mass boycotting. Israeli products and products that are associated with Israel. Starbucks for example lost $11billion in market value in two weeks. So there are widespread protests happening, but it's more about money and boycotts rather than marching on the street.
